More backing for Andy Carroll.
More backing for Andy Carroll.
This is a very important season for Andy Carroll. He proved last season he is a good Championship striker, but now he gets the chance to prove himself at the next level in the Premier League.

The lanky Avatar look-a-like plundered nineteen goals last season and showed some rapid improvement in his all round game towards the end of the season, and if he gets the service this season then there is no reason why he can’t continue his scoring form and all round improvement.

Current England striker Peter Crouch has been talking about Carroll and has offered the rough diamond some advice for the forthcoming campaign. In fact Crouch believes that Carroll has enough about him to make it all the way to the top, to the point where he represents England on a regular basis. (more…)

One down, two to go!

Timmy, Timmy Krul. Timmy, Timmy Kruuuul.
Timmy, Timmy Krul. Timmy, Timmy Kruuuul.
Contract talks have featured fairly frequently over the summer so far, although admittedly they have only made brief appearances in the news.

Steven Taylor, Andy Carroll and Tim Krul have are three players that have been linked with signing new deals at St James’ Park, although in fairness the Andy Carrol deal is not of the highest priority.

The deals regarding Tim Krul and Steven Taylor are of a high priority however as they have both entered into the last 12-months of their respective contracts. Talks have supposedly been ongoing between the club and all the relevant parties, and those talks appear to have come to fruition today as Tim Krul committed himself to a new four-year contract on Tyneside. Shearer backs Carroll.

Shearer - Legend!
Shearer - Legend!
As Newcastle legends go, Alan Shearer is up there with the best of them, and he is arguably the best English striker I have ever witnessed personally.

He wasn’t very skillful as a striker, he wasn’t even really that quick, but he didn’t half have a knack of finding the back of the net!

The famous Newcastle number 9 shirt has been passed on from one Geordie to another, with a Nigerian inbetween, as Andy Carroll gets the chance to become the latest local hero.

Alan Shearer has given his backing to the new number 9 and believes he has the mental toughness to take on the role, and that is something our former captain, current all-time record goalscorer and former manager, albeit briefly, has in spades. (more…)

Introducing the new number 9: Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll - The new number nine.
Andy Carroll - The new number nine.
It is a move that has been expected by a lot of people, but to day it has finally been confirmed that Andy Carroll will wear the famous number 9 shirt for Newcastle.

Carroll will be following in the footspteps of legends like Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn from this season as he looks to carry on the tradition of the famour jersey.

This could be the making of Andy Carroll, but let’s be fair it could also burden him with pressure. I honestly believe it will be the former as Carroll has already proved he can handle the pressure on the pitch. Think back to Doncaster, and all the pressure that was surrounding that game after the Taylor/Carroll incident, all the media scrutiny, and what did Carroll do? Put the ball in the net to score the winning goal, and that spoke volumes of the lads charcter. (more…)

Signing a striker should be a priority for Newcastle.

Newcastle need backup for these two.
Newcastle need backup for these two.
At the moment, all the rumours seem to be surrounding players such as Dan Gosling and Tom Cleverley.

The problem for me is that both of those are midfield players, and in my opinion we should be making signing a striker a priority. Now it’s only speculation surrounding those two players, but they are both tipped to move to Newcastle soon if you believe what you read in the press.

That is all very good and what not, but what happens at the business end of the pitch? Who is going to put the ball in the back of the net? We need to score goals to survive in the Premier League. Do I have faith in the players that we have at the minute being able to do that? Yes and no is my answer, which is obviously confusing so let me explain a bit more. (more…)
