Official statement alert.Newcastle have asked the FA to punish Nigel de Jong for the challenge that resulted in Hatem Ben Arfa sustaining a broken Fibia and Tibula at the weekend.
It is understood that the club are far from happy over the tackle and feel it was ‘unnecessary and used excessive force’.
They are also writing a letter of complaint to the appropriate body regarding the perfomance of Martin Atkinson in the match against Manchester City.
In a statement released on the nufc.co.uk, the official website, the club had this to say;
“Newcastle United FC have today written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association in relation to the tackle by Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong on Hatem Ben Arfa in Sunday’s Premier League fixture, which resulted in Ben Arfa sustaining a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg.”
“The club has asked the FA for the appropriate action to be taken against De Jong for the tackle which in the club’s opinion was unnecessary and used excessive force.”(more…)
Highlights, or perhaps that should be “lowlights” of today’s travesty of justice for Newcastle United against Manchester City at Eastlands.
The match highlights includes Nigel de Jong’s horrific, leg breaking challenge on Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa.
Also included are videos of post match fuming from Chris Hughton, and finally, Manchester City assistant manager, Brian Kidd, expressing delight at “ugly” win.
Chris Hughton - Faces some tough choices.Is anyone still feeling a little deflated after the weekend? I know that I am still smarting from the home defeat against Stoke, and I am sure others are aswell.
There were a lot of things that just didn’t work at the weekend, and now the manager has to earn his money and adress those issues that were plain to see for everyone against Stoke.
In true Newcastle style, what started off to be a fantastic week with away wins at Everton and Chelsea was followed by the inevitable kick in the bollocks by losing at home to Stoke. As I said in my match report, I can handle us losing, but what I can’t handle is us not giving it a real go and trying to take the game to the opposition, particularly at home.
The fact is that Stoke did a job on us. They stopped us playing and only let us play where they wanted us to play. For all the first-half possesion we had we created pretty much the sum of nothing and we were lucky to benefit from Robert Huth making an erratic and needless challenge to concede a penalty and hand us the lead. A series of five videos from yesterday’s most pleasant 0-1 away victory over the Evertonians, including a blistering debut goal from new boy, Hatem Ben Arfa. Two are highlights of the match and three are post match interviews with Chris Hughton, Kevin Nolan and David Moyes respectively. (more…)
Hughton needs to show some balls!Whilst some fans may still be reeling from the weekend loss at home to Blackpool, the reality is that it has now gone and there is absolutely zip that can be done about it.
Another reality is that as much as the stats suggest that we pretty much dominated the game and were unlucky to not get something, they don’t change the fact that we didn’t get anything out of a home game against a relegation rival.
That last part is the cause of most of the depressed feeling that is hanging around at the moment, in my opinion anyway. The loss on Saturday ruined my prediction coupon. I, and many others probably, had it down as a home win, but I always had the feeling that it would be a lot closer than a fair few were predicting. That loss now means we have to pick up some extra points on the road if we are to avoide getting sucked into the early season depression cycle of being near the bottom of the league. (more…)
