Following on from the Coventry game thread, I thought it would be a good idea to put up another article for the Barnsley game, that you can just use for the match banter. This time yours truly will be in attendance but not all Toon fans are lucky enough to be there, even if there are 7,000 mad bastards making the trip. Particularly some of our fans farther afield. So this can be the place to come together during the match and p*ss and moan, as we usually do.

And if anyone can find radio, video links etc to the game for people who don’t have it, I’m sure that would be appreciated. As I’ll be on my way down to the game or holed-up in a boozer, I might not be able to update with team news and craic from the build-up, as and when we find it out but hopefully worky will.

Results went our way this week and hopefully we can just keep rolling on.

Howay the lads! (more…)

Walking in a Hughton Wonderland?

Earning the respect?
Earning the respect?
‘When all is said and done, more is said than done’ to coin a sporting phrase, and the cliche-filled environment of football blogs and forums like this can be considered to contain a whole lot of hot air along the virtual ether. From the people who write the articles, to those passing comment via them, everyone has an opinion on all things Newcastle United, and of course we do like to have our say.

Yet rarely, if ever, do we all agree on something, but are we approaching a time when we can all just about agree on one thing? Chris Hughton is indisputably ‘making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear’. Regardless of the quality in the division, regardless of the undeniable expectation we should have of our highly-paid stars to perform, Chris Hughton has stood up and been counted this season, and has not been found wanting.

By no means do I always agree with what Louise Taylor has to say but her article in the Guardian is excellent. In it, she suggests the contradiction of a number of skewed (mis?)perceptions, during Hughton’s recent tenure and explores how he is quietly going about his job and getting results in spite of the protracted sideshows constantly arising to trip him up along the way. Newcastle United’s good form is down to positive thinking – Dean ‘Midas’ Maynard.

Mind over matter?
Mind over matter?
If you thought that Newcastle United’s current position was just down to hard work and good management, you could be right. Or you could be partially right, because there might also be another reason for it. Dean “Midas” Maynard believes ‘positive thinking’ from himself and other fans, is the reason behind us sitting proudly on top of the Championship.

Dean “Midas” Maynard is a Psychic Expert from Durham, and has received recognition and review worldwide, for his reputation for bringing good fortune to many sporting teams as well as individuals including X-Factor winner Leona Lewis. Dean has been asked to use his ‘Midas’ or ‘golden’ touch to help celebrities with albums, singles, awards, books and many other projects.

He also does a lot of charity work, including association with The Meningitis Trust, Clic: Caring for Children with Cancer, The Tsunami Fund, Comic Relief, St Teresa’s Hospice and has supported a number of events.

Dean has appeared with Westlife on the Ant and Dec show, displayed his psychic talents on the Chris Moyles radio show and has appeared live on Soccer AM. But of course, by far his most high profile appearance to-date, is on nufcblog.org…

Following from the last ‘BBM exclusive interview’ with former player John Watson, Dean took time out to answer some questions from yours truly:

BBM: “Dean, first of all, it’s a pleasure to have you do this interview for the blog and I know your website contains a brief summary of what you’re about but can you tell us a little about what you do and how it works?” (more…)

Oops, we did it again! – Coventry 0 Newcastle 2

Danger, danger...
Danger, danger...
As a portion of the football world still await us tripping up and falling flat on our faces, Newcastle United continue to do what we’ve done best so far this season. A clean sheet and three points in the bag! Tonight’s 2-0 victory over Coventry City, meant it was our fourth clean sheet in a row (twelve in total) and our seventh win on the trot. The last time we did that, King Kev was in charge over 13 years ago. Let’s hope our season doesn’t turn out the way that one did though…

Would you credit it though? We were again outplayed for long periods of the game and yet we did the important thing which was to come away with a win. Despite being outplayed overall, Newcastle started well and with the confidence expected of the league leaders. Hughton also rang the changes from the previous game and with Nicky Butt coming in for Nolan, Pancrate in for Guthrie and Ameobi back from a long lay-off, there were three players buzzing to impress. Andy Carroll didn’t get involved at all.

This was another match for which Radio Newcastle were my eyes on the game, but with our defence looking shaky again to begin with, Jonas Gutiérrez gave us some respite against a Coventry side seeking a first win in ten league games. Fabrice Pancrate appeared to struggle against the pace of their other full back. (more…)

Thought it might be a nice change to stick an article up that we can just use for the game tonight. Not all of us are lucky enough to be there tonight, particularly some of our fans farther afield. So this can be the place to come together during the match and p*ss and moan, as we usually do.

And if anyone can find radio links etc to the game for people who don’t have it, I’m sure that would be appreciated. I have an important date at an exclusive nativity play tonight but hopefully I’ll be back in time to update with team news and craic from the build-up, as and when we find it out.

Results went our way last night and with our recent good form, there’s an excellent opportunity to go seven points clear of second place and get some daylight between us and the chasing pack tonight. Hopefully, despite the distractions off the pitch, we’ll be very much focused on it, even without top goalscorere Kevin Nolan. And new man Fab Pancrate will itching to build on his great goal on Saturday.

New songs for Pancrate as it happens (spread the word) – (more…)
