Newcastle United v Leeds United.
A run out for the fringe players this evening.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Weds 25th Sep, 2013.

Referee: Mike Jones (Chester).
UK TV: None.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feature for Newcastle United’s League Cup game, this time against the sleeping giants of Leeds United.

For a more in depth look forward to the game, I would suggest checking out the match preview I prepared earlier, which has all the team news, previous form, what the managers have been saying and other stuff too.

Since the abovementioned match preview, the club have reiterated on the eve of the match that cup competitions are no longer a priority for the Magpies, with the club concentrating on a top ten finish in the League as this is far more lucrative for Mike Ashley. Instead, they will be used as an opportunity for the club to look at fringe players, but here’s hoping that this evening will not bring a reapeat of cup fiascos such as Stevenage, Brighton etc anyway. Newcastle United v Hull City.
Brucie’s Tigers are coming – Grrr!
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Sat 21st Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (Bradford).

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game which sees Newcastle United taking on Hull City at St James’ Park.

For a full preview of the game, you can also find an extensive match preview on here for a more in depth look forward to the game with all the teams news, stats and all the usual stuff. On here, I will be updating that with the final team sheets and links to watch the game online etc when they become available.

As I mentioned in the abovementioned preview, if the Magpies win today, it will be the first time they will have managed this feat for almost a year and a half as the last time this happened was back in April 2012, when Newcastle managed a winning run of six games using a very skinny “Christmas Tree” style 4-3-2-1 formation not dissimilar to the style Pardew has used to the side’s last game against Aston Villa. Aston Villa v Newcastle United.
Hopefully, Benteke will stub his toe on the way to Villa Park!
Venue: Villa Park, Birmingham.

Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Mike Dean.

The resumption of Premier League action after the International break see Newcastle United travelling to Birmingham’s Villa Park for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa.

Previous results.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa come into this game at 12th and 13th in the Premier League respctively with 4 points to Newcastle United, and 3 to Aston Villa. Looking at their Premier League form so far this season, Aston Villa got off to an excellent start, convincingly beating Arsenal 3-1. However, this was followed by two successive defeats, 2-1 to Chelsea and 0-1 to Liverpool. Meanwhile, as you probably know, Newcastle’s results have been getting steadily better. After a 4-0 mauling by Manchester City in their opening game, this managed a 0-0 draw with West Ham, finally scraping 1-0 win against a toothless Fulham in their last game. (more…)

Newcastle United v Fulham.
Middle of the road Cottagers visit SJP.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Sat 31st Aug, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Chris Foy.
UK TV: None.

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our ‘match banter’ feature, this time for this afternoon’s game against Martin Jol’s solid, middle of the road Fulham.

Now call me a mad irrational fool, but I have a funny feeling in my water that we might not lose this one, and that if the wind is blowing in the right direction, we might even scrape a win! Although Fulham have assumed their usual position after only two games, ie solidly mid-table (12th), they haven’t been totally convincing, scraping a 1-0 away against a transitional Sunderland side then falling at home 1-3 to their fellow Londoners from Arsenal. Morecambe vs Newcastle United League Cup match banter!

Morecambe v Newcastle United.
A trip to the seaside for the Magpies this evening.
Venue: Globe Arena, Morecambe.
Date: Weds 28th Aug, 2013.
Kick off: 7.45pm.
Referee: Mark Haywood (West Yorks)
UK TV: None.

Tonight sees the Magpies facing the League Two shrimps of Morecambe in the League and to be honest, I know the square root of buggerall about them!

Usually I would be diligent and do a bit of research but today I was delayed in by an unexpected and very nice dinner at a friend’s in Enfield earlier today so I’m afraid this match banter post will be rather rushed this time.

Usually in a contest between Magpies and Shrimps, there should only be one winner, but with some shock results from lower league sides against Premiership opposition already in this competition, plus Newcastle United’s prodigious talent for turning a drama into a catastrophe, you never knaa!
