The masked assassin strikes.Leon Best has been speaking of his elation about sealing a deadline day move to Newcastle United. The 23 year old could be set to make his debut against Cardiff City on Friday night, and many fans willl be hoping for an instant impact against an in-form and free scoring Bluebirds team.
It’s a novelty we haven’t been used to recently, players giving interviews describing their arrival at the club, but we have been spoilt in the past week! The Republic of Ireland international said of his move;
“I am over the moon with this move. I think this is the best thing that could have happened to me.”
“I heard little bits and bobs at the start of the transfer window that Newcastle were interested.” (more…)
Routledge: "Geared up for promotion"Newcastle United’s latest signing, Wayne Routledge, has been spilling the beans on his latest move.
Interviewed by ex Magpie, and now North East football correspondent for Sky Sports News, David Craig, the pacy ex QPR winger talked about his reasons for coming to St James’s Park.
After observing that Routledge was “a bit of a hot property and sought after”, Craig asked the new boy:
“There were a number of clubs chasing your signature. Why did you change to Newcastle?”
To which Routledge replied:
“Newcastle`s Newcastle, everyone knows what they`re about.”
“It`s a massive club and obviously the fan base here is unbelievable. So, as soon as I got the call, the decision was made for me,”
Craig then touched on some of the great Toon widemen of the past, asking Wayne how he felt about following in the footsteps of such “true legends” as David Ginola et al, to which he diplomatically replied:
“Like you said, there have been absolutely true legends playing for this club,” continuing: (more…)
Carroll: "Raring to go for Palace".Good words today coming from two of our players, Andy Carrol and Kevin Nolan, with both of them saying the best thing to get over a defeat is another game, and that comes in the shape of Newcastle United’s home encounter with Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.
Both lads are understandably annoyed with being eliminated from the FA Cup on Saturday, but are determined that it won’t affect The Toon’s promotion push and are seeking to use the defeat as a springboard to pick up the teams league form. Scouse Nolan said:
“Going out (of the cup) is a blow, but we can only look to our next game.”
“The fans were great at West Brom and that can only drive us on, as can this result.”
“We are still top of the league and we’ve got to finish off the job. This can inspire us to do that. We’re going for it.”
With the injury to Shola Ameobi, the onus could now be on Andy Carroll to help score the goals to keep us top of the league. His 2 goals on Saturday were excellent, and could be just the confidence boost the Gateshead born hitman has needed. Speaking of ending his 3 month goal drought, Carroll said: (more…)
Has Danny finally found his 'dream date' with Toon?New signing, Danny Simpson has been revealing his feelings on what it’s like to be Newcastle United player. The 23 year old right back completed his medical yesterday, after agreeing terms in “last ditch talks” with Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood. He also revealed that his below par performance in the last game was due to him carrying an injury.
On the transfer he said:
“I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve wanted this move ever since I walked in the door back in August. I’ve loved every minute!”
Since joining Manchester United as a young trainee, Danny had been shunted out on loan to Royal Antwerp (twice). Then, the poor unfortunate had to suffer the ultimate indignity; a season in hell with the unwashed vagrants at the Stadium of Blight. His life on the road then continued at Ipswich, Blackburn Rovers, then, finally, Newcastle United. Touching on this nomadic lifestyle, he commented:
“It’s hard when you’re going from club to club. This is the first place where it’s really felt like home and to secure my future here is all I’ve ever wanted.
“I can’t wait now for the rest of the season and helping to put this club back where it belongs.
“We’ve had a good start but the job is only half done and I’m happy to be here to help finish it.(more…)
Sideshow Bob: "A real class defender" says Hughton.Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton, has been giving ’nuff respect to more players on nufcTV. This time, Hughton’s effusive praise has been heaped upon the two Fabs, Colloccini and Pancrate, and a back in the goals Peter Lovenkrands.
Lovenkrands hailed.
First to be showered with praise was recently troubled Dane, Lovenkrands, who has struggled with family illness and a lack of full match fitness in the last few months. On the Great Dane, Hughton gushed:
“He gives us that pace up the middle and is a great outlet,”
On his goalscoring performance in the Swansea game, he effused:
“I thought he coped with the 90 minutes tremendously well given the fact it was his first game for a while.
“He was full of running towards the end and that’s testament to his hard work.
“He got a good goal and it was a great assist for Marlon.
“That performance will lift him and I thought overall he was excellent.”(more…)
