Surprisingly, or perhaps not, some fans appear to be taking this pre-season defeat to heart, which would be particularly noticable if you had the privelage of keeping in touch with the match via Lee Ryder’s Blog on the Tyne live feed.
The message to those fans from me, and probably a lot of others, is simple – Get a grip!
It’s pre-season, and whilst it would be nice to have won the game I very much doubt that our whole season is on the verge of collapse because of a narrow defeat to a team that is only one league below us. It could be worse anyway, 6-1, Leyton Orient, ring any bells? Exactly. With a patched up team on the pitch there was always going to be a chance of losing, although it does highlight just how succeptable the squad is to injury. (more…)

Newcastle fans get called many things, some of them unwarranted, but one thing that can’t be denied is that we travel in numbers, and I believe we will be doing much the same at Carrow Road tomorrow afternoon.
Newly promoted Norwich will represent a step up in class over last weeks opponents (Carlisle) and should provide a much sterner test for Newcastle as pre-season begins to get into full swing. One thing last weeks visit to Brunton Park does give us is an insight as to how the game will be approached, which does come in handy and means I won’t be fliying blind like I was last week for my match preview. Newcastle United’s pre-season campaign kicks off in earnest tomorrow (Saturday) as preparations for the new season finally get underway properly.
Of course there has been lots of training going on behind the scenes, particularly over in Ireland, but tomorrow is our first proper chance to see the lads in pre-season action.
Likewise, the match against Carlisle gives me the chance to get in some pre-season practice, particularly as I look to get back into the swing of the matchday experience on the ‘blog. I’m only practising so we can try to give you the best here at nufgblog.org, so at least that is the sucking up done I guess! (more…)

I know I am, and I can’t wait for us to kick off our pre-season campaign away at Carlisle in a little over a weeks time. At least it will give us something else to focus on, and it will give us a sneak preview as to how the team are shaping up for the forthcoming season.
I think perhaps my excitement regarding the new season has been cranked up a notch by what has been a disappointing summer, particularly on the World Cup front as England faltered at the first knockout hurdle leaving me with not much else to focus on apart from domestic interest. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had half an eye on the World Cup ever since England’s departure, but for me it just isn’t the same without them in the competiton and I have found it hard to sit there as a neutral and take in the dull game after dull game that has been on offer.
