Newcastle United v Leeds United.
A run out for the fringe players this evening.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Weds 25th Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 7.45pm.
Referee: Mike Jones (Chester).
UK TV: None.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feature for Newcastle United’s League Cup game, this time against the sleeping giants of Leeds United.

For a more in depth look forward to the game, I would suggest checking out the match preview I prepared earlier, which has all the team news, previous form, what the managers have been saying and other stuff too.

Since the abovementioned match preview, the club have reiterated on the eve of the match that cup competitions are no longer a priority for the Magpies, with the club concentrating on a top ten finish in the League as this is far more lucrative for Mike Ashley. Instead, they will be used as an opportunity for the club to look at fringe players, but here’s hoping that this evening will not bring a reapeat of cup fiascos such as Stevenage, Brighton etc anyway.

As I know that most of you read b***** all of these banter pieces anyway, I will keep it brief and just get on with the usual reminders now before I sign off, ie that I will also be posting the final team sheets for the game as soon as they become available (usually about an hour before kick-off), as well as providing a few links to watch the game online. Finally, I will also be posting match highlights and also a full match video if I can when it’s all over.

Howay the Lads!

Do you agree with Alan Pardew's statement that "our home form since I've been at the football club has been brilliant?"

  1. There are going to be links on Wiziwig, 13 to be precise, An hour before kick off.
I’m expecting a long night, Extra time and penalties, And hopefully we’ll get through, But you just don’t know what the “Silver Surfer” will do, Then it could be a “Ben Grimm” tale!

  2. Newcastle team is up now:

  3. I read them Worky which is why I saw that the club does not care about competitions. What can we actually look forward too now then? Seeing as finishing in the top ten is pointless as we don’t care about Europe either.

  4. I’m bored of lies now we have had them constantly for years. Maybe something new inside our club that ruins us. Maybe player revolts.

    “Maybe player revolts.”

Aye like Sunderland, Phisix. It still tickles me that it’s treated as a revelation that Di Canio was a highly authoritarian figure in the dressing room who was carrying on like a crazed fascist dictator. Quelle surprise!

  6. Well we told them but all they thought was that he was the next big messiah, but with dirty knees. :D

Kick off looming, lets do this!

  7. Why do we even bother? Wasn’t Pardew saying just the other day that he will give it a real go in the cups? They are sucking the life out of the club.

on google translate it says the Di Canio Dictatorship was che sorpresa.

    “Why do we even bother?”

I don’t know why I bother with these match banter things anymore. I think it’s time to call it a day.

  9. I am getting nowhere with the streams. I assume it is a boring nil-nil so far as someone would have said something if anything had happened?

  10. I have tried about 10 different streams are they are all shite. Meanwhile other game streams are near perfect. Even streaming hates out team.

  11. I saw a stream which was working without freezing, but it was so dodgy I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It was absolute full of malware and you couldn’t see most of it without downloading something which would almost certainly wreck you computer.

It’s often the same with highlights of the games now as well, Phisix.

  13. I don’t usually get an problems with streams and thats with me using a mobile dongle at the moment. Must be some dodgy ones or maybe something else.

  14. Here’s one. There’s a big ad in the middle that I can’t get rid of but at least you can see the flow of play/keep up with the score.

Watching Man U v Liverpool on my TV and they seem to be taking this competition seriously this year.

GS, don’t you have an adblocker? is there a tiny gray square somewhere on that ad?

  16. I clicked on the “x”s and that usually kills it, not this time. It’s the nasty type that want to download browsers etc. so I am not messing with it.

  17. GS, it’s the little gray xs, sometimes in odd places and semi concealed which shut the ads, not the ones which look like the usual ones. Get an ad blocking plugin on your Firefox or whatever browser you’re using.

“How come Leeds are spending so much time in our half?”

We’ve got the goal, pete, so we’ll try and hold on.

  19. Got it to work but was freezing. Could see enough to know that we have settled for 1-0 and hitting them on the break.

    Another barnburner Pardew half-time talk?

  20. I saw your comment after mine worky. Streams gave up, but happy that we appear to be going through.

Of course, they will say soon that it was a misunderstanding that we are not targeting the cups. Just wait.
