Gignac: A surprise transfer target?Interesting transfer developments have been reported from France regarding Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and a link with a transfer to Newcastle United.
Newcastle United sent representatives to the Toulouse v Bordeaux match and it’s thought that they were there to run the rule over the French striker. There is immediate competiton from Marseille and Valencia for the player who looks set to leave Toulouse in the summer so we will have to hope that the lure of St James’ Park, Newcastle United and Premier League football could count in our favour. The transfer fee could be the stumbling block as the French side would be looking for fee in the region of £7.5 – £10 million, so you have to admit it looks unlikely we will sign him. However, we can only hope and at least it shows some intention on our part that we may not actually be scraping the bottom of the bargain bin this summer. (more…)
Newcastle United have been linked with Getafe second striker and hot property, Juan Ángel Albín, so, thanks to NUFC Blog reader, ‘JT’, we have a compilation video of him in action.
It has been widely speculated that Toon have been trailing the 23 year old for months, and that a deal on a “Bosman” free transfer has already been offered. In a recent interview, Albin spoke of The Magpies interest, but the Uruguayan said that right now, his main focus at this time was to a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad. He said: (more…)
Taylor: Blues Pop target? It’s nice to see the transfer rumour mill is back in business, with Steven Taylor yet again being the subject of it’s ramblings. The rumours are that Chelsea are eyeing up a £9 million move for the adopted Geordie stopper, I say adopted to halt the “Steven Taylor was born in London” remarks but in my mind the lad is a Geordie!
Anyone remember Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson? Our former striker? Well apparently he has been sent to St James’ Park a few times this season to do scouting missions on Taylor as Chelsea seek to bolster their squad with the aim of getting around next season’s ‘home-grown’ ruling – where 8 players out of a 25 man squad must be registered who have spent 3 entire seasons under the age of 21 training with an FA affiliated club. Warnock: Drumming up one last bid for Moses?Crystal Palace manager, Neil Warnock, has been giving his opinions on the hunt for Palace’s 19 year old winger / striker, Victor Moses, who has of course been the subject of an alleged £2 million pound bid from Newcastle United.
However, he was speaking of a further development, where Dave Whelan’s Wigan Athletic have apparently trumped the Toon with a £2.5 million bid. Meanwhile, Sky Sports News are reporting that that Moses is “in talks” with the North West club.
Warnock said on the player, and the move by Wigan Athletic:
“I think it’s done. Victor is going to the Premier League and I think £2.5million is a snip for one of the best young players we’ve got at 19 years of age
“Manchester City should have bought him ages ago instead of messing about, but another Premier League club have made an offer.(more…)
Moses: Another Nigerian gymnast.Administrators currently in charge of the financial affairs of Crystal Palace have been considering bids from West Brom and Nottingham Forest for talented 19 year old starlet, Victor Moses. In a further development however, Moses’s agent, Tony Finnegan, has now claimed that Mike Ashley and Newcastle United have finally thrown their hat into the ring with a bid too. Though we are not cynical here at NUFC Blog, it has been known for agents to talks complete and utter guff in an attempt to get the best possible deals for their clients. Of course though, we wouldn’t dream of suggesting that anything of the sort was happening here!
While the West Brom bid is known to be around £1.5 million, it is not known for certain what the other bids are at this stage. However it is thought that the player will eventually go for a much higher sum, with West Brom manager, Roberto Di Matteo conceeding that he may lose out to some much weightier bids before the player’s fate is sealed.
Meanwhile, the Administrators have acknowleged that Moses was intententionally left out of the Palace squad for their away game with the Magpies yesterday evening (much to the annoyance of Palace’s manager, Neil Warnock), with head administrator, Brendan Guilfoyle admitting: (more…)
