Christmas No.1 for Newcastle United fans? (Have a listen…)

NUST making some noise...
NUST making some noise...
No, not top spot in the league, although that’s hopefully looking like a good bet at the moment. I’m talking about music (finally a relevant musical reference in my headline!). Love ’em or loathe ’em, though the latter I know seems to be more fitting for most on .org, NUST continue their quest to bring ownership of Newcastle United to the fans, and this time they’ve taken to the recording studio for it.

‘The Steady Boys launch their new single “Yes We Can – The Terrace Song”. All proceeds are split between NUST and the Royal British Legion. The track will be available to download from iTunes soon and the CD will be available in record shops.’

Here’s a sneak preview of it though in the meantime.

So will it pip Geordie Joe (come on, it’s inevitable isn’t it?) and his single to Christmas No.1?

Room at the Inn for Andy?

It’s “A time for giving, and for getting, a time for forgiving and for forgetting”, according to dear old Sir Cliff. And as Christmas rolls around, Newcastle’s Andy Carroll could be hoping that it’s the fans that can forgive and forget, and that he’s not getting charged for giving someone a pasting.

Specific details are yet to emerge about the England Under 21 internationals altercation on Sunday night, in the exotic backdrop of the Bigg Market’s Blu Bambu. However, what we do know, is that he has been bailed after being questioned on suspicion of ABH after being led away in handcuffs at 1.30 in the morning, while the ‘victim’ of the attack went to hospital with what were described as ‘non-life-threatening head injuries’.

Chris Hughton confirmed yesterday that he remains in the United squad for tomorrow’s trip to Coventry, although he may have doubts about his inclusion in getting him stripped. According to The Journal and The Mirror, Carroll was ‘given a dressing down in private by the Newcastle boss’, despite appearing to let the law decide on his guilt before acting.

And it would seem this unfortunate incident follows hot on the heels of a recent warning he’d already received about his conduct out and about on the tiles. He has already courted controversy with another early morning scuffle with a female back in the summer of last year, for which he was charged. And the reports coming back from Preston about his behaviour weren’t exactly glowing. (more…)

Award-winning performances from Newcastle United?

It’s already been the season for picking up awards, although of course the most important award Newcastle fans will be hoping for is the league title. But along the way so far, Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has won the Championship’s manager of the month award for the third time this season, adding November to his previous awards in August and September.

Our six-straight-wins run, included a perfect return in November as we enjoyed a 100% record in all four league games, including a couple of tricky fixtures against some of the stronger teams, and as a result we sit proudly at the top of the Championship, four points clear of West Brom in second and ten clear of Notts Forest in third.

Kevin Nolan also picked up the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for the Championship for the second month running, following his impressive goal haul. Nolan pipped Sheffield United’s Darius Henderson and West Brom’s Simon Cox and although he still looks like he could lose a few lbs and get about the pitch quicker, his ability to score crucial goals has been invaluable, and his influence is a major reason for the current team spirit according to the rumours. January sales – Newcastle United at knockdown price?

Decision time?
Decision time?
Despite another three points on the board, with the loudest cries of the day demanding the owner to take leave of his current involvement at Newcastle, the latest article in the News of the World suggests Toon fans might get their wish sooner rather than later. The paper claims that Mike Ashley is ready to reopen talks about selling Newcastle next month.

Despite the no-show of funds from previous prospective buyers, NoTW claims that new parties, including one from America, have made contact. Their inference is that relinquishing control of the club would allow him to concentrate on the forthcoming case with the Serious Fraud investigation over alleged price-fixing. And presumably a selling point would be that new owners would have time to invest and help ensure promotion to the top flight. (more…)

Same old Newcastle, always winning! Newcastle 2 Watford 0.

Pick that one out...
Pick that one out...
If you asked me at half-time if I’d be happy with a repeat of the first half after the break, we’d have walked away with three points following a 2-0 victory and I would have been bemoaning the obvious lack of quality in our side once again. As it was, the scoreline was the same and the manner in which we won was far from convincing. But following the early second half dismissal of Kevin Nolan, this result held an awful lot more satisfaction than it might have, and proved once again that winning is a good habit to be in.

Having started with the same eleven as we did against Swansea, we started brightly enough although our defence seemed less than sure of itself this week. Despite a number of scares, including a goalline clearance from Steven Taylor, we took the lead on 20 minutes after Harewood had blocked the keeper’s clearance and Lovenkrands was left with a straightforward tap-in to make it 1-0.
