Routledge QPR deal off. So what’s the future for the lad?

What's the future for Wayne Routledge now that his QPR transfer is off?
Unwanted at the Toon?
As QPR pull out of contention to sign Newcastle United’s Wayne Routledge, the player will be back with the club for pre-season training. But does he have any sort of future at Newcastle?

Wayne Routledge, who spent the second half of last season out on loan to QPR, appears to be somewhat in limbo at the moment.

He was originally loaned to QPR to cover for Jamie Mackie, who was crocked by an injury to his cruciate ligament and, although Mackie is expected to be fit again for next season, Routledge was allegedly at the top of Neil Warnock’s list of players he wanted to sign permanently.

Allegedly, Routledge was available to QPR for £1.5m. QPR have however taken themselves out of contention to buy Routledge now. It is thought they have done so in order to keep money back to sign a new striker after losing Danny Graham and Steve Morrison to other clubs and finding they couldn’t afford Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith. A QPR insider apparently said:

It’s a question of budget and priorities.(more…)

Taarabt happy to join Newcastle as stepping stone to “very big” club.

Adel Taarabt.
Taarabt: Modest and unambitious.
Queen’s Park Rangers midfielder, Adel Taarabt has revealed that he would be happy to join Newcastle as he feels that he doesn’t need a very big club at this stage of his career.

The player is intent on a move from the West London club as he feels they will be relegated after their first year if they don’t invest heavily in new players, and he is also unhappy at the club not offering him an improved contract with promotion told The Mail on Sunday:

“People say Newcastle will be good for me, that the fans love players like me. It is fantastic to play in front of 50,000 supporters every week.”

Then, in an obvious attempt to ingratiate himself with Newcastle United supporters, he added:

“I do not need one of the very big clubs at this stage of my career.” (more…)

Pardew: “We’ve put a couple of offers in this week”.

Pardew: Two irons in the fire.
Pardew: Two irons in the fire.
Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, has revealed in an interview that the club have put in offers for two players, but has warned that he will not be held to ransom over any potential new signings at the club.

He also said that he is searching for a replacement for recently departed winger, Wayne Routledge, who is now on loan at Queen’s Park Rangers. However he also noted that the target will not necessarily be a winger.

Starting with the Routledge situation, Pardew said in an interview:

“We’ve lost Wayne Routledge from the squad so I at least want to replace him. I’m not saying we are going to sign a winger necessarily, but we do want somebody to come in and fill that gap in the squad.”

Perhaps it may have been wiser to have found some kind of replacement before he let the player go if he is seeking a replacement at such a late stage. But Pardew did go on to confirm that he does have offers in for two new players, and is “hopeful” that the club will get something done in the final days of the January transfer window, continuing: (more…)

Pardew: Routledge not good enough for Newcastle.

Routledge: Not good enough says Pardew
Routledge: Not good enough says Pardew
Speaking in an interview for BBC North East’s radio sports programme, ‘Total Sport’, current manager, Alan Pardew, has spoken on the reasons why he let Newcastle United winger, Wayne Routledge, move back to his old club, Queen’s Park Rangers.

Routledge’s return to the club seems to have been a success so far, with the player scoring a goal on his debut, and Rangers also flying high at the top of the Championship table. But Pardew declared that Routledge simply wasn’t good enough for Newcastle United, which would certinly suggest an eventual permanent move for the player. However there was no suggestion on who might be brought in to replace him, with the right side of midfield being a potential problem should something happen to Joey Barton in the near future.

Pardew said on Routledge’s move: (more…)

Routledge to be loaned to QPR

Wayne Routledge, Newcastle United
Back to QPR on loan
Newcastle United’s Wayne Routledge looks likely to be loaned to QPR until the end of the season.

It is reported that Wayne Routledge, who has made 12 starts for us and 7 substitute appearances, mainly on the right wing, is to be loaned out to QPR until the rest of the season.

Apparently Wigan and Cardiff City were also after Routledge but it looks as if QPR will win the chase.

We signed Routledge from QPR in January last year on a contract running until June 2013. Opinion has been divided as to how effective he’s been on the right wing but it appears he’s surplus to Alan Pardew’s requirements at the moment.

That may be partly due to Joey Barton’s recent effectiveness in that role and of course Gosling and Guthrie are now back in contention for midfield positions too.

Note that this loan move has not been confirmed by the club yet.
