The event, held at The University of Sunderland, saw Chris winning the award despite being sacked as Newcastle manager in December of last year, supposedly for being too inexperienced to manage the club in the Premier League. He was, of course, replaced with current manager, Alan Pardew.
The judges commented that Hughton received the award because they were:
“Impressed with his quiet determination and skilful handling of what was at times a tricky situation.”
Newcastle United also received the “Team of the Year” award for their achievements under Hughton, including being promoted to The Premier League as champions with a massive 102 points.
Speaking at the award, Hughton was asked if he was “a little bit hurt by the way it all ended.”
This week, Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton won another award to go with his brace of “Manager of the Month” awards from last season, and his Football League Trophy and the “Trofeo Teresa Herrera”.
Hughton will be awarded the League Manager’s Association’s “Performance of the Month” award for last Sunday’s 5-1 victory over Sunderland. The five man adjudication panel consisting of LMA Chairman, Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, decided to give the award to Hughton, and he will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be shown on “Sky Soccer Saturday” on 6th November 2010. This award comes in the wake of recent speculation from the press that Hughton was on the verge of losing his job for not winning enough games at home so far this season.
Sunderland have recently had pretensions of stealing the mantle from the Magpies as the North East’s premier footballing side, particularly after Newcastle’s relegation from the Premiership last season and huge injections of cash from American billionaire owner, Ellis Short. However, they were given a very harsh footballing lesson on Sunday, with Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce saying of the match: (more…)
The goalposts are down, the World Cup is just around the corner, and the summer sun will soon be upon us. Yes it’s the end of the season, so what better time to announce the NUFCblog.org Player of the Season result?
It has been down to you, the reader, to decide the destination of this much coveted award. It’s only fair that we are the ones to pass judgement on how a player has played for us throughout the season, we know much more than the experts anyway. So it gives me great pleasure to announce that the winner of this award, as voted for by you and with 28% of the final vote is….. Jose Enrique.
I’m sure he is ecstatic knowing that he is now the proud owner of our coveted award, but as yet I have been unable to track down the Spaniard to ask him how he is feeling at what must be an emotional and triumphant time for him. Unfortunately he will have to wait to be presented with the widely respected trophy although I can give everyone an update on the progress of it’s construction. I can reveal that the finishing touches are being applied and all I need now to finish the trophy off are some nails, glue and some tin-foil. And to think my mother never rated Blue Peter and wondered why I used to watch it as a child, who’s laughing now eh mother? (more…)
Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton, accepted his award as the Championship’s ‘Manager of the Year’ in what has proved to be a year for the good guys in football, with the venerable Roy Hodgson claiming the biggest prize for Premiership Manager of the Year.
As is usual with Chris, he wasted no time in spreading the praise around, and claiming it as an award for the whole management team. On receiving the award, he reflected:
“I am honoured to be recognised by the LMA and I accept the award on behalf of everyone at the football club,” he told nufc.co.uk, “But with this being a managerial prize I think special mention should go to the staff.
“Colin Calderwood and Paul Barron have offered me tremendous support throughout the year. We are a managerial team and this award is for them as much as it is for me.(more…)
It’s that time of the season where awards start getting dished out, both to recognise personal achievements and team achievements throughout the season.
We have already had Kevin Nolan named as the Championship Player of the Year, but last night it was time to announce the PFA Championship Team of the Year. The PFA awards were held at a glittering ceremony in London, and whilst Wayne Rooney must be pleased to have walked of with the PFA Player of the Year award, it doesn’t really interest me so much. What does interest me is the Championship Team of the year, which turns out features four players from Newcastle United this season. They are Fabricio Coloccini (as pictured), Jose Enrique, Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll. (more…)
