Alan Pardew - New Toon ManagerWhat we all expected has happened and Alan Pardew has been appointed as manager of Newcastle United on a five and half year deal.
It seems the circus is back at St James’ Park and the fans are being served up another custard pie in the face from the clown at the top.
It’s easy to see why we’re the laughing stock of the Premier League.
The recipe is simple. For dinner, take one perfectly good manager who gets us promoted from the Championship at the first attempt, settles us into a mid-table Premier League position and wins over the fans. Then sack him.
Then for pudding, take one unemployed manager with a mediocre record and hardly much more Premier League experience than the one you just sacked. Then employ him.
It works every time as a recipe for making a club a laughing stock. I think I’ll pass on the cheese and biscuits.
Either way we look at it though, Chris Hughton’s era is over and Alan Pardew’s is about to begin.
The official announcement from the club is as follows: (more…)
Club statement alert.I’ll keep this brief as I don’t want it take the gloss of the fantastic win at Arsenal, but I also feel that it is important enough to cover in an article.
There was a newspaper report this morning that alleged that two Newcastle players, namely Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll, had been behaving badly.
Now most of us have had our say and have come to the conclusion that, despite the headline, the pair had actually legally done nothing wrong, but now the club, Kevin Nolan, and Andy Carroll have had their say on the matter.
In a statement released by the club during the Arsenal game, which appears to be their favourite time to release statements, the pair denied any wrong-doing and the club challenged the News of the World to co-operate with police with regards to the cocaine allegations. (more…)
Hughton backed by board.Much of the speculation surrounding Newcastle over the last week or so has been regarding the future of current manager, Chris Hughton.
Now let me go on record early in this article to say that I am fully behind Hughton and believe that in no way, shape, or form does he deserve to get the boot from the St James’ Park hotseat.
Anyway, most of this speculation has been dreamed up by a number of people in the press, with Newcastle “fan” Alan Oliver being one of the main culprits, as Workyticket highlighted in his excellent article entitled Alan Oliver desperately tries to keep Hughton sacking story alive. Sadly, that particular media bandwagon has gathered some pace in recent days and has led to certain betting markets being suspended. This has, of course, all been fuelled by the club dithering on making any official announcement on the future of Hughton, who only has a contract until the end of this season. (more…)
Official statement alert.Newcastle have asked the FA to punish Nigel de Jong for the challenge that resulted in Hatem Ben Arfa sustaining a broken Fibia and Tibula at the weekend.
It is understood that the club are far from happy over the tackle and feel it was ‘unnecessary and used excessive force’.
They are also writing a letter of complaint to the appropriate body regarding the perfomance of Martin Atkinson in the match against Manchester City.
In a statement released on the nufc.co.uk, the official website, the club had this to say;
“Newcastle United FC have today written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association in relation to the tackle by Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong on Hatem Ben Arfa in Sunday’s Premier League fixture, which resulted in Ben Arfa sustaining a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg.”
“The club has asked the FA for the appropriate action to be taken against De Jong for the tackle which in the club’s opinion was unnecessary and used excessive force.”(more…)
Ashley's intent has fallen on deaf ears.It was a noble thought, a thought that was backed by many fans of NUFC, and a thought that was supposed to unite the Premier League.
This is of course the release of the statement a week or so ago in which Newcastle United stuck up for something that was in the national interest, by banning The Daily Mail and Mail On Sunday from St James’ Park, from press conferences, and from the training ground.
It was a move that was formed from the fallout of the Lord Triesman affair, and the impact that the whole debacle may now have on the chances of England hosting the World Cup in 2018. Mike Ashley cited this as a reason as to why such drastic acton had been taken, and urged the chairmen at other Premier League clubs to join in the boycott of the newspaper. They didn’t, and now it looks like it could be another blunder in the making for Newcastle United. (more…)
