Andy Carroll’s time will come.

Carroll - England career will come.
Carroll - England career will come.
Another international break, and another period of the football calendar that doesn’t really interest me one bit.

Am I still spitting the dummy out over the way my national team, England, let me down over the summer? Probably.

It could have been very different though had a certain Andy Carroll recieved the call from Fabio Capello.

At least having a player involved in the England team that is from the team I support would have given me a reason to keep an eye on the build up to the match against Montenegro. Carroll didn’t get the call, and to me that means that the England team is now just the same closed shop as it was over the summer. Others may disagree with though. (more…)

Carroll to get the call?

Carroll for England?
Carroll for England?
It’s looking increasingly likely that Andy Carroll will be getting a call up for the England squad over the weekend.

Carroll has been left out of the Under-21 squad that was announced yesterday which has led to speculation regarding Carroll recieving a full international call-up for England.

I personally think it’s a bit too early for the national team for Carroll and would prefer it if he was given the chance to learn his trade in the Premier League a bit more first, but with injuries to Jermaine Defoe and Bobby Zamora and with Wayne Rooney not certain to make the squad it would appear that England are suffering from a striking crisis at the moment. For that reason it looks as though Carroll will be fast-tracked into the international setup. (more…)

Mags v Tangerines, this time it's Premiership!
Welcome to the NUFC Blog match banter for today’s home encounter against Blackpool with your’s truly, Workyticket, standing in once again. As usual, for more in depth pre match stuff, you can always check out Toonsy’s excellent match preview, and the maiden article from new NUFC Blog recruit, Paul Reece, with his “Top Ten facts and stats to know about Blackpool F.C.

Last time we faced the seasiders of Blackpool at home, promotion from the Championship was assured and there was something of a party atmosphere. However, it should not be forgotten that Blackpool were one of the few teams to beat us last term in the earlier fixture at their place, Bloomfield Road.

Seen by some as the Donkeys of the Premiership, it also shouldn’t be forgotten that the Seasiders have already won a resounding 0-4 away victory at Wigan, something United manager, Chris Hughton was quick to point out in a pre match interview as he warned against complacency. He said: (more…)

Andy Carroll, Newcastle's number nine! La la la la
Andy Carroll, Newcastle's number nine! La la la la
There have been a few bits of news throughout the week regarding the fitness Andy Carroll, or lack of it depending on which way you look at it.

The Gateshead lad apparently hasn’t trained all week but should be fit to face Blackpool at the weekend.

Carroll was struggling with an ankle injury before the Wolves game. He played in that but he had to come off in the second-half, although by then he had already done the damage and scored the equaliser. Then he got sent home from England U21 duty because of the same ankle injury, and he hasn’t trained since. So just how he can be fit to face Blackpool at the weekend is slightly confusing then. All this ‘Carroll for England’ talk is a bit premature.

Carroll - Future England number nine?
Carroll - Future England number nine?
Most of us Newcastle fans have known for quite a while now that Andy Carroll has enough about him to make himself a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.

We have seen glimpses of that already this season. Even if you take out the three goals he scored against Aston Villa, you can still see that there has been an all-round improvement in his game.

As a striker, he will inevitably get judged on how many goals he scores, and what better way to grab the headlines than scoring a Premier League hat-trick? Andy Carroll’s exploits of last weekend seem to have caught the attention of the press, with the result being that Carroll is now being thrust around as England’s next great thing, a saviour, a shining beacon of a new era for the national team. Haddaway man! (more…)
