I love Pedro!Talking about our favourite Newcastle players is always a good way of stimulating debate, so who is your favourite player of all time?
It’s a question that encompasses the different tastes of people, different age groups and different opinions as everyone has their own reason behind why a particular player is their favourite.
For me, it has to be Peter Beardsley. The guy was a magician with a football at his feet and was a model professional at all times. Of course he is now our reserve team coach, but some of his skills will live with me forever. Paul Gascoigne is another player who could have been up there, but although he was my first Newcastle idol I don’t think he was here long enough to trump Pedro’s efforts. (more…)
Where are you Mick?Anyone remember when Delia Smith stumbled her way onto the pitch, all sherried up, and made her famous outburst against the Norwich fans?
That moment of media magic has become a bit of folklore, not just in Norwich City history, but in football history. If you need refreshing, watch this video.
Now there is nothing wrong with a chairman being passionate about their team, in fact it is something we are probably lacking at Newcastle at this moment in time, but I wonder how such open criticism of the Norwich fans sat with Mick Dennis, the journalist with the poison pen, who is incidentally a Norwich fan?
Now for those who haven’t been following, Mick Dennis is one of the first journalists to sound off about how Newcastle are an embarrasment and how our fans should be ashamed of ourselves as a minority of them boo the team, which they do, that can’t be denied, but it is the persistant scathing attacks and selective reporting from him that grinds my gears. Half of that will be black and white!Welcome to the match banter article that will cover our last pre-season friendly against Rangers in Glasgow.
A fantastic atmosphere will be guaranteed at Ibrox in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd, swelled by at least 3,850 Newcastle United fans.
Although only a friendly, a bit of spice will be guaranteed during the match. Rangers will not want to lose in front of their home fans, and as Bob Moncur said yesterday, it is Scotland v England, despite it being a relatively meaningless friendly.
As it is our last match, I would expect to see the team that will play against Manchester United feature at some point, and the big atmosphere that will be generated should help them get prepared for Old Trafford in nine days time. (more…)
Community is the word. It’s been some time since I have written an article dedicated to this, so it’s about time another one was rolled out in line with our plans for world domination.
Basically, it’s an invitation to get involved with the NUFCblog.org community, or with the ‘blog itself if you wish, but I’ll go into that a bit later on.
Basically, the aim is to promote and build a community where Newcastle United fans from across the globe can meet, interact, discuss, disagree or anything else they wish to do, all under the comfortable umbrella of NUFCblog.org, on our Facebook page, or on our Twitter page. (more…)
Call-ups for Colo and Jonas.Argentinian pair Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez have been called to the Argentina squad for their forthcoming friendly fixture against the Republic of Ireland next week.
Fair play to them and all that, particularly to Colo who missed out on the World Cup, but what a silly time to play an international friendly.
I’m talking in general now, not just because it affects some of our players, but whoever decided that playing meaningless international friendlies a few days before the domestic season is about to start needs their head looking at. Or on the flipside, the Premier League, who knew that this next week was an international week yet still decided to plan the start of the season a few days later, should take a long hard look at themselves.
