A tough Turkish test for the Magpies this evening!Date: Saturday, 21st July. Venue: Sonnenseestadion, Am Sportplatz 1, 7323 Ritzing, Austria. Kick off: 7pm local time / 6pm UK time Referee: Paul Petho. UK TV: Live on ESPN UK.
Hello, good evening and welcome to our latest “match banter” feature, which this time sees Newcastle United facing the Turkish giants of Fenerbahçe.
Known as the “Yellow Canaries” in their native Turkey, the Istanbul side, who were last years runners up in the Turkish Super Lig should provide a tough Turkish test for the Magpies in the run up to the Premiership (and Europa League) season.
For more background to the game, I prepared a pre season guide for Toon fans some time ago, however since the time of writing, the news has been that the venue has been changed from Káposztás Utcai Stadion in Sopron, Hungary, and will now be taking place at the Sonnenseestadion, Ritzing, Austria, which is the home of SC Ritzing. The millionaire playboys take on AS Monaco this evening.Date: Monday, 16th July Venue: Hacker-Pschoor Arena, Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany. Kick off: 7pm local time / 6pm UK time. UK TV: ESPN.
Good evening and welcome to our latest, and probably one of our last “match banter” features, this time for this evening’s pre season friendly against the millionaire playboys of AS Monaco, to be played at the Hacker-Pschoor Arena, Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany.
Although Monaco are fallen giants, having gone from being former Champions League finalists to being relegated from France’s Ligue 1 in 2011, like ourselves they now have another “Silver Supremo,” Claudio “Tinkerman” Rainieri to rescue their fortunes now, and this should provide a far stiffer test than our last pre season game against German third tier side, Chemnitzer. Having written that, the Saxon sausage munchers did beat us 1 – 0 in that game! However we should see more of the big guns trotting out for this one so we’ll see what happens. On the subject of big guns, one aging giant in the Monaco side will be 36 year old ex France midfielder, Ludovic Giuly, who has has enjoyed a glittering career at Lyon, Monaco, Barcelona, Roma and Paris St Germain, before he returned to Monaco for what will almost certainly be his last hurrah in 2011. A very exciting climax for Geordies everywhere!Venue: Goodison Park, Walton, Liverpool Date: Sunday, 13th May, 2012. Kick-Off: 3pm. Referee: Andre Marriner (Sheldon, West Midlands). UK TV: None.
Well, it’s that time of the year again!
The Premiership has finally reached it’s climax for another season as Newcastle United face tricky customers, Everton, at Goodison Park, with European football already guaranteed for next season, and possibly even a place in the Champions League available. Apart from getting a win against the Toffees today, things are somewhat out of our control on that one though – Tottenham would also have to lose against Fulham, with Chelsea also losing the Champions League final. Either that or both Tottenham and Arsenal will have to lose their games to make things certain today. It’s all very exciting anyway, so let’s all climax together! (more…)
Man City - Football club or Gay night?Venue: St James’ Park. Date: Sun 06th May 2012. Kick-Off: 1:30pm. Referee: Howard Webb. TV: Sky Sports 1.
Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our latest “match banter” feature, this time for the game against the only club to be named after a Gay anthem, Man City.
Despite our recent good form, it will undoubtedly be a very stiff test for the boys in black and white as we continue our quest for the holy grail of Champions League football next season against the prospective Champions. Still, we comfortably disposed of resurgent, FA Cup winning Champions League finalists, Chelsea, thanks to Papiss Cisse and his wondergoals. Here’s hoping we can do it once more against moneybags Man City!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Magpies’ Silver Supremo, Alan Pardiola, for making my job slightly easier for this post by naming his team yesterday, the same one as last time against Chelsea. As a kind of addendum to the “What the managers say” section of my colleague Hugh’s excellent match preview for this site, here’s what a confident and bullish Pardew had to say: (more…)
A crucial game in the race for the top four.Venue: Stamford Bridge, London. Date: Weds, 2nd May, 2012. Kick-Off: 7.45pm. Referee: Mark Halsey (Lancashire). UK TV: None.
Good evening Geordies, and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this evening’s Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge.
With a possible Champions League place still up for grabs despite our recent defeat at Wigan, to say that this game was important would be an understatement, with only a point separating Tottenham, ourselves and this evening’s opponents in the race for fourth place. Of course, Chelsea themselves could make it academic if they go and win their Champions League final against the sausagemunchers of Bayern Munich, in which case, it would only be the top three and Chelsea who go through. Even so though, it isn’t since the days of Bobby Robson since we had a genuine chance of getting a Champions League place at this stage of the season. (more…)
