Roberto Di Matteo’s Chelsea await the Magpies this Saturday, as Newcastle United return to Premier League action in the capital for another live ESPN scheduled encounter.
Alan Pardew will look to build on last weeks 2-1 home victory versus Tottenham Hotspur at a ground in which we are now undefeated for four games. This stretches back to the 2008 / 2009 season where we left with a point after a 0-0 draw.
You can’t help but reminisce about last seasons fixture, where a certain Papiss Cissé opened the scoring with a sublime flick and volley in the first half to put United 1-0 up. Unfortunately for that particular strike, it was completely overshadowed by what he managed to do late into injury time, when he smashed a right-foot volley at an insane angle past Petr Cech, securing Newcastle the three points in a 2-0 victory. If you haven’t witnessed that goal, then I seriously suggest you scroll straight to the bottom of this page right now and watch it before reading any further. (more…)
Though it looked like Tottenham were getting the better of us in the first half, it was Demba Ba who opened the scoring around 10 minutes after the break with a superb diagonal finish. However mini assassin, Jermaine Defoe, pulled things back for the visitors after 76 minutes, only for Hatem Ben Arfa to put us back in front after 80 minutes, winning and scoring a penalty for the Magpies in what was a very dramatic second half which also saw the Silver Supremo sent to the stands after pushing the fourth official. Highlights from yesterday evening’s monkey hanger massacre at Victoria Park. There are also some other highlights here.
Hartlepool United were trounced 5-1 with Shola Ameobi opening the account for Newcastle after only 3 minutes, latching on to an irresistable low cross right across the face of the Hartlepool goal by new lad, Romain Amalfitano. Sadly though, the big lad picked up some kind of knock just before half time and was out of the game for the second half. (more…)
Two evenings, two games, two Newcastle United teams!Date: Friday, 27th July. Venue: Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal. Kick off: 8.45pm local and UK time. UK TV: Live on ESPN UK.
Hello, good evening and welcome to our match banter feature for this evening’s game, which sees the Magpies facing current Greek Superleague champions, Olympiacos, at the Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.
This will be the first game for the Magpies in the pre season “Guadiana Torneo,” with the next, against SC Braga taking place tomorrow. With two games so close together, our Silver Supremo, Alan Pardew, will be fielding two almost entirely different teams for each game, and on this his assistant, John Carver said:
“It’s a little bit different to last week, we’re now three weeks into the pre-season training. Now we go into a competition format and the manager will play two different teams each night.
“Everybody will play some part. Some will get 90 minutes.”(more…)
Who are the winners?Well, it time to give the answers for our latest competiton and announce the winners. Before I do, please accept my apologies for the slight delay in posting this.
The biggest hurdle for most who entered the competition, so much so that I began to doubt my self and all the statistical data I used (including the Premiership’s “OPTA” stats and several others) was the question about Papiss Cisse’s “minutes per goal scored” ratio. Lots of you got all the other answers correct but this seemed to be the real stumbling block.
Anyway, without further ado, here are the questions again, this time with the answers:
