Carroll to Spurs? Not even for £20 million!

Carroll is going nowhere.
Carroll is going nowhere.
I see the Sunday papers are reporting en masse that Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch a January bid for Andy Carroll.

There are even reports suggesting that David Bentley and Peter Crouch could be used as makeweights in any potential new deal.

It’s all bollocks of course and is just the latest in a long line of clubs that Carroll has been linked to, including teams that are infinately bigger that Spurs, like Chelsea for example. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have some for all of those dirty journalists out there – Andy Carroll is going nowhere!

You see, there has been no mention of anything about Carroll leaving around these parts, other than what has been written in the newspapers – quite the opposite in fact. I suggest that these journalists get their collective head out of the arse of the bigger clubs, give their tongue a rest, and do some investigating. (more…)

Christmas Carroll and beyond

Carroll commits to The Toon
Carroll commits to The Toon
Andy Carroll has insisted that he’s staying at Newcastle United despite the replacement of Chris Hughton with Alan Pardew as manager.

Carroll was in a buoyant mood yesterday, no doubt helped by the fact that the CPS have dropped the latest assault charge against him due to a lack of evidence.

In an interview with The Chronicle he appeared to confirm his commitment to the club.

I’m just going to go out there and carry on doing what I have been doing. I’ve always worked towards being where I am now, and want to stay here – it’s as simple as that.”

Carroll expressed his appreciation for all that Chris Hughton had done for him – both on and off the pitch – and then turned his focus to the new manager.

He’s gone now, and I just need to keep on working on what he’s taught me, and with the new manager, I’ve got to listen to him,” said Carroll.

He then went on to talk about Saturday’s game against Liverpool:

All the lads stuck together after what’s happened. To play the way we did against Liverpool was great.” (more…)

Pardew – mad as a hatter?

Doh, why did I take this job?
Doh, why did I take this job?
Alan Pardew has had a few things to say about how he intends to approach matters at Newcastle United.

First of all, apparently other managers have been telling him he’s mad to take the job:

I’ve had a lot of texts from managers saying ‘you must be mad going there’. But it’s one of the top five clubs in England. It’s a daunting prospect but something I couldn’t turn down.”

Given that the club is run by clowns and the rate at which we get through managers it’s hard to argue with suggestions that he should be carted off to somewhere where they hand out regular cups of tea and strong medication.

He then goes on to say:

The problem I’m going to have initially is the players.

I need to get my message across quickly and with clarity so as not to get any resentment at a time when they are doing reasonably well.

The battles I need to win are on the pitch. I understood what was going to happen if I took the job.” (more…)

Has Andy Carroll surpassed your expectations?

Carroll: A revelation?
Carroll: A revelation?
I think most of us will agree that Andy Carroll has been excellent so far this season.

Not only has his goalscoring been a massive help to Newcastle this term, but his all round work rate has also helped the cause on a number of occasions.

The improvement that Carroll has shown since last Christmas has been remarkable. Bear in mind that when we headed to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day last season, Carroll had only scored four goals in total and had looked a bit ropey at times. He ended up with 19 goals for the season, and he hasn’t stopped scoring since, including nine Premier League goals so far this term.

His performances have also warranted international recognition, and he made his full England debut against France a couple of weeks back. England were outplayed and outclassed, but the effort Carroll put in wasn’t lost on the fans and he wandered off the pitch at Wembley on 72 minutes to a standing ovation. (more…)

Is Andy Carroll leaving? And does it matter?

Arsenal bound?
Arsenal bound?
Is he? Or isn’t he?

I have not written for quite a while on this ‘blog, so this post is just a gentle reintroduction from me without much substance, but I feel I can get away with it just this once to ease myself back into things.

It gets worse because I’m about to do some dreaded hearsay Daily Mail style reporting.

I had reason to hire a ‘Man With A Van’ recently to help clear out a house after a bereavement. This ‘Man With A Van’ happened to be a Geordie and came accompanied by a son at no extra charge. I’m not entirely sure of the son’s purpose in the whole house clearing thing I had to do as he seemed reluctant to lift anything and merely ate all my biscuits. However, this son apparently dates a girl who worked in the press office at SJP and we got onto the subject of whether or not Andy Carroll is for sale because, obviously, there has been much speculation about that recently. According to my ‘source’ (hey, I feel like a real reporter now!) Andy Carroll is for sale, but so is everyone else at Newcastle United.

Now of course, I am not silly enough to put any faith in what is essentially gossip, particularly as it came from someone who ate all my biscuits. I am however getting to a point, the point being: Does it matter anyway? (more…)
