Fancied by JolMartin Jol is allegedly interested in Newcastle United captain Kevin Nolan and Kevin Gameiro rules out any chance of comin to Tyneside.
I think we’d all pretty much accepted that Lorient’s Kevin Gameiro wasn’t coming to Newcastle and the player himself has now confirmed that, saying:
“I’ll think about my future in the coming days.
“It will be Paris or Valencia. The two clubs are very good.
“I will calmly make my decision over the next days.
“I love both clubs. I have always been attracted to Spain.
“We will see what will happen. An agreement has yet to be made with Lorient.”
So we can scratch that one off the list.
There is still the question of Lille’s Gervinho of course and whilst he’s confirmed he wants to play in the English Premier League, he’s also said that he wants to prove himself in a ‘large European club’. That could be taken to mean a club playing European football next season, which would make Manchester City and Arsenal the favourites of his alleged English suitors.
Rumour has it that Alan Pardew has cut his holiday short to officially welcome Yohan Cabaye to Newcastle United. That could happen today and whispers of press conferences have reached my delicate (and rather fetching) ears, although such rumours may of course be total bunk. (more…)
Who are we after?A summary of the current transfer targets at Newcastle United, not a single one of which has actually been confirmed by the club!
As another week gets underway, we can no doubt expect a load more transfer speculation relating to our club because it is after all silly season.
So I thought I’d kick off by doing a brief summary of where we supposedly stand with some of the transfer targets rumoured to date.
First of all, let’s be clear about one thing: the club have not confirmed a single transfer in and have only confirmed the exit of Sol Campbell and Shefki Kuqi, so that is our official transfer status at the moment.
Mehdi Abeid
By all accounts this is actually a done deal and the player himself has confirmed that he has agreed a deal with Newcastle after being welcomed and encouraged by Tiote and Ben Arfa. The 18 year old attacking midfielder has played most of his football for the Lens B team, so I’m guessing he’s down as one for the future. (more…)
Alternative to Gameiro?Newcastle United look unlikely to sign Kevin Gameiro now, although he is coming to the North East next week. The club have allegedly turned their attention to Shane Long as a backup if a deal for Gameiro falls through.
It seems that Newcastle have not given up Kevin Gameiro yet, despite the player having said that Valencia and Paris Saint-Germain are his preferred choices.
Newcastle have already had a £10m bid for Gameiro ‘accepted’ by Lorient and it’s now up to the player to decide where his future lies. Valencia have no been able to match our bid and are prepared to wait, hoping that the player’s own preferences will eventually make him choose Spain.
Meanwhile, the Qatar Investment Authority bought 70% of PSG last week and are now said to be well-funded, although I’m not sure if they’ve made an actual bid for Gameiro yet.
Nevertheless, Gameiro is supposedly coming to Tyneside at the end of next week when Pardew and Llambias will work him over and try and persuade him to join the Toon, although it’s probably fair to say that it’s looking unlikely. (more…)
Birmingham target, allegedlyBirmingham allegedly want Newcastle’s Leon Best. Dan Gosling and Hatem Ben Arfa gets in some early pre-season training. And Michael Owen seems to have upset a few people.
With all the speculation about who we might be buying, I’d quite forgotten that other teams might want some of our players other than Jose Enrique.
If you believe the Mail (no tittering), freshly relegated Birmingham are after Leon Best to replace Cameron Jerome who Alex McLeish seems resigned to losing. I actually thought Leon Best did a decent job for us last season, getting 6 goals in 12 games, and of all our current strikers he’s the one I’d most like to keep, but I guess it depends on who we bring in over the summer to enhance our goal-scoring capabilities.
How much do you think Best is worth anyway?
Both Dan Gosling and Hatem Ben Arfa have made an early return for pre-season training to ensure that they’re fully fit for next season. (more…)
Erding - Toon target? As Kevin Gameiro seems to be slipping from Newcastle United’s grasp, the foreign press seems to think we’ve turned our attentions to Melvut Erding.
There’s still a lot of “will he/won’t he” regarding Kevin Gameiro‘s potential transfer to Newcastle, but the noises coming from the player himself are making it look increasingly unlikely.
Further to my esteemed fellow author’s post yesterday, Gameiro has been indicating that Paris Saint-Germain are in hot pursuit of him and the Paris club’s players have been leaning on him a bit. Gameiro said:
“Mamadou Sakho [PSG defender and vice captain] talks about it much. He pushes me to sign. PSG is one of my list. This is a club with a history, a great club but it is not the only one on my list
“For me, the Parc des Princes stadium is the best in France. When the Velodrome in Marseille will be covered that may be different.”
From what I can gather a ‘big French club’ is second on his list after Valencia, which would relegate us to at least third and most likely out of the running. (more…)
