Joey Barton to face more FA punishment?

December 12th, 2010 | 53 Comments |

Barton in bother again?
Barton in bother again?
It is being reported that The FA are poised to take more action against Joey Barton, this time for an alleged obscene gesture during the Liverpool match.

The Express claims that The FA are awaiting the match report from referee Lee Mason before deciding if any more action is taken.

If Lee Mason saw the incident, which is highly unlikely as he missed a hell of a lot of other stuff during the game yesterday, and mentioned it in his match report then Barton will be fine. However, if Mason missed the incident, which is entirely probable, then that could open the door for The FA ta take retrospective action against yesterday’s Man-of-the-Match.

I can only assume that this “obscene gesture” is referring to when Barton grabbed his testicles and hinted that Fernando Torres didn’t have any. If that is the case then The FA are clearly taking the piss with Newcastle. (more…)

Europe in six years? Sounds like a plan to me.

Pardew's plan?
Pardew's plan?
Alan Pardew has set out his vision for the future of Newcastle United, and is already attracting criticism from some quarters for it.

Pardew’s plan will see us toying with European football with a team of home-grown talent by 2016. It’s a challenge, but why not eh?

I’ve been reading a few comments from a few different sites and I’m rather shocked that people are deeming this ‘plan’ as unambitious.

Why? I mean we are just a newly promoted team with a large following after all. We may well be sitting in 8th place in the league now, but will we end the season there? I’m not so sure on that one as there is still a long way to go, and only last week a lot of the talk was around being involved in a relegation scrap. Has one win against Liverpool now got people hyped up again? (more…)

Have you heard the latest rumour about Steven Taylor?

Taylor: No to new deal?
Taylor: No to new deal?
Apparently Steven Taylor has turned down the latest improved offer of a new contract from Newcastle United prompting speculation that he could be off in January.

I say apparently as the source is the rather questionable Sunday Sun and they will generally print anything to get a reaction out of the fans.

There are no quotes, no inside sources or anything to back this rumour up, yet it appears that some ‘blogs and forums are starting to run with it and print it as fact without knowing the full story. Now I’m not Steven Taylor’s biggest fan, and I’m even less of a fan of his agent, Paul Stretford, who is also the agent of Wayne Rooney, but I’m questioning this report and the legitimacy of it. Carroll’s cracker! Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool.

Carroll and company demonstrate togetherness.
Carroll and company demonstrate togetherness.
Newcastle put a week of off-field turmoil behind them in the best way possible this evening – by beating Liverpool.

I have to doff my cap to all the players as they showed remarkable professionalism at a time which couldn’t have been easy for them. They dug in, displayed the togetherness that Chris Hughton has instilled in them, and got the result that they deserved.

In truth, 3-1 probably flattered the home side a little, but I still feel we were good enough for the win. A number of exceptional individual performances combined to help Newcastle to a first win in six games. Cheick Tiote was outstanding, as was Andy Carroll, who never let the Liverpool defence settle, but the best player on the park for me was Joey Barton.

Barton returned to first-team action today having sat out the last four matches through suspension then injury, and he gave us all a show of what we had been missing as he pulled all the strings from the right side of midfield and even grabbed himself an assist and a goal against his hometown club. Newcastle v Liverpool – Match banter!

Calm down, calm down....
Calm down, calm down....
Good evening and welcome to our match banter article that will see us through the visit of Liverpool to St James’ Park.

It’s a welcome return to football after what has been a turbulent week for Newcastle United after the shock sacking of Chris Hughton, and the even more shocking appointment of Alan Pardew.

A lot has been said over the last week, and I’m not too pleased with the contempt that Chris Hughton was seemingly treat with by the Newcastle hierachy, but it’s done now and won’t be reversed. Now is the time for football though, and although I understand that there will be some protests, I hope that they are kept away from the players. We don’t want a repeat of Hull City! (more…)
