Harper: The one with the s**te sculpture (again).Anyone who doubts Newcastle United’s players total loyalty must take a look at comments made since the derby victory.
Shola Ameobi, Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton have now been joined by long serving, and long suffering goalkeeper, Steve Harper, in endorsing Hughton’s hopes for a new contract.
Harper, who has worked with 10 managers since joining the club in 1993 should be more knowledgeable then as to what United need from their boss.
And Speaking to the Telegraphy. Harper has now outlined the characteristics which make Hughton “perfect” for United:
“He has been the ideal manager for us. He doesn’t work the crowd; he just gets his head down and gets on with the job. He doesn’t milk it; he gets on with things irrespective of things going on around him.”
“He is incredible. He is always the same, he doesn’t get carried away when things are going well and he doesn’t get too down when they are not. He is very level-headed, which is what this club needs. He is the perfect man for the job.”(more…)
Lovenkrands: Hoping for a place. On the eve of Newcastle United’s League Cup clash with Arsenal, Newcastle United striker, Peter Lovenkrands, has been hailing the stylish passing play of the North London giants, likening them to Barcelona. However, the great Dane still thinks that victory is possible, especially after the Magpies’ scintillating 4-3 victory against the mighty Chelsea in the last round. Another one against the “Gooners” would mean a place in the Quarter Finals.
Lovenkrands said of Arsenal:
“They are the team who come closest to the passing game of Barcelona, it’s a similar style with the same kind of players like Fabregas, who can pass like Iniesta or Xavi.”
On what it’s like to actually play against them, Lovenkrands added:
“I’d pay to watch them because it’s so exciting, but it’s not too much fun playing against Arsenal when you’re running about after them. It’s a matter of trying to get hold of the ball first and if we can play like we did at Chelsea, you never know.”
Thanks to manager, Chris Hughton’s seeming preference for big target men such Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi over swift gundogs such as Lovenkrands, it has been a lean time in terms of first team action for the Dane recently, however the League Cup has provided an opportunity for him to get some more time in, however it is still unknown whether he will feature for the Magpies tomorrow evening. Vučkić: “I love the game and the people here”Perhaps the most talented of Newcastle United’s crop of young talent waiting in the wings, Slovenian, Haris Vučkić, has been speaking on his life at Newcastle United. He spoke of the interest shown in the young star from the likes of Manchester United, AC Milan and Real Madrid, Newcastle United’s League Cup tie with Arsenal tomorrow evening, and life at Newcastle in general.
He began on the interest from some of the giants from the footballing world:
“I didn’t know too much about AC Milan or Real Madrid until I read it in the papers back home.” Vuckic began, moving on to his life at Newcastle, and how his head hasn’t been turned by the high profile outside interest. He continued:
“If Manchester United or Real Madrid are watching you, it tells you that you are doing the right things, but it won’t disturb me. I’m only thinking about Newcastle in the future. (more…)
Dyer: Naughty boy on Tyneside.Former Toon midfielder, Kieron Dyer, has come out with a warning to Andy Carroll, as the latest episode in the Carroll saga unravels with news of his latest brush with the courts and an incident involving an attack on his new Range Rover.
Dyer, who spent who spent no less than eight years on Tyneside and has had a significant portion of his career ruined by injury, was involved in various incidents while on Tyneside. These included a violent encounter with teammate, Lee Bowyer, on the pitch, also having his car vandalised, as well as “roasting” allegations and a memorable run in with Sir Bobby Robson. He said of his own time at Newcastle:
“They called us the Brat Pack, and I suppose we were at the time. There was myself, Craig Bellamy, Jermaine Jenas, Titus Bramble, Carl Cort – we were young lads who had a lot of money, single, living away from home.
“We were enjoying life off the pitch and we got up to all sorts. But that is the problem you have in a city like Newcastle.
“We were doing well on the pitch and we were intent on enjoying ourselves off it, but we got into too many scrapes. We attracted the wrong sort of attention and there are things I did which I just can’t believe when I look back.(more…)
