According to Sky Sports, Hitman Harewood is likely to complete a 3-month loan move to Newcastle by the end of the week.

Phil Sproson, the striker’s representative, said:

I believe we are close to agreeing everything and hopefully the move can be finalised later this week.

Talks are ongoing between both clubs and I think they are keen to get it resolved.

Marlon is back to fitness now and he is ready and raring to go.

Marlon is very keen on going to Newcastle and playing regular first-team football again.

In my last article I mentioned that Notts Country were also interested in Harewood but it looks like we might beat them to him.

I’m not sure what the arrival of Harewood will mean for the starting 11. Are we getting Harewood as a first choice striker or as backup? If the former then I’m guessing we could expect to see Carroll and Harewood starting upfront with both Ranger and Lovenkrands relegated to the bench. If the latter then I guess Harewood will warm the bench until needed.

Of course someone will have to make way for Ameobi when he’s fit again too. All of a sudden we seem to have surplus strikers, although there’s still an awful long way to go in the season and probably a fair few injuries to contend with.

I’m not sure how many more players Hughton plans to bring in (or will be allowed to bring in) – we’ve brought in Simpson and Khizanishvili in defence and Lovenkrands and (hopefully) Harewood in attack so far.

  1. “Are we buying Harewood as a first choice striker or as backup?”

    Shouldn’t that be “loaning”?

  2. Would have preferred Kamara, but then at least it looks like we are finally making loan deals now. Fair play.
