Chris Hughton wins North East Sports Personality of the Year award.

Ex Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton won the “North East Sports Personality of the Year Award” at the BBC North East and Cumbria Regional Sports Awards yesterday evening.

The event, held at The University of Sunderland, saw Chris winning the award despite being sacked as Newcastle manager in December of last year, supposedly for being too inexperienced to manage the club in the Premier League. He was, of course, replaced with current manager, Alan Pardew.

The judges commented that Hughton received the award because they were:

“Impressed with his quiet determination and skilful handling of what was at times a tricky situation.”

Newcastle United also received the “Team of the Year” award for their achievements under Hughton, including being promoted to The Premier League as champions with a massive 102 points.

Speaking at the award, Hughton was asked if he was “a little bit hurt by the way it all ended.”

To this, Hughton replied:

“Yes, of course. I think most people felt the same way, they couldn’t understand that we were able to reach the targets that we’d set earlier in the season. Of course it’s very, very difficult to understand,”

“One thing’s for certain, come the next day one thing you can do is look forward and that’s what I’m doing.”

Speaking on his former manager, Newcastle United right back, Danny Simpson said when collecting Newcastle United’s “Team of the Year” award:

“He’s well respected from our players, throughout England and throughout the game, and I’m sure he’ll be back in a job soon”.

  3. glad to see CH getting some recognition, he did a good job (over and above expectations) and then got shafted by Fat Mike

  9. I have so much respect for CH and would love to see him back one day – probably under a different regime. Thoroughly deserved award.
    Quite amused by the Toon collecting team of the year award in Scumberland Poly too!

  10. why was he bladdered ?? – he who pays the piper calls the tune – ok ! but the – fat mong – should’a & could’a paid hooters off with the – compo – he deserved instead of running his contract down before showing him the door.

    well done hooters – you deserved much more than you got.

  12. Hey ! never gonna forgive Ashley for the cold blooded treatment he gave Hughton.
    What a user !
    Well he`s got someone to replace him, who`s in the same league so to speak.
    Birds of a feather.
    If it`s any consolation, there`s a majority of NUFC fans who feel the same and believe with his track record it wont be long before he`s are back in the game.

  14. big respect for Chris Hughton, if it was anyone else who done as good of a job e.g. Shearer, he would of got his new contract straight away. Hope Chris finds a good club and a good team so we can play his team and say thanks Chris, and i hope ashley and llambias have a huge apology for him.
