Expect more Newcastle signings soon!

One in, with more to follow?
One in, with more to follow?
For weeks and weeks now the talk has been over transfers, and how Newcastle would need to add to their squad if they are to stave off relegation.

And for weeks and weeks it has looked like nothing has been happening on the transfer front, not even a hint of a free transfer coming through the doors at St James’ Park.

For weeks the rhetoric was the same, Newcastle would be linked with a player, it would be denied, we would be reassured that we will have signings blah blah blah.

It all started to become a bit boring and repetitve in all honesty, but that changed on Monday with the arrival of James Perch from Nottingham Forest, a transfer that actually involved us paying a fee, albeit not a large one. In fairness, the signing of Perch won’t have got fans drooling at the mouth, and that is not being harsh on the lad as he may well turn out to be a bit of shrewd business, but can you honestly say he was high up on your realistic transfer wishlist, because I can’t. Newcastle after Everton’s Dan Gosling?

Dan Gosling - A surprise Newcastle target?
Dan Gosling - A surprise Newcastle target?
A new rumour has started doing the rounds regarding Everton youngster Dan Gosling and a possible switch to Tyneside in the near future, according to Sky Sports.

Now I know what you’re thinking, and it’s probably along the same lines as what i am thinking, and that is that we have no chance of getting a player who is so highly coveted in England and should turn out to be a star in the future.

But did you know he could be available for free? No, neither did I! Apparently it stems from a contract wrangle at Goodison Park where Gosling was verbally offered a new deal, only for the final written offer to not be sent to him by the due date, meaning that he could be available for nothing, depending on the outcome of a Premier League ruling due to be held soon. Can Newcastle fans expect some transfer activity this week?

Kris Boyd: Back in the free transfer frame?
Kris Boyd: Back in the free transfer frame?
The World Cup rolls on in South Africa, but as an Englishman it has now somewhat lost it’s appeal to me after England’s appaling exit at the hands of Germany. At least I can now focus on my first love, and another source of constant disappointment, Newcastle United.

We still await some signs of transfer activity from the club as they prepare for life back in the top flight, and with our much speculated about lack of financial clout, it certainly points towards the fact that we could perhaps be looking at signing some players who are out of contract at their old clubs, which is why this week could reveal some signs of movement in the transfer market for Newcastle.

Generally speaking, the end of June is the traditional time where contracts expire in football. There are exceptions, but as a general rule it sticks. So come Wednesday/Thursday, all of these much speculated about free transfer players can be signed by anyone at anytime. Players like Kris Boyd have been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle, and that rumour resurfaced yesterday, but it won’t be long before we get to see just how much truth there has been behind the rumour all along. Have any players impressed you at this World Cup?

Stephane M'bia - One to watch fro Newcastle.
Stephane M'bia - One to watch fro Newcastle.
Well, I’ve have a good root through most of the papers, and various websites in the search of news about Newcastle United, but as yet my search has been in vail as there is nothing about.

Granted it is still early in the day when I am writing this, and The Sunday Sun are yet to release there next big hitting headline, but everyone seems to be swept away with the World Cup, and in particular what is going on behind the scenes in the England camp.

The latest on the Newcastle transfer front is that we can expect some signings in the next few weeks. But who? Hughton has said that he will be careful to make sure that whoever arrives on Tyneside over the summer will fit in with what we already have. So with that in mind I have been looking at the World Cup and thinking about players that could do a job for Newcastle next season. (more…)

Newcastle weighing up Samaras bid?

Samaras? No thanks!
Samaras? No thanks!
Newcaste are keeping tabs on Celtic’s Greek striker Georgios Samaras, apparently.

Well that is accorcing to The Daily Record, who claim that the bargain striker could be available for a knock down price of £1.5 million. In my opinion that is £1.5 million too much for a striker who was less than impressive when he last graced the Premier League with Manchester City.

Samaras only has 12-months remaining on his contract at Parkhead, and as a consequence of that it looks like the Celtic management are ready to cash in on the player who is currently plying his trade at the World Cup in what looked to be a lacklustre Greece team. I’m not convinced, but perhaps the versatility of the player could be a useful addition? If we were to pursue Samaras then we would be getting a player that can play two positions – centre-forward and winger – although I still think that we already have better players in our team. (more…)
