It’s payback time in the Premier League!

Revenge is sweet!
Revenge is sweet!
Now, I’m not usually a bitter person, and usually I don’t hold grudges, well not for long anyway, but certain things do tend to stick in my mind from time to time.

A lot of those things that stick in my mind stem from our relagation season, bubbling away under the surface as I knew we couldn’t pay certain people back in any way, shape, or form. Payback is hard to administer when you’re not playing against them afterall! Now, of course, we are back. And we also know what the fixtures are, so I have been going through them looking for particular matches throughout the season that interest me, well they all interest me obviously, but I mean the matches where retribution is a must for me. How have the ton-up club fared in the Premier League?

Our history making team.
Our history making team.
When the curtain drew shut on the season just gone, Newcastle became only the fourth team since the shake up of the football pyramid to amass more than 100 points. But does that accolade stand us in good stead for our return to the Premier League?

Aside from us, the other teams that are part of the ton-up club are the dirty tramps from down the road, Fulham and Reading. I wondered what exactly this meant, so spurred on by an idea from one of our fellow ‘bloggers, Richietoon, I decided to see just how they fared back in in the big time, and the results are rather surprising, certainly more surprising than I thought they would be. Niall Quinn thinks Newcastle are playing transfer market games.

Quinn - an unwashed legend.
Quinn - an unwashed legend.
Our unwashed friends from down the road have today had their say on just how they interpret the revelations that Newcastle could be the poor relations in the North East next season.

Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn is wary of the statement issued by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley that claims we wont be spending much money over the summer, or any at all depending on which version of capital outlay you lean towards believing.

But let’s not turn this into another debate about what capital outlay means eh? A lot of clubs will be cutting their cloth in the near future, anxious not to follow in the footsteps of teams like Portsmouth and Hull with teams like West Ham United and Liverpool balanced dangerously on the edge of a financial precipice. Despite this though, Quinn has doubts over the sincerity of our apparent new austerity measures: (more…)

Nedum Onuoha would be a snip for £3 million.

Available at a knock down price?
Available at a knock down price?
It looks like the love affair between Nedum Onuoha and Manchester City is coming to an abrupt end, and if it was up to me I would be straight in there making sure Newcastle United could benefit from it.

Onuoha appeared on Soccer AM yesterday and was less than complimentary about his current boss at Manchester City, Roberto Mancini. At 23 years old and with the best years of his career in front him, Onouha would appear to fit in with our much speculated about transfer policy, and would improve our options at both right back and in the centre of the defence. Rumours that a price tag of around £3 million have been mentioned, but when you consider that he could be worth far more than that in a few years time then it would make sense for Mike Ashley to dip into his pockets, or the clubs bank balance, to sign a player that would not only benefit us now, but also strengthen us for the future. Louise Taylor lies in the gutter.

Taylor: Muckraking hypocrite.
Taylor: Muckraking hypocrite.
Football’s most risible muckraker, The Guardian’s North East football correspondent, Louise Taylor, has declared war on football supporters with computers who have the nerve to queer her own pitch; spreading specious tittle tattle and general nastiness about virtually anyone associated with Newcastle United football club.

Obviously distressed by the competition, her latest piece of astoundingly hypocritical venom is entitled “Blog standard lies in the gutter”. It concentrates on Louise’s latest hobby horse, the alleged incident between Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor and also a recent rumour about Aston Villa’s manager, Martin O’Neill which have allegedly been doing the rounds on Aston Villa sites recently. I’ll leave that section for the Villa fans to get furious about, and concentrate on the latest chapter of Taylor’s hateful screed about Newcastle United, it’s staff and it’s supporters.

After casually describing football supporters (her own readers) and the ‘web as an “increasingly noxious mix” who should have their fingers taped together every time they go near a keyboard, she then smears us all by association with the tags of racism and homophobia. As she has in all her stories in the past few weeks, she then moves on to her own latest smear story, which she simply will not shut up about, her mischief making about the “ALLEGED altercation” between Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor. In what could be a remarkably accurate description of her own jaundiced drivel, she rants: (more…)
