Danny Guthrie – “We have a point to prove”.

Guthrie has been improving steadily this season and that has become more evident since he moved into his favoured central midfield position. At only 22 years old, a season in the Championship could be just what the doctor ordered in an effort to improve his all round game. The Shrewsbury born midfielder has had to deal with competition for places from more senior players such as Kevin Nolan and Alan Smith but has sparkled at times when given the nod to play, creating 11 goals and scoring 4 for himself in his 33 league appearances this term.
Despite featuring regularly this term, Guthrie admits that whilst this season has been enjoyable the team are in no rush to experience the punishing schedule again anytime soon. For the players to avoid that they will need to pull together next season just as they have this term and yet again go about their business whilst trying to prove doubters wrong.
“We’re coming back up with a point to prove,” Guthrie said. “We know how difficult it will be next season, but that’s the sort of thing we want to do again.”
“You want to prove people wrong, and prove you’re playing in the league you deserve to be in, next season will be exciting for all of us.”
So the mood that has been coming out of the camp from several players over the past few weeks has been pretty much the same, that the players are ready for the fight for Premier League survival. However, I’ve been thinking about why I would like to prove a point in the Premier League, or more specifically against whom I would like to prove a point against. Some of them may not happen or may not be realistic but are still things I would like to see us stick two fingers up at, so here goes.
Damien Duff – The Irishman needs to learn to shut his trap! After declaring himself loyal to the Toon, he has taken every opportunity to talk of his relief at leaving Tyneside and never showed anywhere near the form for us that he did at Blackburn, Chelsea and now at Fulham.
Habib Beye – The two games I am looking for are the Villa matches home and away. I will be looking at going to both so I can wave at him as he sits on the bench, if he even makes it on there.
Villa fans – There are more of them now they have filled the empty seats at Villa Park, seats that had seen 10 years of continuous daylight before Martin O’Neill. Their antics at the final game of last season riled me and the banners they brought out were uncalled for. I never realised we were so important to them.
Anything Hull City – Like a spot on your backside that wont go away, Hull City should they survive will be another target. My hatred of them has been calmed by the departure of Phil Brown although they still make the list.
And finally,
Michael Owen – I don’t really have any problem with him as such. He scored a goal every other game when fit and it wasn’t his fault he was on whacking great wages, Shepherd sanctioned them with sponsorship money! I just expected more form a captain in our hour of need, not just on the pitch but off it aswell.
See, so me and Danny both have our points to prove!
We also have a point to prove on Saturday, Ian Holloway has been bragging in the press how Blackpool turned us over and he would love to do the double over us, well i would love to see him put firmly in his place the little gobshite.
