Newcastle bid for Djalo, according to agent.

Toon target Djalo?
Toon target Djalo?
It appears that Newcastle are going head to head with Tottenham Hotspur in a race to capture the signature of Sprting Lisbon forward Yannick Djalo.

The players agent claims that both Newcastle and Tottenham have lodged bids in the region of £4 million for the Portuguese striker, although the fact that I am about to quote an agent instantly makes me highly sceptical of this apparent bid.

Both bids are short of what Sporting Lisbon value the player at although Djalo’s agent, Lionel da Silva, claims that it wouldn’t take too much extra to force Sporting’s hand into accepting a bid for the player. We have been linked with Djalo before although that interest surfaced at a time when most of us were still in the dark regarding that whole “capital outlay” nonsense. The purchase of James Perch seems to indictae that we do at least have a small pot of cash to use and hopefully that can be extended a bit more for further reinforcements (more…)

Toon target free agent Jonathan de Guzman, apparently.

de Guzman - Another Newcastle target.
de Guzman - Another Newcastle target.
Another day, another rumour, that is very much the order of play today as silly season really begins to kick-off in the press.

Again we are linked with a player in the newspapers, again there are no quotes, but at least it is a new name on the gossip front, so on that basis it’s worth covering – Never let it be said that I don’t keep you up to date on the latest spin of the rumour wheel!

This latest piece of transfer speculation is regarding Dutch winger Jonathan de Guzman, well I say Dutch but he was actually born in Canada, and an apparent interest from Newcastle in bringing the former Feyenoord player to St James’ Park. (more…)

Samuel bid rejected, but at least it shows that Newcastle have some money!

JLoyd Samuel in action for Bolton.
JLoyd Samuel in action for Bolton.
Now the England action is out of the way for a few days, it gives us a chance to catch up on things that have been happening with Newcastle, although admittedly, and perhaps unsurprisingly, we haven’t really missed much.

One thing that very nearly slipped under the radar was the fact that Newcastle have apparently tabled a bid of around £1 million for Bolton’s versatile defender, JLoyd Samuel, according to Sky Sports anyway.

Apparently this offer was deemed as unacceptable by Bolton Wanderers for a player who is 29-years old, has only featured once under his current boss, and has only 12 months remaining on his contract at The Reebok. Funny that, as paying a seven figure sum for Samuel would be far more than I would be willing to offer for him, especially as he is only really a squad player and never really features in their first team. Stoke maintain Carroll interest.

Carroll: Linked with a move away, again.
Carroll: Linked with a move away, again.
Steven Taylor isn’t the only Newcastle player that appears to be constantly linked with a move away from Newcastle.

Now Andy Carroll looks like he is being placed firmly in that bracket by the press as yet more rumours of a move away from Newcastle surface.

Which is understandable as a player with the potential that Andy Carroll displayed last season will sort of always be in demand. We have heard of links of a move to Blackburn, Bolton, Chelsea and Stoke, all of which have been soundly blown out of the water by the player himself who has come out to the press and admitted previously that he has everything he could dream of whilst playing for his boyhood team, whilst also not forgetting our manger who has said he has no intention of letting Carroll leave. Carroll to Chelsea and Campbell to Toon?

Campbell - Back in the frame for Newcastle?
Campbell - Back in the frame for Newcastle?
Well it is Sunday again, and various news outlets have again failed to disappoint in there outlandish transfer gossip.

Amazingly, none of it regards Steven Taylor, although there is still plenty of time for that to change throughout the day.

One of these pieces of transfer gossip seems to think that Chelsea are lining up a bid for striker, Andy Carroll, whilst the other thinks we are back in the market for Sol Campbell who is again available on a free transfer after his short term contract at Arsenal expire.

Campbell was heavily linked with a move to Tyneside last season after he walked out on Notts County. He was spotted at the ground at everything and apparently told people he was all set to join Newcastle. In the end he didn’t, and when his old club Arsenal came calling he scurried off back down South, although I will admit that he did play some blinders last season, to the surprise of a few who though he was perhaps a bit too old for the rigours of Premier League football. But the thing is, if this rumour was true, at 35-years old now, has Campbell got another season left in the tank? I mean, it’s that little bit easier playing in defence for an Arsenal side who can actually maintain possesion and keep the pressure off their defence as opposed to what it would be like for us next season, where the defence will arguably be our most called upon position.
