Joey Barton and his latest transgression.Last week we saw the red mist descend on Joey Barton once more as he lashed out at Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pederson.
Whether you call it punch, dig, slap, tickle or whatever, the fact remains that Joey Barton raised his hands on the football pitch. Regardless of what other players at other teams get away with, what Barton did was wrong.
The video evidence was damning, and the fact that the referee missed the incident completely left Joey open to retrospective punishment from the FA. This punishment has, of course, been delivered, and Barton started off his three-match ban against Fulham at the weekend, which is a real shame as he was beginning to make people change their opinions about him. Even if they weren’t changing their opinions on him, he gave them no reason to get on his back. He could just simply play his football. (more…)
Is it a case of classic Great Expectations?First and foremost, you may not recognise the name above this article. I visit the ‘blog every day, I rarely comment but always read with great interest. I thought I’d start by introducing myself.
I’m Mark, and I’m good friends with Mr .org himself, Toonsy! I often go to the games with him. Like Toonsy, I currently live in The Midlands in a dive which is known as Rugby. I bleed black and white and Newcastle United are my life.
Its always been Sunderland or Newcastle in my family. Luckily when I chose my team I had the sense to stay away from the dark and unwashed side and opt for The Toon. Much like our No.9, who has a Sunderland supporting Grandma I think!
Anyway, I’m going to attempt this ‘blogging malarky in the hope that I can match Toonsy’s, Workyticket’s, and the rest of the gang’s good work with this great blog. But enough about me as I’m beginning to make this article sound like a lonely hearts ad….. (more…)
Check us out tomorrow! For those of you that are going to the match tomorrow, it may not be that useful for you to know this.
But for those who won’t be at St James’s Park tomorrow, and have access to radio, or the internet so you can listen online, or to Sky TV or any other number of ways of picking up a radio signal, then you could be in for a bit of a bonus tomorrow afternoon.
Nufcblog.org has been approached by Absolute Radio to form a part of their coverage of the Newcastle United v Fulham match tomorrow, and with a little bit of gentle persuasion, I got forced into representing us by Workyticket. He can be a mean gadgie when he wants to be! I hope he knows that I am the shy and retiring type! (more…)
Three games without Barton.Newcastle midfiedler Joey Barton has accepted his charge of violent conduct, which means that he will now face a three-match suspension as punishment.
Barton will now miss the matches against Fulham, Bolton and Chelsea before returning to action against West Brom at The Hawthorns on the 5th December.
As I said in an earlier article, there really isn’t much Barton could have done other than accept as he has been caught bang to rights. If he decided to argue the charge the chances are that he would have been banned for more games as the FA would have deemed it as a ‘frivolous appeal’ and slapped an extra game or two on top of the regular three-match ban.
Barton has issued a statement apologising for his behaviour last night, and quite rightly so! (more…)
Carroll for England? It looks like Andy Carroll could be getting a call up for England, certainly if you believe what you read the press this morning anyway.
Various media outlets are speculating that Fabio Capello, who was at The Emirates yesterday, has now seen enough of Carroll to afford him a place in the national team.
Of course, the decsion to call Carroll up, if he does get the call, is helped by the fact that England are suffering a striker crisis at the moment.
Whilst Wayne Rooney being out doing whatever he is doing in the USA, Darren Bent being out for three weeks or more with a hernia injury and Jermaine Defoe yet to recover from an injury that has kept him out for several weeks now may make Carroll a default selection, it would also be harsh on the lad as his on-the-pitch performances have deserved the accolades and recognition of an England call-up.
