Vučkić: He shoots, he scores!
Vučkić: He shoots, he scores!
Newcastle United’s most precocious young talent, Haris Vučkić, has been back in the spotlight after several month on the sidelines with injuries to both his knee and his ankle. Firstly, he has reputedly been attracting interest from no lesser team than Manchester United, and secondly he scored the first goals since his layoff, two in the reserves fixture with Huddersfield; but more on that story later.

Speaking on the reported interest from the Red Devils, Vučkić commented to the Slovenian ‘Ekipa’:

“I heard the news about United wanting me, but if I’m honest, then I must confess I haven’t had any contact with them. I only know what was written in the press.” (more…)

Nolan: Learning from the mistakes of the past.
Nolan: Learning from the mistakes of the past.
Newcastle United midfield maestro, Kevin Nolan, who has been instrumental in the club’s successful season, has been answering the critics who said that the club wouldn’t make it back to the Premier League at the first attempt. He also sounded very optimistic about Newcastle United’s future prospects, suggesting that promotion and the winning of the Championship could be just the “beginning of something which is going to be brilliant for Newcastle United”.

Moving on from what was said in the past, Nolan then switched his attention to the undoubtedly difficult task which lies ahead in the Premiership. Nolan mused: (more…)

We're back, better, and with a point to prove!
We're back, better, and with a point to prove!
Danny Guthrie appeared in defiant mood whilst talking to the press today, insisting that Newcastle United will be going back into the big time with a point to prove after last seasons disappointing relegation.

Guthrie has been improving steadily this season and that has become more evident since he moved into his favoured central midfield position. At only 22 years old, a season in the Championship could be just what the doctor ordered in an effort to improve his all round game. The Shrewsbury born midfielder has had to deal with competition for places from more senior players such as Kevin Nolan and Alan Smith but has sparkled at times when given the nod to play, creating 11 goals and scoring 4 for himself in his 33 league appearances this term. Andy Carroll & Wayne Routledge: Debt, promotion and the fans.

Routledge: Revelation against Coventry.
Routledge: Revelation against Coventry.
After last night scintillating 4-1 win over Coventry City, it’s only natural that we are going to hear a few snippets from the players, especially given the pressure the lads were under to get a result last night after a sequence of less than impressive performances over the last few weeks, Cardiff aside of course.

And it seems that the feelings of our fans are a factor that are driving the players forward. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that after relegation, and in the run up to it in fact, that I was appalled with the seeming lack of effort and willing from the players. It’s just my opinion, but you can only blame what happened behind the scenes so much. After that, it’s up to the players to put on a performance when they ‘cross the white line’, something which a lot of them didn’t.
