Miller scores against The Mags... Again!
Miller scores against The Mags... Again!
After being enthused with Tuesday nights performance, I think it is fair to say I am rather unenthused after this performance.

Newcastle tasted defeat in their final warm up game for the new season, and if we play like that we will be tasting it a lot more in the coming season.

The away side looked neat and tidy on the ball, but the lack of any real quality showed up again as they were unable to convert that possesion into any real meaningful chances. Jonas Gutierrez looked rusty whilst James Perch showed some pace, which countered some of his awful positioning. Shola Ameobi looked static, Danny Guthrie became Danny ‘hit one and miss three’ and Wayne Routledge appeared to look like he had forgotten how to cross a ball. (more…)

Rangers v Newcastle – Pre-season match banter.

Half of that will be black and white!

Welcome to the match banter article that will cover our last pre-season friendly against Rangers in Glasgow.

A fantastic atmosphere will be guaranteed at Ibrox in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd, swelled by at least 3,850 Newcastle United fans.

Although only a friendly, a bit of spice will be guaranteed during the match. Rangers will not want to lose in front of their home fans, and as Bob Moncur said yesterday, it is Scotland v England, despite it being a relatively meaningless friendly.

As it is our last match, I would expect to see the team that will play against Manchester United feature at some point, and the big atmosphere that will be generated should help them get prepared for Old Trafford in nine days time. (more…)

Rangers v Newcastle – Pre-season match preview.

Glasgow Rangers FC.

Newcastle play their last scheduled game of pre-season at Ibrox tomorrow lunchtime as they go toe-to-toe with Glasgow Rangers.

There is a possibility of fitting in an extra game in midweek because of our opening game now being played on a Monday evening, although as yet there is nothing to report on that one.

So as it stands, this is the last chance for the squad to get a semi-competitive run out before they knuckle down for that last bit of training.

A positive result tomorrow would be nice to go along with our enthusing performance against Deportivo the other night and our spirited fightback against PSV last Saturday, but any result will have to be worked for as Rangers won’t give anything away cheaply. (more…)

Rangers v Newcastle – An away day guide.

Ibrox - Home of the teddy bears.
Newcastle United head north of the border for their final pre-season game on Saturday, and will be taking at least 3,850 fans with them.

That is the official allocation of tickets given to Newcastle, and all of them have been sold. Fans will be located in the Broomloan Road stand upper and lower tiers.

I’ve been asked to provide an away fans guide for the match, so that is just what I have done. The last time we were at Ibrox was back in 1993 for Ally McCoist’s testimonial, so a lot of things would have changed in the past 17 years. If you feel I have missed anything, or if you have anything to add, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment at the bottom of the page. (more…)
