Kris Boyd: Back in the free transfer frame? The World Cup rolls on in South Africa, but as an Englishman it has now somewhat lost it’s appeal to me after England’s appaling exit at the hands of Germany. At least I can now focus on my first love, and another source of constant disappointment, Newcastle United.
We still await some signs of transfer activity from the club as they prepare for life back in the top flight, and with our much speculated about lack of financial clout, it certainly points towards the fact that we could perhaps be looking at signing some players who are out of contract at their old clubs, which is why this week could reveal some signs of movement in the transfer market for Newcastle.
Generally speaking, the end of June is the traditional time where contracts expire in football. There are exceptions, but as a general rule it sticks. So come Wednesday/Thursday, all of these much speculated about free transfer players can be signed by anyone at anytime. Players like Kris Boyd have been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle, and that rumour resurfaced yesterday, but it won’t be long before we get to see just how much truth there has been behind the rumour all along. Kris Boyd: Talking up a Toon move?We are in that horrible part of the year between football seasons where nothing appears to be happening. Not just at Newcastle, but also in general.
Transfer activity is still low throughout the Premier League, the statement has been done to death, there is no fall out from relegation, we have no fixture list to look forward to. Nothing. Could you imagine how bad it would be if we didn’t have the World Cup to look forward to?
Through all that though, the rumour mill is still working at full capacity. We have had players linked with us, and then never heard of the link again. But one rumour that does seem to be standing the test of time is regarding Kris Boyd, who is now a daily feature in the newspapers round these parts.
Rumour has it that Boyd would be well up for playing for Newcastle next season, and he does seem to fit the bill with regards to what the club are apparently looking for in their signings. Boyd wouldn’t cost a penny in transfer fess, his wages would be reasonable, and he is only 26 years old. Add his goal record into the mix and I reckon we could be onto a winner, and he could be that fox in the box type player that we desperately need. (more…)
Kris Boyd: Tooning in?There has been a rumour circulating today regarding Rangers striker Kris Boyd and a possible move to Newcastle United.
Rumour has it that the 26-year-old Scottish international has been at the clubs training ground today, with the thought being that a deal will be tied up soon for the player who is out of contract at Rangers in the summer.
Of course it could all be rumour, and the fact that it has made it on to certain radio stations means nothing. But we have been linked with Boyd back in January, although a move to meet up with his old boss at Birmingham had looked the more likely destination.
However, now Birmingham have signed Nikola Zigic for an undisclosed fee to beef up their striking options, could it now mean we have a chance to beef up our own striking options with a player who would cost nothing and has an impressive goalscoring record of bagging a goal every game and a half?
