Taylor situation can still be resolved.

Should he stay or should he go?
Should he stay or should he go?
After all the initial reaction to the news yesterday that Steven Taylor has been placed on the transfer list, one thing has finally stood out to me – The situation can still be resolved.

It certainly seems as though Chris Hughton would like to keep the player at St James’ Park and he described the decision to put Taylor on the transfer list as a “club decision”, although I’m not quite sure what that means.

Negotiations have been going on for quite a long time now, much like they did with Taylor’s last contract, and the sticking point does seem to be something to do with those contract negotiations. Figures have been leaked regarding the wages on offer, although the accuracy behind them is up for debate after the agent, Paul Stretford, released a statement yesterday saying that figures being used were “wildly inaccurate”. One week to go in the transfer market.

Tick tock tick tock.
Tick tock tick tock.
In around about a weeks time we will all be sitting here digesting how our transfer window has gone.

Next Tuesday at 6pm (BST) the summer transfer window will be closed and we will know what we have in terms of the playing squad to take us through to the next transfer window in January.

It will also hopefully put an end to the ridiculous amount of ‘in the know’ people that have popped out of the woodwork.

There is nothing wrong with a good old rumour mind, although the lengths that people are going to to try and drag them up are, quite frankly, becoming ridiculous. Sign of the times though I guess as things like Twitter become far more prominent whilst Sky cover all the transfer activity, repeatedly, from a multitude of angles. Long gone are the days where there was only the rumour column in the printed press! Memories eh?

How are we going to do in this final week though? Chris Hughton keeps saying that we are still in the market for players, even after the imminent arrival of Cheick Tiote, but who will they be? Will they be permanent signings or loan signings? (more…)

Kids to get their chance against Accrington.

Andy Carroll - In his earlier early days.
Andy Carroll - In his earlier early days.
It looks like Newcastle will be turning to the younger players in the Carling Cup tie against Accrington Stanley on Wedenesday.

Players like Haris Vuckic, Ryan Donaldson and Kazenga Lua Lua among others will get their chance to shine as Chris Hughton rings the changes.

That should please a lot of fans, particularly those fans who want to see more of young Haris Vuckic and to see if he really does live up to the big billing he is currently recieving. Now we know the kids and fringe players will feature think it is fair to say that Newcastle aren’t taking the Carling Cup too seriously again this season. (more…)

Newcastle shouldn’t go anywhere near Roque Santa Cruz.

Stay away Cruz!
Stay away Cruz!
Newcastle are apparently looking to bring out of favour Manchester City striker, Roque Santa Cruz. Why?

People will no doubt disagree with me over this, but I just don’t see the point in bringing him to Tyneside, even if it would only be on a loan basis.

It is my belief that the wages we end up paying for the player could be put to better use elsewhere in the team. We showed yesterday that we have a big striker who can play up front pretty well, then we have Nile Ranger, Shola Ameobi and Leon Best who are of a similar stature. If we are to get another attacker I would like to see any wages spent on a smaller striker in the Peter Lovenkrands mould, or perhaps a more ceative player such as Ben Arfa. (more…)

Are you still smiling? I know I am.

Carroll's 2nd against Villa.
Carroll's 2nd against Villa.
There hasn’t been many things to smile about as a Newcastle fan over the last few years.

Promotion was geat, fantastic, but it was a short-lived happiness that got subdued with the release of that statement. But right now, at least for this week, we can hold our heads up high and walk with a spring in our step as we each go about our daily business.

The 6-0 yesterday was fantasic, and the fact that it was so unexpected has probably added to the sheer disbelief of it all. We deserved the win yesterday, we outplayed them, outfought them, outmuscled them, plus the fact that our new number nine, the local lad, got his first ever hat-trick in a black and white shirt in front of his own people will have added to it all.
