Adam Johnson in Toon? The Sunday Sun is suggesting that Newcastle could be lining up a sensational loan move for Manchester City’s England international winger, Adam Johnson.
The paper reports that Adam Johnson is unhappy with being out of favour at Eastlands as he bids to nail down his place in the national team. Of course there are question marks about the off-field behaviour of the lad, and he certainly seems to enjoy a drink or two, but there can be no questions over the quality of the lad as a player.
Now before people start getting carried away, let’s not forget that it is the Sunday Sun that is reporting this, and it isn’t really known for it’s accuracy. It gets called the ‘Sunday Stun’ from time to time due to the sensational headlines that get rolled out on a fairly frequent basis as it battles with much larger publications for a share of the Sunday newspaper market. Despite that though, I actually feel that the paper could be onto something, for once. (more…)
It's a Landon thing?Newcastle United are rumoured to be interested in signing USA international Landon Donovan when the January transfer window opens in the new year.
Rumours suggest that Newcastle will be going toe-to-toe with Everton as both clubs try to sign the pacey midfielder on a three-month loan deal, much like Everton did last season.
It is for that reason that I suspect that this is just a rumour, a bit of speculation. Donovan was at Everton for three months last season, and you would have to say that would put Everton at the top of the list for the USA international if a similar deal was offered again. A return to familiar surroundings at a ground where he bacame a bit of a crowd favourite would be on the cards in my view.
Still, with the transfer window only two months away it was perhaps inevitable that the rumour mill would start cranking into life, and along with the rumours comes the return of our old friend, the club source. (more…)
Stay away Cruz!Newcastle are apparently looking to bring out of favour Manchester City striker, Roque Santa Cruz. Why?
People will no doubt disagree with me over this, but I just don’t see the point in bringing him to Tyneside, even if it would only be on a loan basis.
It is my belief that the wages we end up paying for the player could be put to better use elsewhere in the team. We showed yesterday that we have a big striker who can play up front pretty well, then we have Nile Ranger, Shola Ameobi and Leon Best who are of a similar stature. If we are to get another attacker I would like to see any wages spent on a smaller striker in the Peter Lovenkrands mould, or perhaps a more ceative player such as Ben Arfa. (more…)
Signing number four?Newcastle are apparently set to make signing number four of the summer, if various press reports are to believed anyway.
The Daily Mail seems to think that FC Twente midfielder Cheick Tiote was in Newcastle last night having a medical ahead of a proposed £3.5 million move to Tyneside, although any move would be subject to a work permit being granted.
Now I know what you are thinking about it being in the The Daily Mail and so on, but this has also been confirmed by George Caulkin who is one of us by all accounts. I wouldn’t think he would lead us up the garden path to be fair, and he did claim that Tiote is/was holed up in Jesmond. (more…)
New arrival?Something strange is going on with this Ben Arfa malarkey. The most on/off deal off the summer so far looks like it could be back on at the minute, especially after the player was photographed, or photoshopped, at Newcastle airport yesterday.
I personally thought that the deal was off, or at the very least highly unlikely to happen. But the arrival of Ben Arfa in the North East yesterday changes that a little.
The official line is that the club are refusing to talk to the player as they don’t yet have permission from Marseille to enter negotiations. I don’t buy into that however and believe that conversations will have taken place, perhaps not directly, but maybe through a third party, like an agent for example. (more…)
