Alan Pardew confirms that Newcastle United are already active in the transfer market.

Alan Pardew has confirmed that the club has made ‘several approaches’ to other clubs to begin recruiting players for next season, although none of these approaches are said to be in an advanced stage yet.

When asked if the club had begun sounding out potential transfer targets Pardew said:

Yes we have. We’ve made contact with a few clubs about the availability of players, I think that’s important.

Pardew refused to be specific on names but rumour (and The Journal) suggests that Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro, France Under-21 left-back Cheikh M’Bengue, Hamburg-based Ivory Coast left-back Guy Demel, Cardiff’s Jay Bothroyd and Reading’s Shane Long are amongst those on Pardew’s wish list.

Speculation also suggests the club are after a midfielder to step into Tiote’s shoes when he’s away at the Africa Nations Cup next season and a right back to provide competition for Danny Simpson.

Take the names with a pinch of salt though because none of them have come from any quotes by club officials as far as I can see. I tend to think journalists have noticed who Graham Carr and the scouting network have been watching and extrapolated names from that.

In terms of the number of players he wants and the amount of money he’ll spend, Alan Pardew isn’t sure yet. He said:

I haven’t put a figure on it yet because it depends on the re-negotiations of players we have.

Joey, Enrique and Nolan are still outstanding and maybe others I won’t mention are there that we still need to secure.

There’s a lot to be done, but the process has started, I can assure you of that.

We’re looking, Graham Carr and the scouting team are looking, we’re very much on the ball.

Press opinion suggests that the club may yet consider taking Stephen Ireland but only if Villa significantly cut their original £8m asking price, which makes sense given that all we’ve seen of the player between injuries is two substitutions.

On the off chance that Kevin Gameiro may indeed be a Toon target, here’s a brief video of some of his on-pitch exploits:

Fine but we can’t afford to let these negotiatons drag on. They really must be finallised before the break to allow for replacemets and their integration with the club during it.

The alternative is to plough ahead with buying those who could either provide back up for or replace the likes of Nolan, Barton, Enrigue and any others that may be tempted to leave.

    Dream on!

  2. oh the same old guff we heard from CH last season and AP in january… we’ve been sooo active for months we’ve found Shefqi hidden in the dole queue..

Talk is cheap, why doesnt AP just stop digging his humble hole and stop promising because FatAsh will make a right mug of him…again… (carroll)

  3. Please do not buy Jay Bothroyd that would be a total waste of money. If that is the standard of player we are after then we might as well all forget any hopes of progression.I would not swap Ameobi for him and I’m serious.

  4. Off topic what’s the verdict on the new home kit?

It may as well be all fookin’ Black….won’t be buying one anyway the last 2 puma kits home and the blue one both went back as the fabric was piss poor.

Yeah I always plan a shopping spree when I dunno what I have to spend…makes sense don’t it Partridge?

Starting to really hate this Muppet of a Manager.

  5. I think the strip looks sweet. It must be hard when all you have to work with is black nd white stripes..

  6. why don’t we have a go at getting Sturridge, he looks a great prospect.

Pardwho will look until every option has gone elsewhere then we’ll bid for Carlton Cole and some 1st division pap..

  7. Kev looks canny from that clip: Quick footed, with guile & deft of touch.

  8. Loads of players start off in the lower leagues lads, that doesn’t make them crap.

  9. Aye CLiNT but if they’re all played into the Prem, then we’ll have problems.

Don’t we need an injetion of quality, experienced signings?

  10. I accept it’s down to the club to convince players to stay. But I don’t accept for one second you need to wait til players come in.

It’s about Ashley sitting down with the players and manager and explaining his intentions and providing promises.

I don’t buy this wait and see by who we buy. Some purchases are completed on the last day of the window .

Mark, I seem to recall that Hughton said next to nothing, but got on with bringing in people like Graham Carr, Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa.

  12. The speculation of who might arrive at the club during the next window continues.
It`s amazing how fans are willing to believe almost anything they hear or read.
Yeah we got a big wedge from the AC deal and could get a few bob more from Enrique, so our expectations are high.
Carr and his guys are scouring europe for top talent,
ermm!, that was before they sold the tickets.
Now they are scouring the second tier and the free agent list.
If you are a betting man , you go on track records and Ashleys track record is not a good one of late.
He spent on Ben Arfa, not a lot for such a talent, the guy almost forced himself on the club and it was a no brainer that he could be eventually sold on for a prfit.
Rumors of Whickham coming ? probably speculating he could be the next AC with another big sell on profit.
Look this guy is in retailing, which he has confused with show business, which is fooball.
My point, Ashley would like to make a profit from NUFC, get his investment back and get out without loosing anything in the deal, he will continue to apply the tactics of a retailer, which will render the club to that of a mid or lower level PL side and we can expect nothing special untill he gets his asking price and goes.
So dont expect much in the way of re-inforcements and fugedaboud any silverware anytime soon.

  13. All i’m saying is that there’s something in getting the odd player from lower leagues who look good, to develop.

  14. Otherwise it’s wait for someone else to spot their potential, then pay over the odds later.
