Everton v Newcastle United.
A very exciting climax for Geordies everywhere!
Venue: Goodison Park, Walton, Liverpool
Date: Sunday, 13th May, 2012.
Kick-Off: 3pm.
Referee: Andre Marriner (Sheldon, West Midlands).
UK TV: None.

Well, it’s that time of the year again!

The Premiership has finally reached it’s climax for another season as Newcastle United face tricky customers, Everton, at Goodison Park, with European football already guaranteed for next season, and possibly even a place in the Champions League available. Apart from getting a win against the Toffees today, things are somewhat out of our control on that one though – Tottenham would also have to lose against Fulham, with Chelsea also losing the Champions League final. Either that or both Tottenham and Arsenal will have to lose their games to make things certain today. It’s all very exciting anyway, so let’s all climax together!

As usual, for some in depth background on the game, please check out UTD111’s excellent match preview for all you need to know in the run up to the game, including such things as team news, what the managers have been saying before the game and so on. Also, I will be posting the team sheets for the game below when they are available, and we will also be posting highlights directly after the game has finished (hopefully), as well as a full match report, and a video of the whole game if and when one becomes available.

Which only leaves it for me to say congratulations to Newcastle United’s Silver Supremo, Alan Pardiola, for his “Manager of the Season Award,” and of course:

Howay the Lads!

Teams sheets

  1. SJT, Maze, I notice you’ve both gone and fallen back in the prediction competition again at the crucial stage. You both seem to lose it when it “squeaky bum time” :-)

  2. Results not going well eh. Yeah Worky, I checked my history and I havn’t got a 3 point result in 5 gameweeks now.

  3. We concede so many deflections haha. Krul is such a good shot stopper but it’s always deflections getting past.

  4. Ah, the phanton “high boot” where the guy has stooped to put his head on someone’s foot. Fools refs at every level.

“Are there any decent links today, I can’t get one to load for sh!t.”

The ones SJT and maze posted at 7 and 8 seem to be ok for me, marty. Otherwise, I divven’t knaa apart from that free fox one by richie at 4, and that’s US only.

  6. Agree, Jimbob. Don’t understand this approach in a game where a win could be huge but a loss doesn’t really hurt that much.

  7. Worky @36 aye couldn’t get the US one to play in Ashghanistan so will have to take the dodgy forigen one!

  8. Tunyc, dunno what’s so wrong with 4-3-3 especially in a game we just gotta go for.

  9. Like that.

The lads seem to think their 37-game season is over. Feeling kind of ripped off this morning.

  10. Why are we always so shit every time the other team scores 1st ? Players seem to completely lose it.

  11. The most we’ve scored in a game all season is 3. We’re gonna have to match it at the very least.

  12. Tunyc that won’t happen until the 70th minute when we’re 4-0 down. Shola will replace Ben Arfa probably.

  13. Thing is-you’re actually right, Jim. This game feels like it’s gone already.

    Tiote needs replacing at half.

  14. Our front three can cause anyone problems. Shame we’re not interested in setting up in a way in which uses them. Cabaye is too deep again and HBA offers little as a right sided midfielder.

  15. Cabaye’s been just as much of a jerk today and nobody’s working hard but Krul and sometimes Colo. Just pathetic, attitude-wise, all around.

  16. Can’t even string five passes together. Maybe just pass it back to Krul to smash it 60 yards forward…

  17. Methinks the squad internalized the “even if we lose, it’s a great season” line a bit too much.

I’d definitely make changes at half. Marveaux and Raylor for Jonas (who looks absolutely spent) and Ba (sorry to say, he’s been awful). Move Perch up to CM, Raylor at RB and Marveaux on the left side of a 4-3-3 with Cisse and HBA.

  18. Who else than the manager of the season would you want to turn a losing 2-0 into 3 points.. Or perhaps not.

  19. A nightmare defensive effort, obviously the side is unbalanced without Simpson and the realignment of players.
Not to say our forwards are doing any better.
I just dont get it, why would you experiment with the side in such an important game.
Tiote has so far had an awful game, giving the ball away cheaply.

  20. I just don’t get why the 4-3-3 was abandoned due to the Wigan result. I thought we played our best football using that set up, and the players looked much happier and fluid.

I think Pardew just doesn’t like it, or has caved into Ba’s undoubted hatred of being on the left and allowed him back through the centre. Cabaye just isn’t the same player when asked to do the exact same job as Tiote in the middle, and Jonas is better in a midfield three.

I can take defeat, but not in this kind of manner. And undoubtedly someone will comment about finishing 5th fantastic season etc, but nobody can honestly say this performance is acceptable. Especially for the supporters who made the trip to Everton today.

  21. Completely agree, Jimbob. It’s like he was looking for a reason to say: aha! 4-3-3 doesn’t work, we’ll have to go back to 4-4-2. And he got it with the Wigan result.

Or he could be pandering to Ba to encourage him to re-sign? Grasping at straws?

  22. Pathetic display Jimbob if I owned a set of manb00bs I would be bored off them.

  23. Double sub, but Tiote’s still on. I really think he may regret that. He looks like being sent off.

Raylor and Marveaux on for Perch and Santon. So what’s the formation?

  24. Raylor and Marveaux on for Perch and Santon. So what’s the formation?

    Fook Knows

  25. 4-3-3 with Jonas at left back, Raylor right back I think. I can’t really tell the stream I’m on is awful.

  26. Yeah, that’s it Jimbob. It’ll be interesting to see how Cisse and Marveaux link up.

  27. What… I never knew we’ve never won under Pardew if we’ve fallen behind first!?!? Is that true? What does that say about in game tactics?

  28. This Everton side are shit we should be wiping the floor with these mugs.

  29. joey barton is a real fighter..what a shot, he would have beaten up whole city side if he was there for few more minutes.

  30. Can’t really agree with that, Jason. We are making them look better than they are though.

  31. Raghav.nufc says:

“joey barton is a real fighter”

Aye, we know that one Raghav! :-)

To be fair, we have been a bit better in the second half. More Pardiola than Pardew I suppose.

  32. Probably because we’ve set up second half how we should have started maybe.

  33. As stated, SJT-we’re flattering them, but they’re a decent side especially as Jelavic seems to have goals in him.

  34. Colo and Williamson ball watching.

Know what, these guys want to take a day off, I’ve got other things I can do with my time.

  35. And I have to say it’s been a disturbing sign-off to the season, dropping 3 of 4 and conceding at least 9 in those matches. Guys do look tired, so I hope it’s down to that. The squad needs to be a lot bigger next season and we’ll really need to improve at the back.

  36. Stephen in Mirfield texts: “What next on this crazy day? Tony Hibbert to score?!”

    Steady on, Stephen…

    “Why didn’t we start 4-3-3.”

I don’t understand it at all maze, because we had nothing to lose by losing, but everything to gain by winning. At least we did when we kicked off anyway.

  38. Well it’s all over init !
Who’d a thunk it, Man U. getting another title, whoa! wait a minute!
Citeh score another two, Citeh win the title, wow
    !
Certainly our game vs Everton, was a pathetic effort.
A totally unbalanced side that played awfull football, for the full 90 mins.
And they gave this guy manager of the year, someone must be joking.

“A totally unbalanced side that played awfull football, for the full 90 mins.”

Howay Chuck, we were better in the second half. The big question is why on earth didn’t we start like that when we has everything to gain by winning, and nothing to lose by losing (which we did anyway). It’s fairly bewildering.

  40. That’s an excellent question, Worky. Well, we have 3 months to ponder it. It’s going to be an interesting summer.

  41. How long is it since all three promoted teams stayed up?

Not a good year for the Black Pudding munchers (Bolton and Blackburn).

    “O dear”

At least you’re top of the league, Hoolie!

…Aye, I’ve just checked – I thought I got bugger all today but 6 of my preds came in!

What the hell happened to Sirjasontoon, he was in the lead for yonks?

  43. I’m glad Spurs and Arsenal won because it would have felt a lot worse knowing we’d have got in the top 4 with a win. Now I just want Chelsea to win the Champions league and take Spurs place… Can’t stand Harry Redknapp.

Anyone know what led to Cahill grabbing Cabaye after the final whistle ? I stopped watching at half time to go watch Man City. Was thinking it might have been to do with Cabaye pushing the ball boy over in the 1st half but i’m just guessing.

Hoolie, I was just saying to maze and SJT earlier that they always seem to fall to pieces when it’s the “squeaky bum time” of the season. They’re the “Entertainers” of the prediction league! :-)

Aye, I suppose that’s true, Paulosio.

Cabaye seemed to be very mouthy and frustrated throughout the game, maybe he called his mam a hoowah or something like that?

  46. we done u a fava today lads if u wud have got champs lge u wud hav been relegated again…cannot stand pardew hes arrogant cisses good jelavic better sirjasontoon is the reason you deludeds are hated b grateful your going to have a few more seasons in the big league

I’m just off to check whether the wheels are still on my cars…..

  48. I never saw the game today but I thought that Newcastle would have gone all out as they had nowt to lose whatsoever. Such a strong team yet losing like they did today certainly gives the conspiracy theorists food for thought… but like I said, I never saw it.

Good old Joey Barton eh? Nice to know he hates Man U just as much as the rest of us! Man City supporters will be chanting his name for at least the next 40 years I reckon.

“Such a strong team yet losing like they did today certainly gives the conspiracy theorists food for thought”

Wait till Stephen C gets back. He’ll know whether there’s a grand conspiracy or not, and whether Harry Redknapp’s dogs are in on it too.

  50. efcboy says:

“we done u a fava today lads if u wud have got champs lge u wud hav been relegated again…cannot stand pardew hes arrogant cisses good jelavic better”

Having just seen the game today, I agree with efcboy entirely. If that was the performance of a Manager of the Season then I’m a blue arsed monkey. We were awful first half and when we changed it in the second half we were still slightly awful.

I’ve just read Jimbob’s fact that Pardwho has never won a game after going behind and that surprises me ….. NOT!

I know that almost everyone in the whole of the Geordie world thinks I’m a Mackem for questioning Pardwho’s capability to win something with this club but I’ll just say that any manager who cannot alter the course of a game when his team goes a goal or two or three or four behind is not the type of manager to win you trophies.

  51. Andymac

Aye – Pardew is totally useless

It was the tea lady who got us to 5th and the Europa League

I can really see where you’re coming from

    “Aw c’mon lads!

    “Conspiracy?” ”

The Bobby Robson statue and Pardew’s last interview with fatty Lowes, and the long break without games coming up. That’s where the clues to the real conspiracy lie.

Were being softened up for something else which is ghastly. Mark my words!

  53. UTD IMO this team is capable of reaching top four with or without Pardwho in charge.

Krul – within the top 5 keepers in the BPL
Colocinni – Everyone’s pick for one of the top two CB’s
Tiote – Playing in the right position would make him world class although he’s not far short now
HBA – Talented player but could do so much more
Cabaye – Again given the right direction he could be a star
Ba – Sadly underemployed since Cisse’s arrival
Cisse – Should have had another five or six goals if played in the right position

We’re talking about a manager who put Tevez and Mascherabo in the reserves at West Ham because he hadnt chosen them yet now he claims he “signed” HBA ?

However UTD you think he’s the dogs so how about a £100 bet that Pardwho will win nothing while he’s in charge at SJP ?

The loser pays the money to a charity of my choice ?

  54. AndyMac
Casting pearls among swine again i see !
Fact is with the amount of talent Pardew has at his disposal, we should have reached the Champions league.
Apart from sitting two of our best players for the most part, he uses retreads like Raylor and from the knowledge we have, his only choice of player to arrive this season, Obertan !
The fact we failed to strengthen the defence, for this season (apart from the guy he refused to play Santon)
shows we are not quite so organized as some believe.
An example was yesterdays game, pathetic is how i would describe it, no plan A B, or C.
I watchedPardew on the line, obviously frustrated but having no clue as to what to do.
I hear Martinez’s contract is up this year with Wigan, how about a straight swap ?
