Julius Caesar was fighting off an attack by a murderous group of Senators – “Et tu, Bruté?” (meaning “and you Brutus?”) were the words uttered by Caesar to his closest friend Marcus Brutus – when Caesar saw that he too was involved with the murderous group. Caesar lost his will to fight back on seeing the betrayal and allowed the Mob to cut him and kill him. It was the ultimate betrayal by a man who Caesar had loved as a brother.

NUFC Statement.

Newcastle United today made an official statement regarding the sale of the club. It reads as follows.

“The board of Newcastle United can today confirm that the club is up for sale at the price of £100 million.

Interested parties should contact Newcastle United at admin@nufc.co.uk (or Keith Harris at Seymour Pierce) for further details.

The club will not be making any further comment at the present time.”

The Daily Telegraph is today reporting that a meeting on Sunday (tomorrow) may determine the future ownership of our godforsaken club. Telegraph newshound, Duncan White reports that Ashley’s advisers are set to meet with a group of local businessmen interested in buying Newcastle United. He goes on to write that Ashley is looking for an offer in the region of £100 million, a figure already widely reported. Another report however, has suggested that the figure in this case may be closer to £80 million. As to whether any of the “local businessmen” were fan favourites, “Fat” Freddy Shepherd or Douglas “weaselface” Hall, it didn’t say. (more…)

Report of consortium’s bid to buy Newcastle United with Shearer as manager – but it IS the Daily Mail ;-)

The Daily Mail’s Colin Young is today reporting that a consortium of local businessmen, backed by wealthy Middle Eastern investors are involved in a £90 miliion pound bid for Newcastle United. It goes on to say that the group have already spoken to Alan Shearer, and are “prepared to meet his £3 milllion a year wage demands”. (more…)

As NUFC fans we are living in tumultuous times.  The club is a mess from top to bottom, the fans are in disarray and we are about to start our first season outside top flight football for 16 years.

Here, I will attempt to disseminate all the chaos that is surrounding the club and show you the exact point where it all went wrong and the one single person who is to blame for all this.  Although the tabloid style headline may give you a clue as to where I’m going with this, please, keep reading you might be surprised.

First of all let me take you back to 1992.  Suede were playing at the Riverside, A second laser tattoo removal ward opened at the Freeman hospital and in February of that year a certain Osvaldo Ardiles was still manager of Newcastle United Football Club.  Before the end of February he would be replaced by a Mr. Kevin Keegan.  At the time I remember being more shocked than elated.  Here was Keegan, a footballer I’d admired when he played with FC Hamburg,  a legend at St James Park and  the person who allowed me to see a helicopter up close for the first time ever, coming to manage my football club. Along with Sir John Hall now firmly on board nothing could go wrong.  We were saved!

By the end of March Keegan had walked out.  Bugger. (more…)
