Newcastle United vs Manchester City League Cup match banter!

October 30th, 2013 | 98 Comments |

Newcastle United v Manchester City.
No wins in the last 14 against this lot!
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Weds 30th Oct, 2013.
Kick off: 7.45pm.
Referee: Neil Swarbrick.
UK TV: Sky Sports.

Well it would certainly be something of a shock if we beat Manchester City this evening, then Chelsea in the league on Saturday, though I would think that even the most deluded Toon fan won’t hold out much hope of that!

Even in recent times we’ve had our moments against Chelsea, however, we have failed to beat Manchester City in the last fourteen attempts on all competitions, the record being P14, W0, D2, L12. Even against a team of Manchester City’s resources, that is bogey form. Our last win against the ‘Citizens’ came in the Premier League back in the days of Graeme Souness, with a 18th minute Michael Owen goal separating the two sides. (more…)

Sunderland vs Newcastle United derby day match banter!

Newcastle United v Sunderland.
Mackems In trouble (as usual).
Venue: Stadium of Blight, Blunderland.
Date: Sun 27th Oct, 2013.
Kick off: 1.30pm.
Referee: Lee Probert.
UK TV: Sky Sports.

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our ‘match banter’ for this day of days, the Wear-Tyne derby, this time at the Stadium of Blight.

As I pointed out in my extensive match preview for this game, the fiasco which transpired at St James Park last season was just an aberration, an exception that proves the rule as that was the only Tyne – Wear derby Sunderland have won out of the last eleven.

As if that wasn’t enough, Sunderland haven’t won a single Premier League game in their last twelve. Their last league victory was a narrow 1-0 win over Everton way back in April, which was the game after that abovementioned defeat for Newcastle in the last Derby. Since then they have been nosediving headlong into catastrophe even more than they usually do. This should be a lesson to them not to have the temerity to beat us in any more local derbies! (more…)

Newcastle United v Liverpool.
Hope it isn’t like last time.
Venue: St James’ Patk, Newcastle.
Date: Sat 19th Oct, 2013.
Kick off: 12.45pm.
Referee: Andre Marriner.
UK TV: BT Sport.

Hello, good morning / afternnon and welcome to our ‘match banter’ feature for today’s televised (BT Sport) game against Liverpool.

Firstly, apologies to regular readers for the lack of our usual in depth metch preview this time, it’s just been been one of those weeks! This piece won’t be an epic either, I’ll just get on with updating the teams below when they are up, and let you know that though this game is being broadcast on BT Sport in the UK, I will still be posting some links to watch the game online in the comments section too, as well as posting highlights and a video of the whole game when it’s all over.

Here’s hoping we do a little better than last time we played Liverpool at St James’ Park, which of course was a 0-6 trouncing and a defensive horror show. (more…)

Cardiff City vs Newcastle United match banter!

Cardiff City v Newcastle United.
The Magpies enter the Dragon’s Lair!
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff.
Date: Sat 5th Oct, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leics).
UK TV: None.

As I mentioned in my match preview for this game, this could be a decisive game in the career of our current manager if the Magpies are defeated today as our current form simply cannot go on for much longer. As I already pointed out in that same preview, Alan Pardew’s form in our last 38 games has seen a points return of only 39 points and a win percentage of only 28.95%!

Of course, every game is a ‘must watch’ for many of we fans, but this one even more so as the great Toon soap could go into overdrive once again if we are defeated again, but we’ll see.

As you can already read all the news in the run up to this game in the aforementioned preview, I will once again keep this one brief. But I’ll remind you as I usually do that I will also be posting match highlights, as well as a full match video when the game is over. (more…)

Everton vs Newcastle United match banter!

Everton v Newcastle United.
Here’s hoping we aren’t Toffee hammered.
Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool.
Date: Mon 30th Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 8.00pm.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffs).
UK TV: Sky Sports.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this evening’s game against Everton.

As I mentioned in my earlier mega-match preview for this game, this is always an interesting encounter as Everton are the closest team we can compare ourselves to, a kind of benchmark test against a team with similar resources to Newcastle United. Everton are the team we should fighting with for 7th place, though sadly, thanks to the dysfunctional nature of Newcastle Unoted under it’s current ownership, they have usually done better then we have. Here’s hoping we can reverse the usual trend this evening though. (more…)
