Why have I got 3 hands?Tiote signs up with Newcastle United for another six and a half years.
According to NUFC’s official site, Cheik Tiote has signed a new contract keeping him at Newcastle until June 2017.
Tiote said:
“I am very happy today to have signed this new deal with Newcastle United.
“The experience of playing in the Premier League has been better than I ever hoped it could be.
“This is a great club and the fans have been brilliant – I have never known support like it.”
And Alan Pardew added:
“Cheick has been immense for us this season and is exactly the type of player I want in my squad. He is fantastic on the pitch and in the changing room and is vital for everything we want to achieve.
“Cheick offers us strength and presence in midfield and has proved himself to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League. He’s adapted brilliantly to the English game and I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal with us today.” (more…)
Happy but wants to see investmentNewcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez professes contentment at the club but – like a few other players – urges Ashley to reinvest in the squad.
Jonas Gutierrez has, I think, made a lot of progress this season.
In the past he has sometimes been criticised for his inability to deliver the ‘final ball’ but – as the two assists he gave in the Birmingham game prove – he’s starting to get much better in that respect.
His work rate has never been in much doubt and he’s tireless in his attempts to get the ball forward up the left wing, often ably assisted by Jose Enrique with whom Jonas seems to have an excellent understanding on the pitch.
But whilst Enrique’s future at Newcastle might be in some doubt, Jonas seems a lot more settled at the club, saying:
“I am happy here, and yes I do want to stay. My family is happy as well.”
He does however raise the same ‘issue’ that a few other prominent Toon players have raised, which is the reinvestment of funds in the squad. Jonas raises this issue subtly compared to the likes of Barton, but the implication is there. (more…)
Scorer Michael RichardsonNewcastle United’s youth team will struggle to qualify for the next round of the Torneo di Viareggio after a draw with Club Nacional
I sometimes think I’m the only person interested in this competition, so I’ll keep it brief!
Having lost the first game in our pool to Fiorentina, we needed to win the last two to be sure of qualifying for the last 16.
Unfortunately the wheels have come off a bit as we only managed a draw with Club Nacional in our second match, leaving us third in pool 8.
The pool 8 table now looks like this after 2 games each:
Can you beat this man?Prediction competition available on NUFCBlog.org.
Some people are blessed with the ability to see accurately into the future whilst others struggle to accurately remember what happened in the past, even if it was just 5 minutes ago.
However, if you’re of the former persuasion and think you can predict Premier League football scores then you might enjoy NUFCBlog.org’s ‘Prediction Competition’.
And you could win £25 (or a prize worth £25 – haven’t decided exactly what yet, but it will be that value) if you’re leading the table at the end of this season.
Basically, you have to predict the scores in the Saturday, Sunday and Monday Premier League games and you get 3 points if you get the right result and exact score, and you get 1 point if you just get the right result (but wrong score).
You can either click here to find out more about the competition and here to make your predictions for the coming weekend, or have a look at the top menu under ‘Prediction Competition‘.
Predictions need to be made by midday on Saturday. They will ‘lock’ after that and you won’t be able to make or change them. (more…)
Toon package?Newcastle United’s alleged interest in various players now reaches ludicrous levels.
It’s official – Newcastle are after every player in the world. As part of a cunning plan by Pardew and Ashley, Newcastle plan to buy all the world’s footballers, thus gaining a bye in every game because no other team will be able to field any players.
Or so it seems if you believe the press.
I reported last week about the club’s alleged interest in 7 players in 7 days and this week seems no different.
Djibril Cisse is apparently ‘on the radar’ after quitting Panathinaikos due to racism from the crowd. I seem to remember taking a dislike to Cisse a few years ago (for reasons other than him playing for the mackems), although I can’t remember the exact details. It was something to do with him winding the Toon crowd up. Although I could have imagined it.
Some of the newspapers have been reporting that we’re preparing a £10m offer for Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner, but was does it mean when they say we’re ‘preparing’ to make an offer? Has Ashley started counting the £10m now and is not due to finish until June? Or is it just that the press have chosen someone who could possibly be a candidate for a move to Newcastle – to make it sound at least feasible – and created a story without any real substance?
