Ibrox - Home of the teddy bears.
Newcastle United head north of the border for their final pre-season game on Saturday, and will be taking at least 3,850 fans with them.

That is the official allocation of tickets given to Newcastle, and all of them have been sold. Fans will be located in the Broomloan Road stand upper and lower tiers.

I’ve been asked to provide an away fans guide for the match, so that is just what I have done. The last time we were at Ibrox was back in 1993 for Ally McCoist’s testimonial, so a lot of things would have changed in the past 17 years. If you feel I have missed anything, or if you have anything to add, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment at the bottom of the page. (more…)

QPR v Newcastle United – A season finale guide for away fans.

Loftus Road - Looks like a block of flats!
Loftus Road - Looks like a block of flats!
Newcastle United head down south to London on Sunday where they will be hoping to sign off the season in capital fashion by taking all three points at Loftus Road.

It has been brought to my attention that some fans are travelling without tickets and are just hoping to catch the party atmosphere, whilst others will be seated in the home areas. Don’t worry to much about that, as long as you are sensible you will be fine as the QPR fans are pretty decent and don’t really look for trouble in my experience, sit on your hands if you struggle to control yourself! Being the capital city there are plenty of things going on to keep people occupied, and Loftus Road is not a million miles away from some of the more exuberant areas of London, with Shepherd’s Bush in particular being only a stones throw away from the ground. The Madejski: Setting for Tuesday evening.
The Madejski: Setting for Tuesday evening.
This guide takes a look at Newcastle United’s next away game at Reading’s Madejski Stadium, originally scheduled for Saturday 9th January with a kick-off of 3pm but unfortunately had to be cancelled due to frozen conditions around the ground. You’ll be forgiven for thinking that the game was to be held in some Arctic tundra and not the leafy suburbs of royal Berkshire.

Being rescheduled now for Tuesday evening, it is far from ideal for any travelling fans who wish to make the journey and will now face the possibility of not arriving home until after 3am in the morning. I’m sure another logistical challenge wont dissuade the Toon Army though as we have backed the team all season and I can’t see that changing in the final weeks of the season, especially as the main objective of promotion has now been achieved which means we can now fully focus on capturing the Championship trophy, and 3 points down in Berkshire would all but guarantee a bit of silverware. Peterborough v Newcastle United – An away fans’ guide.

Peterborough's London Road ground.
Peterborough's London Road ground.
With only four away games remaining in what now appears certain to be a whistle-stop tour of Championship grounds, the Toon Army roll into Peterborough for top versus bottom clash. Promotion could be a very real possibilty on Saturday as Newcastle look to seal the deal at the very earliest opportunity.

It’s that possibility of promotion, combined with other fators, that should ensure that Peterborough is swamped with Newcastle fans that don’t have tickets for the game, to compliment the ones inside the ground that are lucky enough to have got one. Should Saturday be the clincher then I expect a memorable celebration round the town, certainly there will be from me as the main aim of promotion would be secured and we could focus on the secondary objective or clinching the title. On top of that the lads will almost certainly be wanting to prove a point after Peterborough’s 2-0 victory over us earlier in the season where it was felt by some of our more senior players that didn’t play that the Posh rather overdid the celebrations and rubbed salt into the wounds of the kids that played that night. Doncaster Rovers v Newcastle United – A Newcastle fan’s away guide.

Donny dog has his day.
Donny dog has his day.
A quick turn around from Saturday see’s Newcastle United travel to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening in yet another crucial Championship clash. The town of Doncaster has featured pretty heavily in two of Newcastle’s most successful era’s. Former player and manager, Kevin Keegan was born in Doncaster and Joe Harvey was born on the outskirts of the city. That is unfortunately in our glorious past now, and this trip to Doncaster takes on a whole new significance as Newcastle seek 3 points to aid in their efforts to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

As away trips go it’s ideal for a weekday evening, measuring in at about 120 miles. It’s also pretty straight forward to get to. As ever it’s down the A1(M) until you meet up with the M18. Head eastbound on the M18 for about a mile and leave at J3 (A6182). The ground is signposted from the motorway but in case you miss them, follow the A6182 into Doncaster, go straight over the first island, take the 2nd exit at the second island, and take the 3rd exit at the third island. Easy. (more…)
