Toon v WBA match banter: Will S.Taylor be on the team sheet?

The Throstles await, again!
The Throstles await, again!
This afternoon sees the third titanic encounter between the two Championship heavyweights of Newcastle United and West Brom. With the two previous encounters being very tight draws, it will be a very tough game to call.

As far as team news goes, George Caulkin has been reporting in the Times that Steven Taylor has suffered knee ligament damage from the last game with the Baggies, and may be out for the rest of the season, however this story has not been subtantiated at the time of writing. Danny Simpson is also highly doubtful after picking up an ankle knock too. Striker, Peter Lovenkrands will also be out of the squad after travelling to Denmark twice in the wake of his father’s death. Ryan Taylor and Tamas Kadar will probably step in if Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson are out of the game, with substitute keeper, Tim Krul looking for a bit of practice in between the sticks too.

For more details on the game, check out Geordie Deb’s excellent match preview on the game. If you have any links for audio coverage etc, please feel free to post them.

Howay the lads!

  2. Still nothing on snn about taylor, it all seems a bit strange, why is it only the times that “know” about this?

A handy team but i don’t think he will risk too many of our better players.
    I predict
    Krul
    R. Taylor Kadar Colo Enrique

    Pancrate Butt Donaldson Lua Lua
    Ranger Carroll

  5. Toon Factor
    Nice line up there.
Shmae that Butt might play but Smudge needs a rest.
Would like to see Vukcic get a game and Ranger.
We really need to get them some playing time in case of injuries.
    Have a great day,Howay the lads :-)

    “hey,

IS the match on the internet anyone?”

It’s probably only on the radio rather than tv, curno, but I’ll keep checking anyway.

  7. I know everyone is fed up of transfer chat because nothing never seems to happen. But soon CH will have Barton and Vuckic avaliable after being unavailable for more than three months. This will be like two new signings
Sounds like I am clutching at straws trying to make a positive out of a negative

“Would like to see Vukcic get a game and Ranger.”

Vuckic has been knacked for months Marty, but he should be back around the end of this month / early next month.

  9. hi lads!every 1 is picking the line ups but he will never play lua lua, donaldson, ranger and kader in the same team i no 1 thing he will play nicky butt and pack the midfield and 1 up front. if i am wrong have a laugh at me but i hope he plays donaldson but he wont he is scared he might do something which would upset the right hand side.

  10. If S.Taylor is injured I can’t see him playing Colo in the cup. More likely Raylor – Tozer – Kadar – Enrique back line which might see us getting a beating, hope not!

  11. hi lads! i am shocked no nicky butt not even on the bench i got it right 5 in midfied and i up front a strong line up.

  12. Official lineup

    Krul
    r.taylor
    Coloccini
    Kadar
    Enrique
    Pancrate
    Guthrie
    Smith
    Jonas
    Nolan
    Carroll

No mention of Steven Taylor, bound to be bad news then

  13. If Steve T is injured I’d still play Colo and Kadar even if just to get a little more team work between the two. Cracks will start to appear and if this is true then we could be on the edge of a cliff. Kadar is good for the odd game and this will make the kid hopefully but not sure TTozer is up to the job of main back up.

    as for today

    —————–Krul—————-
    RTaylor—Kadar—Colocinni—Enrique
    Pancrate—Guthrie—Butt—Gutierrez
    ———-Carroll—-Ranger———-

Even though selecting Butt pains me keep Smith for the league. Give Guthrie a run in the middle.

  14. According to the Telegraph, Mulumba is playing for both teams which would be interesting. Their black on green format for listing the teams is in a small font and nearly impossible to read, I had to use a magnifying glass to make it out. For a brief moment I thought it said Williamson!
I hope we either win or lose today, we don’t want too many draws with the squad slowly being depleted by injury and inaction.
It is, a chance for some of the kids but as someone else has already commented, too many in one go could be a gamble to far.

  15. West Brom are in the same boat as Newcastle and I reckon that it will be a well fought game – probably a poxy draw though but.

Not sure of Hughton’s line-up there Toon factor, I would have liked it to have had more young’ns in it.

Off topic – Just read this from WBA board on bbc’s 606, havn’t heard it before, thought it was funny and worth sharing:

“Everybody please watch out for the following viruses”

The Manchester Utd Virus … This is where your PC thinks it’s far superior than any other PC and develops a complex disorder, except when the password LEEDS UNITED is entered .

The Alex Ferguson Virus … The computer develops a continuous whining noise when losing power and will refuse to accept time outs even when being shut down.

The Berbatov Virus … This affects newer PC’s mainly. The computer looks great, all the lights are on, but nothing works.

The Foster Virus …. This one’s not particularly harmful – but you just can’t save anything.

The Brown Virus ….. Just when you think things can’t get any worse, this one pops up and causes a calamitous error.

The Nani Virus … The computer develops a processor problem, whereby it thinks it’s better than it actually is. It also experiences dramatic fluctuation in performance.

The Neville Virus …. This is a particularly ugly one.

The Man Utd Shirt Virus… This one is especially hard to detect as it changes its format every 3 months.

  16. hi lads! he said he was going to leave taylor out of the squad on wednesday anyway so dont read to much in to it him not being their he said he had a knock anyway which he could be a bad injury or rest him to get it right but he didnt say it was bad just we have been lucky with injuries so far.

  17. On the bench:- Harper-Shola-LuaLua-Ranger-Tozer-Ferguson-Donaldson.

If we are winning comfortably (unlikely but it aint a bad line up for us,so who knows) or losing, sticking LuaLua or Donaldson might be a good idea just to give them some pitch time.

  18. Where is Batty today
Have you got any bets on today.
I need a winner having backed two losers

  19. just to say we should have played ferguson at right back instead of talyor i think thats were are problems might be today thats why he has put ferguson on the bench talor is to slow and cant tackle.

  20. Big Willy > “Sticking LuaLua or Donaldson on” I hope they get some much needed playing time as I dont see CH giving them a game in the CCC

  21. I definitely wouldn’t have played Enrique. He’s our only left back and if he gets injured it will have a huge effect on the team – He compliments Jonas very well.

Wouldn’t have played Nolan either. Would have had Ranger in instead.

  22. Paul
Do you know who shane ferguson is.
he is a 18 year old left winger.
    a flying machine not adefender

  23. We have a saying here in New York, First Time, Long Time.. Happy to sharing my debut post!

Enough nonsense.. I agree Stuart.. I dont think I woulda played Nolan.. he was awful the last game and I never realized how fat he was also.

    My bets for today:
Stoke to win, Leeds/Spurs draw, and of course Newcastle to win

“Do you know who shane ferguson is.

He looks like he’s around 5 years old.

  25. Lets see if Guthrie impresses in his more natural position.. I think its fair to say jury is still out on the kid. You have to look a bit cross eyed at someone who tattoos their own initials on their own forearm.

  26. West Brom have a full side out. Hope we nobble a few of their players! Commentators prasing Kadar already!

  27. Whiskey Phil – “You have to look a bit cross eyed at someone who tattoos their own initials on their own forearm”

I very very nearly done the same thing. It was my 21st birthday and it was an all day session. My mates were egging me on to get it done so I went to the tatoo shop to do it. Luckily the tatooist could see i was battered so he saod come back another time….. I never did! :)

  28. toonsy > Whiskey Phil – “You have to look a bit cross eyed at someone who tattoos their own initials on their own forearm”
There is loads of people get that done plus some even get there full name down their forearm.
My golden rule is I wont do the persons own name or their partners name unless it was done in Japanese or Arabic.

  29. Whiskey-Agreed mate. I saw that the other night and was canny confused, what is he gonna forget like? I have a couple of mates who have their initials somewhere on their body and somewhat regret it now.

Christ sake, i was going to say we seemed to have started the better of the two teams and the likes of Kadar were being praised heavily, but as i do, Olsson gets in there and bags yet another against us, from yet another seemingly rubbish set piece. Was Shola his man again?, we STILL seem to have a problem defending set pieces.

  30. I am very pro tattoo, I just think there are better options then getting your name displayed for all to see.

  31. We’ll, we’re not going to go through today, may aswell ditch the game now. At best we’ll get a replay, at worst we’ll go out of the cup. I’d rather not risk a replay to be honest so we may aswell bow out now, bring of key players and give the kids a go.

  32. toonsy-For years our weakness has been set pieces for me like. Do we man mark? Do we zonal mark?…do we mark at all?!
It looked like we had it sorted this season but god knows, maybe the quality of the opposition has helped. Regardless, it sounds like we’ve given away two weak goals to the same player inside 6 days, both from poorly defended set pieces. Looking on the bright side it sounds like Kadar has been very good since the start.

We really could do with at least getting a draw here, purely for the sake of morale.

  33. Ross > We really could do with at least getting a draw here, purely for the sake of morale.
I think a draw would be the worst outcome.
    FFS penalty

  34. Big Dave-obviously i’d preferr the win, but i’d take a draw. I’d rather we focused on the league as opposed to the cup anwyay. Thats 2-0, most probably game over.

  35. What’s the scores lads? I’m in the land of the unwashed and my iPhone isn’t letting me listen to it. Any radio stations aside from BBC Newcastle?

  36. SJT-it seems that way eh. Lads on the wireless were just saying there that they’re passing the ball around us with ease and we havent really got started yet. I dont really think thats the case, i think they pass the ball around us regardless, lol

  37. Yeah I see heads going down now…we don’t create enough and are just to flat and slow to hurt teams and beat them.

  38. Cheers Ross my dad just gave me a text with the update. Knew I should have taken my mp3 player.

Of course it isn’t ideal losing but I’m honestly not as bothered by the cup as I am the league. Like harps said a while back, promotion is our main goal and whereas a good cup run is nice I see it as more of a distraction.

    No other radio stations? :(

  39. SJT- i dunno mate, i think we have a great squad for the league, better than pretty much any others as far as our assets go in the form of Enrique, Jonas, S Taylor, Guthrie, Nolan, Ranger etc. However, we dont play the most creative football in the world and the likes of WBA and Forrest have these younger, pacy squads who seem to pass the ball very well and thats what worries me. Fair enough we have the quality and the team seems to have a hunger and a desire to perform now, which is alot more than can be said for last season. The likes of Forrest worry me though, they’ve been playing some excellent football for weeks on end now. I always said last season that WBA played excellent football even at the bottom of the league, they just didnt have enough to finish teams off. They definitly have the ability to do it down here.

  40. Thump-What do you use to listen to the radio on your iphone? There’s an app called TuneIn Radio, costs like £1.19 or something and its apparently very good. You’re not missing much TBH mate, half chances whenever we go forward and they sound quite dangerous coming forward. Their lot are cheering with every completed pass at the minute.

  41. yup – looks like we aint turned up at all today, oh well may as well put the rest of the kids on to give em some playing time

  42. Ando is starting to get angry like, always amusing when we’re not playing too well. “Stop complaining and just go and do something!?”

  43. Also, much like the league game on monday, that Dorrans sounds like he’s had a very good game, he looks a good player. 100K seems a steal

  44. @Ross: that’s what I’m using. It’s canny like, good speeds and good quality but NBC Newcastle is just a bit dodgy with the online stream (because apple didn’t think an fm radio would be used I’m up the creek!

  45. Cheers worky but apple also doesn’t like flash or java so ustream is equally hopeless! I’m using sky sports scores updater, my dad and you lot ATM! Haha

who gives a fcuk, only bothered about the league now

Just hope if it is a defeat it doesn’t effect confidence for the next game. We have a really hard gameon Wednesday, Palace in great form and are beating Woves away.

WBA threatened to score everytime they got near our penalty area on Monday – Looks like their making up for it now like.

Although this does prove we haven’t as good a squad as so idiots thought.

I won’t spill any tears if we lose – Providing we win on Wed night.

  47. Halftime team talk might sound a bit like this:

“Hey morons.. the game started 45 minutes ago…”

  48. I love how surprised people are at the scoreline.

We’re Newcastle, top of the championship table. The championship, NOT the premiership. We’re still the same Newcastle united that hasn’t done well in the cup for years and is right now loosing a lead at the top of a poorer league.

Just because we’re top of the table does not mean player’s attitudes have changed or we’re better than every other team in the league.

  49. give the youngsters a go take off nolan and smith inject pace and if we get hammered so be it. we are never going to find out if you are not going to play them instead of using these players all the time who do nothing anyway.

  50. paul says:

give the youngsters a go take off nolan and smith inject pace and if we get hammered so be it. we are never going to find out if you are not going to play them instead of using these players all the time who do nothing anyway.

Hughton seems to have an adverse reaction to pace. He’s never bought anyone with pace and considering how slow our entire squad is that in it’s self is baffling.

Think he comes out in a rash…

  51. Just when we all were starting to catch on to how ineffective Carroll is infrnt of goal, he goes and gets a goal to warrant another place in the team and prove us wrong. Typical.

  52. Big Dave-seems that way. We’ve got the equaliser and out of nowhere we’re suddenly pressing and playing football. For now, anyway!

  53. Whiskey, how have you never doubted Carroll? If Shola had wasted the amount of chances Carroll had we’d be outcasting him all the time.

Carroll only has a physical presence, in my opinion, yeah great he’s got us a goal, but too many more times than not he wastes it.

  54. Andy-i think Carrolls physical presence plays a huge part in the style of football we play though. If we’re going to play the big man/small man combo then he seems to be the best for it. When he came on on Monday night he was immediatly winning everything in the air. His finishing leaves a little to be desired for but i think he could be an excellent target man.

  55. Christ, we’re not given a penalty, they go to the other end and they’ve got a second penalty.

  56. Thomas has been the thorn in our side both games recently. Ryan Taylor is NOT a right back, he is so poor defensively it’s a joke.

Maybe recent results will get people to wake up and see we haven’t changed one bit from last season. Our team is a shambles.

  57. The ref has to be certain that wasnt a penalty for Shola like. To tell Shola to get up before immediatly giving a penalty to them at the other end, if the challenge on Shola was a foul then its pathetic.

  58. Andy-we’ll have to see the challenge on Shola. If its not a penalty and the Ryan Taylor challenge was and was worthy of a red card, then fair enough. They’re saying this is only the referee’s sixth game at championship level however.

  59. 3-1 10 men S Taylor out for a while it looks R Taylor 3 games out. Hope this isnt the blip 3 draws 1 defeat injuries happening after CH saying how lucky we are with them. Really NEED a good win next Satda or its gonna get harder to pull out of this bip.

  60. Glad I decided to save my money and avoid this game.
How many games without a win now?

  61. Ross, it could be his first game for all I care – he’s a qualified referee and has earned the right and shown the ability to referee at this level.

I hate it when our fans blame the referee for games and completely ignore our own inadequacies.

We got a good early lead at the top of the table and I knew this would happen – players got complacent and fans get, in a sense, deluded. We’re worse than we were last season, we were just fortunate for a good start to the season. I really do not think we deserve or will make it to the automatic promotion place at the end of the season.

  62. This just needs to finish ASAP. Potential penalty not given, they get their second pen of the game 20 seconds later, yellow cards all over the shop, one red, 4-1 down. Bugger it, focus on the league. End of the day WBA are 6 points or so behind us and we have a game in hand im sure.

  63. AndyNUFC – So our results don’t warrant us being top of the league so far? Funny that! I thought we picked up more points than anyone else, which is why we’re top?

    PR1CK

  64. Ross – West Brom have played the same amount of games as us.

We need to win on Wednesday. If this doesn’t get our players fired up then nowt else will. Perhaps it’s the rocket up the ass they need.

  65. West Brom are falling all over the pitch – bunch of tw@ts

@AndyNUFC – you having a laugh, at least 3 championship refs get demoted every season you daft prick, the only way they can tell if refs can handle pressure of big crowds / games is to actually let them ref one – most tiomes they’re ok but some just don’t have what it takes and are demoted after a few games

  66. Andy-i dont know if you saw my posts after the game on monday night, but i said then, i hate blaming the referee for games not going our way. However, i will stand by the fact that although a 2-2 draw was a fair result last time out, we were denied a blatant penalty for the foul on Andy Carroll and the referee was in an excellent postion to view the challenge. Regardless of what way you look at it, it was a foul missed by the referee, mistakes are made.

Again today, i havent seen the game so i dont know and yes, the wireless will be slightly bias given the fact its BBC Newcastle. They havent said the Shola claim was a penalty, so maybe the referee got it right.

To be honest, i dont think its right to say we dont deserve to be in the position we have aqquired. Our defensive record has been good, as has the home record. I’ve said all along i thought in pure footballing terms, WBA are a better team than us. But we’ve looked slightly more hungry this season, slightly more determined and we are where we are because of results, which as far as im concerned, you cant really argue with. Could we have been better on many occasions? Absolutly, but the sign of champions is playing badly and winning which we have done on numerous occasions this season. We will just have to put this behind us and concentrate on the league. We’re top with a game in hand.

  67. thank god he wont have to play that donkey taylor again butt and nolan get injured please! so he has to play youngsters with pace!

  68. Toonsy you’re a complete moron. Of course we’ve picked up more points and got to this position, but now it’s only a what, 3 point lead reduced from 12? No wins in 5. Getting beat 4-1 off promotion rivals with a sending off.
Does none of that concern you?

    PR1CK.

  69. players are losing it – might be expected of kids but nolan, smith and co should know a lot better

  70. AndyNUFC – Of course it concerns me. I want nothing more than promotion. But to say that we don’t deserve to be top of the league is bo11ocks, we have more points than anyone else so your wrong!

  71. Hey people like Steve, why don’t we all write to the FA, and tell them we want compensation because we got relegated from referees? Why don’t we all protest this game because we’ve lost from the referee.

It’s always the referee who’s made us lose 4-1. It’s never the fact we weren’t good enough to score more than them.

  72. Toonsy when a team like ours, as shown last season and many before, becomes complacent and gets a “bigger club than you” mindset, than that’s when we don’t deserve it, and I thoroughly believe that’s setting in.

We’re top of the table from the first half of the season, but you can totally lose it in the second half. Our position, ignorance, and owner has meant that we’ve had this “oh we’re top of the table, we don’t really need to sign anyone” idea.

  73. Thanks for posting the link Worky and Okkurtvargilt. This game is definitely not our finest hour! Glad for Andy though, hopefully this will give him more confidence.

  74. AndyNUFC – See, it’s not just me calling you a pr1ck for your sh1te views.

On the positive side, we drew this half 2-2 with 10 men :)

  75. AndyNufc – you’re talking shite, not refs fault that we’re losing but can make or break games, you’re point was that all refs are qualified and aren’t responsible for mistakes … I’m only going on what the albeit biased commentators, they keep saying he’s had a poor game, we’ll find out tonight when we see it on tv

  76. “Our position, ignorance, and owner has meant that we’ve had this “oh we’re top of the table, we don’t really need to sign anyone” idea.”

Really Andy? I mean really? Most fans I know, nearly everybody on here, a few players, the manager have all come out and said we need players.

  77. Toonsy I wouldn’t mind if everyone on the blog called me a pr!ck and disregarded my views, i’d still know I was right.

It’s not even this game that i’ve just started “being negative” as some people may think. Apart from the Ipswich game, I can’t recall a game we’ve won were we’ve ever looked like a team that really plays like champions.

I want to love my team, my club, but things aren’t right and that 12 point lead being reduced to 3, to me, is something that doesn’t concern the players half as much as it concerns me.

  78. Andy-it was the sending off that has seemingly changed the game, i think thats what everyone is frustrated with. We scored our equaliser and for the brief 5-10 minute period after that, we were pressing and coming forward, we looked the more dangerous of the two teams. From having a penalty shout turned down, 30 seconds later we’re back to square one and down to 10 men. If he’s got it all right, then fair play to him. Highlights will be interesting tonight, the Shola challenge in the box is the pivotal moment.

  79. AndyNUFC – wtf you on about you dick – nobody at all has said we don’t need players, in fact everyone has been saying the complete opposite
Now you seem to be the only person saying the ref has no impact on the game as he’s qualified and trained and incapable of making bad decisions!!

    jeeezz

  80. this result could knock the jimmy ruffin out of us,i know it,s fa cup but forest awaits,no win in 5.
could be an interesting time, the next few weeks.

  81. Toonsy if we were mid table or pushing for top place, I honestly think Ashley would have signed a few more players by now.

And Steve, you’re talking shite as well then. I never said they weren’t responsible for mistakes at all. I said they were qualified to referee at the level – meaning they’ve shown they have the ability to do it, but I never said that makes them perfect?

How can you even start to blame a 4-1 scoreline on a referee? If Taylor made a spotless, professional challenge on whoever it was, would there be a penalty? We’ll have to watch the replay.

We could just have easily went down there and scored 4 but we didn’t and that’s not down to the referee, so why is it any different when they do?

  82. Correct me if i’m wrong here but the sending off was at a 2-1 or 3-1 scoreline, not when we’d equalised? Either way sending a player off still isn’t an excuse to concede 4 goals in my opinion.

  83. I actually wish Miller had scored that tap in against us the other night, why can’t people just accept West Brom are a team with better conviction (and probably talent) than us? I have the same feeling as I did halfway through last season, that the club or players feel too big to go down/not get promoted.

  84. refs can make or break games – just because they’re qualified doesn’t make them good same as any other profession – ultimately we shot ourselves in the foot but all you seem to do is slag off the toon and everyone involved … players , hughton, ashley etc etc

mate if you dont like this club then go and support some fvcker else

  85. 1 win in 8 now!

Still, the short sighted people will point to our league position.

I on the other hand am a little concerned that our average performance for most of the season are starting to catch up with us and the other teams are realising we are pretty predictable and know how to play against us.

    Desperate for pace IMO.

  86. Stuart79, thank god for somebody who sees sense.

And Steve, all I do is slag off the toon? I don’t actually, i’m just proud to be an open minded fan who doesn’t wear “Ashley oot newcastle’s mint cannit say nowt bad about them” tinted spectacles.

  87. Stuart – think every man and his dog know we need some kin pace and creativity in midfield – well apart from the people who matter :(

we’ll have to see how we get on against palace on wed – they’ve been doing well lately and will be a tough game

  88. Stuart – shut up – your negativity would bore the pants off a nun

To the Hissyfitters (you know who you are) – for gods sake get a grip and be a man. Would hate to be in a spot of bother with you lot – Ive never seen suck a knock kneed bunch of lilly livered cowards in my life.

Anything in life worthwhile is worth fighting for and that is what this TEAM is doing.

As Steve said – feel free to go and infect, sorry “support” another club

  89. Andy if your seeking solace in Stuart youre already on the bottom rung of the ladder and on the way down

  90. We can point to the league and say we’re top and have earned the right to do that by accummalating more points than everyone else – however we’ve rarely dominated teams in what is a very poor standard league – footballing teams i.e. blackpool, forest, west brom have easily been able to pass around us

  91. One word to describe referee’s Call today: **Speechless**.

First Goal, I presume was not even over the goal line???

If it was truly over, then Ok WBA 1-0 Magpies.

Second Goal for WBA, I am utterly sure it doesn’t need to be penalty.

    Third Goal,I fully Accepted.

NOW,HOW ABOUT THOSE STONE-WALL penalty that should be given to Us. I rmb at least 2 calls.

    Assuming we get those two’s.

    Overall it should be 4-4.

Utterly gutted by a referee who only manage 6 games this season. And the linesman.

  92. Here Stardust get a grip yourself. “Worth fighting for and that is what this TEAM is doing”.

    REALLY?

Is it bo11ocks worth fighting for a team that doesn’t fight for us or themselves for that matter. Now teams like West Brom, Forrest – THEY are teams with real conviction and something to prove, so what does that make us? Face it, we’ve got players getting the same mindset that got us relegated last season – that we’re too good to not end up where we want at the end of the season. Hughton will have to lace up his boots to kick some spirit back into these lads.

  93. Stevep 166 I can agree with that, definitely.

And Stardust, seeking solace? Who do you think I am? I agree with people I agree with and disagree otherwise, is that a problem to you?

  94. Andy I wholeheartedly disagree – when the going gets tough the tough get going – I can see you quiver like a jelly on a plate.

Thats the reality – its a reflection on your character not the team.

  95. Andy “is that a problem to you”

Theres such a thing as constructive criticism – seems you and Stuart havent exactly mastered the art.

  96. when all said and done chris wont be that bothered about this match today, say if we dont beat palace, and struggle against forest then we can start to be concerned.

  97. No problem Stardust, I see what you’re doing there. Making up nonsensical statements. Well done.

Like I said before, i’m arrogant and no matter however many people tell me i’m wrong I still know i’m right, and i’ve had many an argument with fans on away days and in the ground,i’m not scared to point out when people believe something ridiculous.

  98. Constructive criticism? What,I should watch what i’m saying in case I make Hughton cry or something?

Get over yourself, just because I firmly stand by a different view to people doesn’t mean i’m any more wrong or right than you or anyone else.

If we didn’t make promotion at the end of the season, would you even blame anyone? From the things you’re saying, it seems not.

  99. See Andy – when we were relegated last year – as stated Collectively we were all to blame – and yes the fans had a major part in that too.

I dont look for scapegoats – weak men do that – the only person I am accountable for is myself.

  100. and going on from that rationale – I acted in the benefit of NUFC at all times – did you – or did you hissyfit and get negative like now?

I suggest the latter – shame on you

  101. Strdust,

By saying everyone who has a different opinion to yours on the current situation at NUFC is a coward really does show you up for what you are…

Have a little humility (I know folks, don’t laugh) and accept that the opinions of people matter just as much as yours.

All season I have been consitant in my views – I have been dealing in facts. The only thing that is a difference of opinion is the fact that I see a team who are trying like mad, but very little quality in the their play. You might say were playing well and have done all season, I disagree – That make me a coward?

Have some dignity – It might give you a nice feeling.

  102. I’m not looking for scape goats?… I’m just not afraid to point out our own inadaquacies as a club?

There’s not one player I show favouritism to or hesitation to pass judgement on, even fan favourites like Enrique or Taylor. I’m open minded.

Personally, I can’t stand fans that think our team can’t put a foot wrong, or certain players for that matter.

    LOL!!!

The man who refused to go and watch ‘his’ team when FFS was there. Great support that Stardust.

I don’t like the regime but I still go every game, still buy my season tickets and support the team.

From your past actions you more than most deserve the title of fickle and cowardice.

  104. Sometimes folks get to enraged to see what theyve become and even if they have valid points within their arguments everyone ignores them because of the negativity and general unpleasantness of being around someone like that. (Stuart being a case in point)

Maybe you need to take a reality check and a look in the mirror and give your criticisms in a more constructive way.

    ———————————————

What are you going on about? Acted in the benefit of NUFC at all times… what does that mean, you bent over willingly to let Ashley, the national press and every player that didn’t give a toss about our relegation do you over whilst laughing?

I love this club, but like I said before I won’t fight for people who don’t show fight themselves – that doesn’t make me negative, it means i’m not some gullible fan that will buy season tickets every year even when the club’s a complete shambles and can’t organise themselves.

Much in some way a comparison to these corrupt third world country, do you keep sending financial aid to these blokes who are squandering it or using it for their own benefit and show no intent or attitude to really putting the effort into making things better… Keep giving the support and blast those who don’t, saying “I’ll stand by them no matter what because i’m loyal and you’re not a proper supporter or have any faith”.

Quite a ridiculously extreme comparison but hopefully you’re intelligent enough to see the relevance.

  106. As I said Stuart and you obviously have difficulty in understanding if NUFC was your sister, Ashley has dressed her, fed her, cleared off all her debts just he was bad at talking.

Fat Freddie raped her, took all her cash, robbed her of her future as morons like you cheered.

You see I was reading the financials then too Stuart and knew what was happening. I kept my seats until I chose to return.

Bit of a difference but I accept you chose not to see it. You really are back to your hideous self – cant say anyone will be glad to see you back.

  107. Why should people on a blog give constructive criticism?

Constructive criticism is offered to the people you are trying to help. Do you think Hughton reads this blog? I’m not that arrogant to think that what I am saying on this blog is going to make a difference, whether positive or negative. You seem to think it does. If I was talking to the man himself my criticism would be offered in a different way, but not on a blog.

  108. Andy: Be a man and support the team, We are called fans not criticisors!

My grievance with you is your stating fact as fiction. You say nobody but you recognised the need for signings – Lies. As I said earlier, and others have said, i can’t remember anyone who has said to no sign anyone and that we are ok.

You also said we dont deserve to be top of the league – More lies. We have accumaulated more points than any other team so far which we are where we should be. Whilst we aren’t playing entertaining football, we have been getting results and points.

  109. Stardust I feel sorry for any woman (or most likely male) companion you may have, I’m surprised you don’t give yourself a headache! Honestly if I got chatting to soembody like you in a pub and you spouted rubbish about having to give my criticism in a more constructive way i’d walk right out into the next car doing over 30.

  110. howay lads,a lot of us were saying the other week,we dont want a cup run.
now we,re out it,s as though the whole world has come to an end.
we are crying before we,re hurt, like i,ve said if we haven,t won a game in the next few weeks, then will be the time to have a go.
the window is still open,we can still get players in,now is not the time to go ballistic.

  111. All I can say Andy is I choose not to surround myself with folks who have your mindset – we are diametrically opposed. I like a good quality life and its too short to look at it from a negative viewpoint.

Nor do I have rose tinted glasses nor do I fail to recognise where things need to improve, I just choose to act in a very different way to you.

  112. IMO the team aren’t playing well, the squads not big enough and Hughton is totally unproven in any job let alone one with this huge amount of pressure. I accept that others see it different. Why can’t you?

I don’t go to the matches and start booing, or demonstrating or anything else negative. I choose to do my ‘moaning’ on here. That in my opinion is better than doing it at the match.

I still maintain you were wrong to stop ‘supporting’ the team when FFS was here, it was the players who needed you not him.

How am I supposed to have a proper balanced discussion when people can’t understand what i’m saying, or worse, twist my words?

I said our attitude and league position has meant the owner hasn’t felt any urgency or importance to sign players to strengthen our position and is too naive to protect ourselves against a second half of the season implosion – whether it be injuries or teams like Forrest and West Brom using their far superior attitude to promotion to overtake us. I never once said i’m the only one who knew we needed signings.

On top of that, I said that we’ve been lucky and fortunate for the early lead at the first half of the season BECAUSE, like you said, we haven’t played well. What I actually said was that, because of what seems to be complacency setting in, whilst teams like Forrest and ‘Brom around us are picking up on it, we probably don’t deserve to be first come the end of the season. Based on the last, what, 8 games we don’t.

Not sure what point you’re trying to make.

Off subject I notice Beckford has missed two good chances against Spurs.

  115. Andy – North Terrace for a pint next game? its next to the A167 and at least we can be sure at 70mph we’d do a proper job on you?

We’ve just lost 4-1, prove it. Where do we need improving?

  117. o/t i was watching the fight in the bar last neet, little ian nappa was robbed, won that fight hands doon.

  118. OK – game gone – put it behind us and move on.
We must win on Wednesday – but if ST and RT are both out and if Danny Simpson is still injured, who on earth do we play at right back – that’s a big worry for me.
Those of you who want us to play the kids all the time – be careful what you wish for because it might have to happen – and then you’d really see the results improve (not!),
Any suggestions for RB (cos there’s no chance we’ll get a decent signing by Wednesday)?

  119. Comment 186, you said Stardust was more likely to have a male companion – Just didn’t get what relevance it had with the debate that’s all.

  120. It was just an ironically stereotypical homophobic comment. Comes up a lot in football mates banter but in reality i’ve got nothing against gays, it’s just so much of an ignorant insult to use I mean it in the ironic sense. Bit like i’m obviously some sort of terrible fan or mackem to Stardust because I have a different view.

  121. magpie 6699, if the worst comes to the worst,we could stick jonas in at fullback he,s played there for argentina.

  122. what,s wrong with gay people?i like to help them out when they,re busy, dont knock it until you,ve trie it lol.

  123. TROJAN – I’d forgotten that, but on the right? And won’t that weaken us as an attacking force?

  124. Nice for you Trojan. I’ve got no problem with gay people. I’ve not got the greatest tolerance with very camp people though. From a bigger picture perspective though, if you think about it, if everybody in the world was gay, the population would die out in a generation, which kind of harshly confirms that it isn’t natural.

  125. Coloccini – “Maradona will be a Newcastle fan soon”

Should fit right in then :)

I hera he is homophobic like you Andy ;)

  126. Aye Trojan like I said I don’t have one problem with gay people and each to their own I say. I just don’t particularly like “overly camp” people.

  127. Well in a sense fair play to him – he’s got his reasons for not liking them. I don’t have a problem though. I’m not getting into this conversation either, don’t want people to get the wrong idea and offended.

  128. andy, you say you dont have a problem with gay people, then in your next sentence claim it,s unnatural, therefore contradicting yourself.
if people have views like that, then what other viewes do they hold,ANTIFA FOREVER.

  129. Reading through this blog its hard to make out who the fans are and who are the people that feel the constant need to point out failure in order to feel good in themselves. I’m talking about a few different characters here. First there’s the hypocrites that didn’t give a rats ass about the Cup last week but now have open the floods of criticism after a loss. Then there is the ones that want all the signings in the world but cant get enough of slaggin the fat one off. And then you’ve got the ones that cant make up their minds about whether or not the team is too good for the fizzy pop league! Maybe this club isn’t good enough for the Premier League at the moment and if you need your club to be in PL then NUFC isnt it right now! Just be happy that we are at the top of the league with some promising talent coming through the ranks and without the crippling debt that some of the so called PL clubs have! Be greatful for once and just take the defeat with a bit of dignity!

  130. AndyNUFC – You mean you dont want to offend by admitting you don’t like gay people? Sounds like that to me.

  131. Nathandio if you’re pointing out me i’ll happily address anything you disagree about.

And Toonsy aye funny one but nah just leave it, I can’t stand ignorant people, racists, homophobes, so I don’t want to get into such a conversation where my opinion isn’t actually understood properly and therefore twisted.

Off for grub and a shower, be back on in half an hour.

  132. Some of the match reports are saying that Pancrate was ineffective again.
We have a real problem on the right side.

  133. Andy if i wanted to pick a bone with you i would have pointed you out by name but i did say several characters! You just seem to have taken it a bit too personally! Enjoy your tea.

  134. TGS our right side was nearly non-existent on monday night IMO. Pancrate seems to have really hit bad form after his initial goal – maybe it just raised too much expectation of him.

  135. Nah not getting aggro Nathandio just I thought I might have fitted nicely into some of the character descriptions before, and i’m not unreasonable, i’ll always have a civil debate about opposing viewpoints when possible.

  136. Andy – Or maybe Pancrate was happy to try his heart out ti get a contract and now he can’t be bothered? Not getting at him as he may need time to settle etc, but it works both ways. If he wants/needs time to settle then he’ll have to show effort and willing at the same time.

  137. I havn’t seen much of Leeds this season, but the 2 games so far against Man Utd and Leeds I’ve been really impressed.

  138. No probs Andy to be honest from what i can tell everyone just seems pee’d off with the defeat… Cup or not no one likes to loose! Lets just get back on track and finish the league in a good position!
    HWTL

  139. Could well be the case Toonsy, and personally, I think if Hughton looked at the facts – he’s a 29 year old striker/winger with a lot of stints at ‘lower’ clubs and not exactly a prolific profile the game… you really have to be sure on him before signing him up and paying wages that could have went to a different signing. Unfortunately maybe he’s just a character that shows initial promise then drops off for whatever reason.

  140. Leeds Utd play well away even 2-1 down now. They are fighting hard.

    Well organise, tight marking

  141. Accurate comment from NUFC.Com –
“Suspension and injuries now weaken us further for Wednesday’s visit of Crystal Palace and our squad’s defensive frailties now look critical.”

  143. Is it me or does anyone agree that both Smithy and Nolan look knackered, like Geremi, no legs.
It is beginning to concern me that any passing and moving side will quite easily be able to outplay us in the coming weeks.
February could be the definitive month…….

“Get Grayson over here, bring Becks and Snodgrass with him”

Or buy that masssive Swedish West Brom defender who’s knacked us twice in a row now.

  145. TGS, both are good players though. If Nolan was employed in a supporting striker role at home games and deeper away, with a quick, nifty creative mid like Emre-esque in front of them we’d have a really good trio there.

  146. AndyNUFC,
I would like to see us go for someone like Wayne Routledge at QPR, but can’t see it happening under Ashley.
It really riles me to think that a 5m outlay would virtually guarantee us promotion, Ashley is an absolute fool if he does not invest in players.

  147. lads,
do we not have at least 6 million to invest this january because of the advertisement money sports direct owe the club? also all the money we have made from players being sold must mean we have more than enough to sign a couple as its desperatley needed….just like this time last year but ashley doesnt seem to learn from his mistakes.

poor poor result today it must be said. we failed at 3 attempts to beat our promotion rivals…..they seem to have far far more pace and creativity than us and look far more equipped for the 2nd half of the season and potentially the prem. very worrying run of results in my opinion. disapointing to see performances drop from the likes of smith, ameobi, guthrie et all recently

Looks like Andy got gang banged.
Stardy could`nt resist a bit of bullying, with the usual Dickensian jargon, gotta quit reading those nineteenth century “English Novels” Stardy.
Soh! we got our asses kicked, by our closest rivals with a Forest side steadily climbing the league just behind. Things dont bode well, with both Shola and Taylor out injured, perhaps for the season.
Ashleys refusal to spend could be the reason for another season, in the fizzy, he`s renown for taking a gamble.
and to stay down without the parachute money, a possible loss of PL quality players and poorer attendance figures, could make it even more difficult to find a way back, ah well your decision Mr. Ashley.
