Club statement alert.I’ll keep this brief as I don’t want it take the gloss of the fantastic win at Arsenal, but I also feel that it is important enough to cover in an article.
There was a newspaper report this morning that alleged that two Newcastle players, namely Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll, had been behaving badly.
Now most of us have had our say and have come to the conclusion that, despite the headline, the pair had actually legally done nothing wrong, but now the club, Kevin Nolan, and Andy Carroll have had their say on the matter.
In a statement released by the club during the Arsenal game, which appears to be their favourite time to release statements, the pair denied any wrong-doing and the club challenged the News of the World to co-operate with police with regards to the cocaine allegations. (more…)
Cheer up Stevie Bruce.....Pancake face Steve Bruce has slammed the way that Newcastle conducted themselves after the 5-1 mauling of Sunderland last weekend.
Bruce claims that there was no need for Newcastle to play ‘Daydream Believer’, a 1967 hit by The Monkees, which prompted the home fans to serenade Sunderland with a much cruder version aimed at Steve Bruce at the final whistle and says that such a move was “typical of our etiquette”.
I’ll get onto Sunderland’s etiquette later on, but at the minute it is Bruce who is being the pantomime dame and not letting things drop. The fact he is sounding off suggests that he is hurting, but the classy move would be to suffer in silence. I’m pretty sure that the Sunderland fans will just want to forget about the match, until January at least, and will want to try to move on and recover from this hammering.
So they could do without bitter Bruce creating a fuss about it really and heaping yet more attention on them. Talking to The Express, Bruce had this to say. (more…)
The scene in a typical Mackem home. Most of us are still floating around on cloud nine after the demolition derby last Sunday, and with good reason aswell as it’s always nice to completely batter your local rivals.
So how can we continue the fun? Simple, let’s have a laugh at their misery.
A lot of you are aware that I visit quite a few ‘blogs, fanzines and forums belonging to other teams, and most of the time I go on there with the sole purpose of winding people up. It works a treat, and I was really looking forward to going onto the Sunderland sites, the ones that I’m not banned from, and rubbing a bit more salt into the wounds of their fans. It turns out that I didn’t have to do anything except read their own self-pitying remarks, some of which I have collated into this article for you.
First up I visted Sunderland fanzine, ‘A Love Supreme’. This is where Louise Taylor made her name before being picked up, for some bizarre reason, by The Guardian. Interestingly, if you haven’t read the match report from The Guardian, penned by Louise Taylor herself, you can do so here. It’s quite possibly the shortest match report ever recorded, especially for a match that contained six goals, a sending off and a penalty. I wonder why… (more…)
Emirates next for Newcastle.Actually, I would prefer Newcastle to be walking away from the next five games with fifteen points in the bag, but being realistic it just isn’t going to happen.
So how do you think we will do?
Next up for United is a trip to The Emirates on Sunday, and whilst I harbour some slim hopes of us being able to take something from the game, there is a very real prospect that we could end up losing, like most teams do when they visit Arsenal.
I’ve got the match down as a loss on my little season planner of where I think we can pick up points from, but as many of you know, my predictions, so it seems, are not the best.
Following on from Arsenal we have two games at home. First up is Blackburn next Wednesday evening, a team who appear hold a voodoo card over us and always seem to be able to get results against us. (more…)
One Chrissy Hughton?Personally, I’m still buzzing from yesterday’s 5-1 demolition of derby day rivals Sunderland.
As results go they don’t get much better than that, but one thing I found that was a nice extra touch was the widespread backing for Chris Hughton that sounded out from the crowd on a number of occasions yesterday.
In a week where Hughton’s tenure as Newcastle boss had been called into question, mainly by the media, it seemed quite appropriate that the crowd united behind Hughton in front of a worldwide television audience. It was a proper ‘two-fingers’ to the press who have been trying to stir up some trouble where none had previously existed.
Chants of ‘One Chrissy Hughton’ and ‘Walking in a Hughton wonderland’ rang out from various parts of the ground yesterday, although I have no doubt that the media will try to paint us as fickle and suggest that we were only singing those songs as we were winning against our unwashed rivals from down the road.
