Chelsea vs Newcastle United match banter!

Chelsea v Newcastle United.
A crucial game in the race for the top four.
Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.
Date: Weds, 2nd May, 2012.
Kick-Off: 7.45pm.
Referee: Mark Halsey (Lancashire).
UK TV: None.

Good evening Geordies, and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this evening’s Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge.

With a possible Champions League place still up for grabs despite our recent defeat at Wigan, to say that this game was important would be an understatement, with only a point separating Tottenham, ourselves and this evening’s opponents in the race for fourth place. Of course, Chelsea themselves could make it academic if they go and win their Champions League final against the sausagemunchers of Bayern Munich, in which case, it would only be the top three and Chelsea who go through. Even so though, it isn’t since the days of Bobby Robson since we had a genuine chance of getting a Champions League place at this stage of the season.

Anyway, for all the pre match info in the run up to this game, you could always check out our match preview for all the stats, team news, what the managers have been saying in the run up to the game and so on. As usual, we shall also be putting up the team sheets for the game when they become available, as well as posting highlights shortly after the game, a match report and even a full match video if available so stay tuned!

Howay the Lads!

  1. The lads are hungry, salt n pepper shakers at the ready its dinner time.chelsea en crut.

  2. Well, should be an interesting game, depending of course what kind of team AP puts out.
Hopefully he will not revert to his earlier in the season, eight men defending so called 4-4-2.
Rather see us attempt to play an attractive attacking style, similar to the Bolton and Stoke games, though i realise Chelsea are not a route one side.
Hell there’s no pressure on us, we are expected to be beaten, and regardless we have qualified for the uefa tournament with a fourth place finish gradually receeding.
Soh ! a late lunch, combined with a few cold Amstel’s and the game, perfect afternoon.

“Hopefully he will not revert to his earlier in the season, eight men defending so called 4-4-2.”

Well it says 4-2-3-1 on the club site, so you can probably rule that one out, Chuck. :-)

  4. Dont panic just yet Chuck :)

  5. So we match up this evening ?

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Jose Bosingwa, Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry (c), Ryan Bertrand; John Obi Mikel, Raul Meireles; Ramires, Florent Malouda, Daniel Sturridge; Fernando Torres

Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Ashley Cole, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Juan Mata, Salomon Kalou, Didier Drogba

  6. Going to be a very very hard game 2nyt! We wudov had better chance if had shola playing centre half instead of useless williamson! Fingers crossed mansfield come in for him in summer.

  7. Looking forward to tonight’s game, and now I have more faith seeing they’re starting line up.

“So we match up this evening ?”

As I wrote above, if it’s from the club site, it’s probably wrong, as it has been most times in the recent past. It said 4-2-3-1 last time.

  9. I remember Sturridge tormenting us back at our place. Of course I also remember the Luiz red that never was.

  10. Glad to see Perchinio in the side. Williamson needs an Iron Mike performance not a Soft Willie!

  11. 4-4-2 it is Chuck methinks Pardwho is clinging on to the Man U victory formula ?

  12. Just waiting for all the “he should have played 433” comments IF we don’t win. 442 seems to have worked very well so far in a game most probably thought we would lose or at best draw after the Wigan game.

  13. Lets hope that isnt our “half performance” ?

They have some options on the bench including Mata but we’ve got Sylvain of course :)

  14. Probably a good idea to play the 4-4-2, they must have spent the week training for the 4-3-3. I expect them to change things 2nd half.

  15. Just watched Ba’s shot against the crossbar, you could hear it all the way back in SJP :)

    Spuds 1 up :(

  16. Brilliant first half we deserve the lead. Poor Demba just inches away. Messi has just broken the world record for most goals in a season!

  17. Whats that now, three players off injured thanks to Chelsea this season? dirty bastids.

  18. Tony Gayle “Tiote would probably go for at least three or four times the £3.5m Newcastle paid for him”

    Try ten times Tony !

  19. Bolton scores. As it stands we are back to 4th!

Just hope that Raylor can do a good job now Tiote is off.

  20. Chelsea not happy with Ba going down. Suppose they don’t remember Drogba vs Barca.

  21. If we leave 2 strikers up top we’re “continuing to gamble”. If we took one off we’d be “risking it by inviting on pressure”. Commentators.

  22. Gayle again “Obertan a bit of a disappointment so far”

How big is a bit ?

  23. Goal of the season. Signing of the season. Striker of the season. Team of the season!!!!

“Sorry Crouch. Best goal this season. Amazing.”

What about Benny at Blackburn, Jimbob?

  25. All his competition for signing of the season are in our squad. Oh wait, I forgot: Scott Parker has been a revelation…*rolls eyes*

He’s made it possible to completely overlook Jelavic, who’s doing very well for Everton.

  26. I’m at work; can’t watch. Cisse’s second is actually comprable to Benny’s magical effort at Rovers? Get them highlights up quick!

  27. Err sorry, the goal against Rovers was very nice but the transcendant one was v. Bolton.

“Cisse’s second is actually comprable to Benny’s magical effort at Rovers?”

In a different way, tunyc. Curve and power on the shot was just incredible.

  29. I’m gonna watch that goal so many times. We we’re 6/1 to win here tonight.

  30. Worky… I honestly cannot remember a season where we’ve scored so many crackers.

OK… Cisse strike of the season.

    HBA… Goal of the season…

The way Cisse sliced it with the outside, unreal.

Whoa Cisse tell me how did you score that goal :)

  32. That’s what they get for playing a European selection (just like the red mancs).

  33. That was the definitely the best goal I ever saw in any season, sheer audacity!

  34. The man is a genius. What a sweet strike I’ll watch it again and again. Goal of the season never seen anything like it.
Pardiola pulled it off. Iron Mike was fantastic and Santon was excellent outlet. Hope Tiote is ok – he and Cabaye were fantastic. Not a poor performer in the side. Brilliant! We have to keep this side together.

  35. Bit worrying to see Cisse limping off at the finish. Hope it’s just a very tiny itch…
