The Gallowgate - Soon be sporting three new signs. There has been a bit of a storm brewing at St James’ Park over the last few weeks, and it is six advertising boards that have been the in the eye of it.
Controversial plans to stick some advertising signs to the side of the St James’ Park were given the go ahead yesterday despite the plans attracting more that 23,700 objections, including objections from as far a field as Malaysia.
But now Newcastle City Council have agreed the planning application submitted bby the club which will see three new signs attached to the Milburn Stand and another three signs attached to St James’ Park on the outside of the Gallowgate End with the long term aim being to increase commercial revenue coming into the club. Goodison Park - Home of Everton FC.Newcastle are back on the road again this weekend and will be looking to bounce back following the disappointing home defeat at the hands of Blackpool last weekend.
Goodison Park is the destination as Newcastle visit yet another ground that has been less than profitable in terms of points gained for The Toon over the years.
Newcastle battled back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw in our last Premier League match at Goodison Park with goals from Steven Taylor and Damien Duff cancelling out a penalty from Mikel Arteta and a neat finish from Marouane Fellaini in what was Joe Kinnear’s first match in charge for us after his shock appointment into the role in the first place. Many moons ago, I bought an NUFC 12th Man Membership, with the theory being that I could actually use it to get to games.
Apparently the demand is very high for these packs – it must be in fact because here I am three months later still waiting for mine to arrive.
Fair play to the club mind as they have kept us informed all along and told us that the demand has been huge and that there will be a delay in issuing them as they work through the backlog. The problem is that it was the same last year, and the year before that. In fact they have been like this for as long as they have been available to purchase from the club.
These memberships are a great idea for folk like me who like to get to matches, especially away matches. They are not as expensive as a season ticket, obviously, and they come in pretty handy when a season ticket is out of the question. (more…)
Ready for debut? Cheick.Newcastle new boy Cheick Tiote could be in line to make his debut at Everton this weekend.
Tiote was an unused substitute during the 2-0 home loss against Blackpool, which isn’t really surprising considering the lad had been in Africa during the week playing for his country and hadn’t really had a lot of time to get acquanted with the squad.
This week is different, and after a poor result against Blackpool, and some poor performances from some of our players in midfield, Tiote will be looking to get the nod to start the match at Goodison on Saturday. Even if he doesn’t get to start in place of Alan Smith at Everton, Tiote’s debut won’t be too far around the corner and he will surely make his bow against in the daunting League Cup match away at Chelsea in midweek. Around the Grounds by Chris Nelson. Some of my best days supporting Newcastle have come away from St James’ Park. I don’t mean that as a criticism of our home ground as, quite simply, it isn’t.
Being at a match at St James’ Park can be a unique experience which is unrivalled so far on my travels, but being the adventurous type, combined with a lack of time, and sometimes a lack of money or transport, means that a lot of my support is now done away from SJP.
I would like nothing better than to be able to make every home game, but unfortunately I can’t. It costs me roughly £150 for a day at St James’, and sometimes that just isn’t possible.
Many of you know that I also work nights nowadays, and that it can roll into a Saturday morning, which also counts against me trying to make the 420-mile round trip to Newcastle. So as a compromise, I try to do as many games as my time and money allows me to, although perhaps inevitably most of these games come away from St James’ Park. (more…)
