Hughton has his say!
Hughton has his say!
Well the England game has been and gone, and so has the tug of war between Newcastle and England that looked like it could boil over.

Carroll’s groin has been a major point talking this week after the striker looked like he could miss the opportunity to make his England debut against France last night.

The concerns from the club appeared to be unfounded, and Andy went on to make his debut anyway amid reports of the club contacting the FA via e-mail.

Basically, the rumour suggested that Newcastle had asked the The FA for Carroll to be withdrawn from the squad for fear of aggravating the groin injury that he picked up against Fulham, although with no confirmation on that from the club you could be forgiven for being a tad sceptical and putting it down to yet more press rumour-mongering.

But this time it appears that the press were right, and there was indeed some contact between Newcastle and The FA. (more…)

Andy Carroll in action against France.
Andy Carroll in action against France.
As football matches go, last night was pretty forgettable for England, but you just try telling Andy Carroll that.

After the media frenzy concerning the players’ fitness that dominated the build up to the match, Carroll was finally deemed fit enough to play and made his internatonal debut in front of 86,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Whilst I would imagine that Carroll would have wanted his debut to be a winning affair and would probably have preferred it if England hadn’t have lost 2-1 to France, he can at least hold his head up high knowing that he tried his best, and recieved a standing ovation from the Wembley crowd for his efforts when he was withdrawn from action on 70 minutes.

England were awful last night, and as a result they failed to get any service into Carroll at all. He was left isloated up front on his own against some seasoned international defenders, but he just got on with it and did what he does best. (more…)

Newcastle concerned over Carroll’s fitness.

Carroll: At the heart of a club v country battle.
Carroll: At the heart of a club v country battle.
Newcastle have expressed their concerns to The FA about Andy Carroll making his senior England debut this evening at Wembley.

The club have e-mailed the FA today to voice their fears over the 21-year-old’s fitness. Manager Chris Hughton and co just don’t feel that Andy is fit enough to face France tonight.

Carroll will undergo further tests before a final decision is made, and although Fabio Capello has been full of praise for Andy and appears to be a fan, stating just yesterday that Carroll would start this evening, concerns over the player’s groin injury could very well put a dampener on the Gateshead lads international debut. Naturally Andy will want to play tonight. Representing your country is an honour and Andy will be looking to try and duplicate Alan Shearer’s success at international level I’m sure.

As Newcastle fans we should all be really proud of the lad for getting called up, and it’s been a couple of years since one of ours has earned an England call up. (more…)

This is one reason why the England team really grinds my gears!

Carroll 'touch and go' for debut.
Carroll 'touch and go' for debut.
There are many reason why the England team gets right on my nerves.

The World Cup shambles is one reason. The lack of passion is another, but those aren’t the only reasons why the England national side annoys me.

What we have witnessed over the last few days has been an awful torture for Newcastle fans as we await news on the extent of Andy Carroll’s groin injury. My gut instinct would be to not risk him in a friendly that has no real importance and serves only to make the FA some more money. The FA also annoy me!

I don’t want this article to be misconstrued as a rant against England. I am English myself and like to see the team win, but first and foremost I am a Newcastle United fan, and I don’t want one of our leading lights, who is carrying an inury, being risked in a meaningless friendly when there is no real need for him to play. Happy Andy will stay forever!
Happy Andy will stay forever!
Andy Carroll has made quite a name for himself already this season.

He caught the eye with a fantastic season in The Championship last season, bagging an impressive 19 goals.

However, the Premier League is a different kettle of fish with tougher opposition.

I remember speaking to a lad in pre-season who said Andy would struggle to score more than three goals all season in the Premier League. Well good sir, we are only 13 games in and the lad has managed 7 already, making him joint top goalscorer. The term ‘eat your words’ come to mind!

It seems that Andy’s great form has caught the attention not only of the England manager, Fabio Capello. but also of other top flight teams. (more…)
