Carroll is going nowhere.I see the Sunday papers are reporting en masse that Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch a January bid for Andy Carroll.
There are even reports suggesting that David Bentley and Peter Crouch could be used as makeweights in any potential new deal.
It’s all bollocks of course and is just the latest in a long line of clubs that Carroll has been linked to, including teams that are infinately bigger that Spurs, like Chelsea for example. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have some for all of those dirty journalists out there – Andy Carroll is going nowhere!
You see, there has been no mention of anything about Carroll leaving around these parts, other than what has been written in the newspapers – quite the opposite in fact. I suggest that these journalists get their collective head out of the arse of the bigger clubs, give their tongue a rest, and do some investigating. (more…)
St Andrews - Home of Birmingham City.Newcastle head to St Andrews on Saturday afternoon where they will come up against a tough Birmingham City side.
Newcastle will have to be at their very best of they are to beat a side that doesn’t generally give much away, especially on their own turf.
Birmingham are a physical side who work hard for each other. They chase and harry the opposition when they haven’t got the ball and can be a real threat when they do have the ball. The league table may suggest that Birmingham are struggling at the moment, but it will still be a very tough game.
Still, Newcastle have to go to The Midlands believing that they can win the game. The importance of three points, or even a point, can’t be understated, especially with tough games against Manchester City and Tottenham coming up over the festive period. Building on the impressive 3-1 victory over Liverpool has to be a high priority for Alan Pardew and the lads. (more…)
Is Ashley selling up?I’ve noticed that there seems to be a bit of momentum gathering pace with regard to the Qatar royal family wanting to buy Newcastle.
Questionable source after questionable source has now reported the ‘news’, but I personally remain sceptical of the whole thing to be honest.
Many of these stories are cooked up with the intent of causing unrest amongst fans in the hope of us supplying them with their next story – we’ve been here before remember. This is why it is amusing me when I read comments from people who are getting all starry-eyed at the prospect of a mega-rich tycoon takeover. My message is simple – be careful what you wish for!
I’m no fan of Mike Ashley, but then who is to say that the next owners would be any better? There seems to be a view that any potential new owner would willingly splash the cash, and that same view was shared when Ashley took over Newcastle three-and-a-half years ago. See my point? (more…)
Time for Ranger to start?I thought I’d use this brief break between working shifts to pen my thoughts on Nile Ranger.
Ranger impressed at the weekend, and there is a suggestion that perhaps it was his introduction that tipped balance of power in our favour and allowed us to go on and get the win against Liverpool.
The performance that Ranger put in during his 30 minute cameo appearance has led to calls for him to start the game this weekend when we head to Birmingham City. What I want to know is whether or not you guys think he should get the nod to start? Or whether he should be kept as a secret weapon to be used in the later stages of the game to expose some tired legs?
Personally, I think his time has come. His performance and effort against Liverpool certainly warrants it, and I fell that the time, and opposition, is right to enable Ranger to get the go ahead and start up front with Andy Carroll. (more…)
Together forever?Firstly, I felt it was entirely necessary to get one of former managers famous ‘Hughtonism’s’ in the title. Job done on that one.
But why though? Well the answer is simple, and that is that the good result over Liverpool at the weekend was almost entirely down to him in my opinion.
Football is a fickle game, and the record books will show that the 3-1 success was recorded under the tenure of Alan Pardew, but there was more than a hint of Chris Hughton about the performance. As time goes on that effect will wane, but it will also hopefully stand us in good stead as we go about the business of securing Premier League football for another year.
There was potential on Saturday for the match to become a watershed moment in our season, similar to what the Hull City game was in our relegation season. It wasn’t, and whilst some credit has to go to the fans who made St James’ Park a cauldron of noise and created one of the best atmosphere’s that I have heard for quite some time, a large bulk of the credit has to go to the players.
