Bye bye gosling?I’ve got to admit, when we signed young Dan Gosling from Everton (On a free) I was very happy.
A young creative English player whose career seemed on the up. However after reading the Daily Fail’s article this morning, I’m dismayed to see he might be off to Doncaster.
Dan Gosling, where did it all go wrong?
Is this the trouble with flying high in the Premier League, only yesterday in my Tim Krul blog did I highlight how we can afford to give these youngsters a chance given our league position. Yet we have a bright young English player who wants to go and play his trade in Doncaster?
I feel that young Gosling may be regretting his trip to the Toon, at Everton, who were under resourced, he and Rodwell sent many a tongues wagging about how they were having a positive influence at Goodison. However all I really have seen from him in a Toon shirt is injury and reserve games. I do feel that he is good enough for our first team, which is why I’m so perplexed at this reported move to Donny. Pardew: “More than enough to see us through” Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew has been speaking once again on the long awaited return of wonder wing man, Hatem Ben Arfa, along with the loss of in form striker, Leon Best, who will now be out for the rest of the season after being told he needed an ankle operation. Talking to The Shields Gazette, he also filled us in on the other injuries which have ravaged the squad recently.
Pardew, who previously said that he would like to say that he “would like to say we won’t need him before the end of the season”, then added that he may be looking to use him in the last three games, is now suggesting that the game against Liverpool (the fourth last game of the season) is when the French Tunisian will start to figure in his thoughts.
He started on the situation regarding Leon Best, saying:
“I had an inkling last week all was not well. It’s best to get him right and ready to rumble next season.” (more…)
Smoggie Ranger?News emerged yesterday suggesting that Middlesbrough could be looking to take Nile Ranger to The Riverside on loan.
Now apart from all the jokes about empty seats at their ground and the less than glamorous surroundings of Middlesbrough, I actually think that this would be a good move.
I don’t know about you guys and gals, but I’m getting increasingly fed up with what is looking to be some of the best youth talent we have had on our books for some considerable time not getting as much as a sniff of the first-team. Highly coveted youngsters like Ranger and Haris Vuckic will just stagnate if they aren’t given the opportunity to flourish.
First-team football should be part of any young players development. No amount of Under-18 games or reserve matches will beat the cut and thrust of playing in the first team. A case in point being Kazenga Lua Lua who is currently plying his trade at Brighton, and is earning numerous pladits for his performances by all accounts. (more…)
Fraser Forster off to Celtic?Newcastle look like they are about to send one of their stars of the future out on loan for the whole season.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster was at Celtic watching them beat St Mirren 4-0 yesterday and is set to join the SPL outfit after a recommendation from Neil Lennon’s former team-mate, Paul Lambert, who had the 6ft 7ins stopper on loan at Carrow Road last season.
I’m in two minds over this move to be honest. On one hand it could be very good for Forster, if he is starting in goal every week. But on the other hand, what is the point in sending the player to a team where he might just sit on the bench? The lad is at a point in his career where he needs games to develop, and I’m not sure whether he will get them at Celtic. (more…)
Ranger to be loaned out?Fellow Premier League new boys look to be targetting one of our own young guns, Nile Ranger, as they look to beef up their attack in an attempt to survive in the Premier League.
Talks have apparently taken place between Ian Holloway and Chris Hughton over the possibility of Ranger making the switch to Bloomfield Road, according to The Express.
It is widely expected that some of younger players will be moving out on loan to various clubs throughout the course of the season, and Nile Ranger always had an outside chance of being sent out on loan this season, perhaps to a team in the Championship.
If this report is to be believed then apparently not, and in that case you have to question the wisdom of loaning out a player to a team that will probably be knocking around the same part of the league table as us. It could come back and bite us on the arse, remember Lomano Lua Lua and Portsmouth anyone? (more…)
