Newcastle United v Fulham match banter and prediction competition update!

Newcastle United v Fulham, 2011/2012
Jolly exciting!
Good afternoon Geordies. We’re up against Martin Jol’s Fulham at St James’ Park today as we attempt to continue our unbeaten start to the season.

Fulham have a good record against us and lead by 26 to 24 in the winning stakes and they apparently conceded fewer goals to set pieces than any other Premier League team last season, which is a shame as that’s been the best part of our game recently.

European football will no doubt have taken its toll on their players though and they’re without John Arne Riise as result of their midweek game against Dnipro.

For a full analysis, see Jimbob’s excellent match preview, but I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that although our Prediction Competition is well under way, although there is still time to catch up if you haven’t entered yet.

As it stands – with yesterday’s results in – ‘sveinstrand’ and ‘El Toro’ are joint top of the table with 23 points each. (more…)

Around the Grounds by Chris Nelson.
Some of my best days supporting Newcastle have come away from St James’ Park. I don’t mean that as a criticism of our home ground as, quite simply, it isn’t.

Being at a match at St James’ Park can be a unique experience which is unrivalled so far on my travels, but being the adventurous type, combined with a lack of time, and sometimes a lack of money or transport, means that a lot of my support is now done away from SJP.

I would like nothing better than to be able to make every home game, but unfortunately I can’t. It costs me roughly £150 for a day at St James’, and sometimes that just isn’t possible.

Many of you know that I also work nights nowadays, and that it can roll into a Saturday morning, which also counts against me trying to make the 420-mile round trip to Newcastle. So as a compromise, I try to do as many games as my time and money allows me to, although perhaps inevitably most of these games come away from St James’ Park. (more…)
