A.S. Monaco vs Newcastle United pre season match banter!

A.S. Monaco v Newcastle United.
The millionaire playboys take on AS Monaco this evening.
Date: Monday, 16th July
Venue: Hacker-Pschoor Arena, Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany.
Kick off: 7pm local time / 6pm UK time.
UK TV: ESPN.

Good evening and welcome to our latest, and probably one of our last “match banter” features, this time for this evening’s pre season friendly against the millionaire playboys of AS Monaco, to be played at the Hacker-Pschoor Arena, Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany.

Although Monaco are fallen giants, having gone from being former Champions League finalists to being relegated from France’s Ligue 1 in 2011, like ourselves they now have another “Silver Supremo,” Claudio “Tinkerman” Rainieri to rescue their fortunes now, and this should provide a far stiffer test than our last pre season game against German third tier side, Chemnitzer. Having written that, the Saxon sausage munchers did beat us 1 – 0 in that game! However we should see more of the big guns trotting out for this one so we’ll see what happens. On the subject of big guns, one aging giant in the Monaco side will be 36 year old ex France midfielder, Ludovic Giuly, who has has enjoyed a glittering career at Lyon, Monaco, Barcelona, Roma and Paris St Germain, before he returned to Monaco for what will almost certainly be his last hurrah in 2011.

For more pre match guff, I did write a two part guide for the games in our pre season campaign, including this one. The game will be broadcast live in the UK on ESPN, but I will also endeavour to post some links for the game for those who can’t get it otherwise. I will also try to get some team sheets posted if/when they become available.

Howay the lads!

  1. it looks like you have to make an account for wizwig.tv, is there any other website that will be showing the game anyone?

“it looks like you have to make an account for wizwig.tv”

You don’t, SK, they have the link for game streams on other sites. They’re up there now. They may have some which are for betting sites which may require registration, but they also have links for streams on other sites where you don’t have to be a member at all.

The best quality ones are usually for Sopcast though, which is easy to download. I’ll post a link for that too.

  3. Good work on the links lads, i’m gonna try some now…

    -Santon—–Simpson——Williamson—–Jonas-

    -Amalfitano——Abeid——-Bigi——-Sammy-

    —————–Shola——Ba——————

  4. thanks workyticket you’ve been a big help, also thanks bob, I appreciate you posting the link as well, lets get a win today!! I missed the last game so im excited about this evenings game

“thanks workyticket you’ve been a big help”

    Nee botha SK.

If you don’t have Sopcast, I would recommend downloading that from the link I’ve posted above. Nearly all of the “Flash” ones are a bit dodgy nowadays and annoy the hell out of you with ads which keep sprouting up over the top of the action if you don’t have an ad stopper. Some of the links can be a dodgy too and contain Trojans and such so be careful! You don;t get that with the Sopcast links, which is why I keep banging on about them.

  6. Tinkerman’s team with 4 wins in pre season already, ahead of us in terms of preparation ?

  7. I thought Pardew went to the Euro’s where it was evident how old and outdated this shite system is. Shame as we looked a better team towards the end of the season playing in a flowing, interchanging system. It will always be flat 4-4-2 over anything else, where HBA and Cabaye are more influential and better suited in a 4-3-3.

Oh well, better hope HBA strengthens his right peg for next season, get those long diagonals perfected.

  8. If this is one ov your last Worky i wish you well in the future no matter what you do mate.i for one appriciate all you have done on this blog,so cheerz for all your effort, research n time.it’ll be a big miss as i enjoy popping on here reading n sometimes discussing your articles.hope you change your mind tho n keep going, even if its a article a week..good luck whatever you decide tho mate.
I was looking at Debuchys twitter account last night and in his profile he has already got Newcastle written down.lets hope we can get that deal done quickly n crack on wiv acouple more decent additions to the 1st team squad.cant see Carroll fitting in now,he’s been replaced n we have moved on,for the better in my opinion.anyway for that money plus his wages surely theres better, cheaper options out there.
Fancy a 2-1 toon win tonight wiv Amilfitano getting his 1st for the club.TTBWA

You’d think if we have two big men up front we’d make every effort to feed the wide men or full backs ?

    Thanks Jack, that’s really appreciated.

On the Debuchy Twitta, if it’s the one I’m thinking of, it isn’t a genuine Debuchy page and it’s been picking up thousands of followers since the Toon saga began, especially so since “that” tweet!

    “We seem to be struggling”

Early days JB. See what hoofing it does for you ! :)

  13. changes for 2nd half ?

Simmo at RB Colo in at CB and Santon to LB
    Bigi and Tiote as DM’s
    Jonas Vuckic and Marveaux
    Ba up front

  14. Early days but Amalfitano doesn’t look like he’s comfortable. I thought he was a centre mid. Jonas is also better off as a centre mid if you look at his performances there last season. I think Marveaux is the only ‘winger’ who looks comfortable in a 4 man mid. HBA looks better in an attacking three and Obertan looks better in the reserves…

Shane ferguson looks a Pardew type of player. Run down the line and cross. Hope he gets more of a chance next season.

  15. Jimbob says:

“and Obertan looks better in the reserves…”

aye as long as it’s not our reserves :)

  16. “The blow has been softened by the news that French right-back Mathieu Debuchy has arrived on Tyneside to complete his much mooted transfer from Lille, according to popular Newcastle fanblog The Mag.

The 26-year-old is a France international and played every game at Euro 2012. The attacking full-back was coveted by Chelsea but has opted to join Newcastle after speaking to international teammate Yohan Cabaye, also formerly of Lille”

Not that phony Debuchy site on Twitta again, surely? The Irish Indepedent mentioned it in a story, and Ed on .com

  18.

Caught offside got it from the Mag, who got it from the Irish Independent who probably got it from Ed who got it from that Debuchy Twitta which isn’t a Dubuchy Twitta?

    We’ll see.

“Obertan LETHAL like new player ”

Just as if he’d never been away :)

  20. As Stewart Robson said “Difficult to see a pattern of play” but its early days. Lessope Pardwho gets his brain into gear and starts to think about a patterns that the whole club can adopt not just the first team.

  21. The first couple of games are obviously fitness oriented against lower league clubs. A run out!
Can’t recognize a system with that many subs like.
Though the initial second half set up seemed more like a 4231.
    Better teams coming up next!

  22. Impressive atmosphere at Portland Timbers/LAG game sounds like a real European game !

Kris Boyd (remember him ?) gets their first goal.

    “Kris Boyd (remember him ?)”

It’s only last year that he was playing for Forest, Andy.

  24. Just a quick observation, thought the new guys played well. Amalfitano looked pretty lively, didn’t stop running. Bigi looked like Tiote light, played a solid game. Sammy played well on th wing. Wasn’t impressed with Shola(nothing new), and Abeid looked like he had a bit of trouble. Just my thoughts.

  25. Currently watching Lille Benfica 2nd half, Kalou’s debut and no sign of Debuchy. Could still be on his Euro break though ?
