Routledge to be loaned to QPR

Wayne Routledge, Newcastle United
Back to QPR on loan
Newcastle United’s Wayne Routledge looks likely to be loaned to QPR until the end of the season.

It is reported that Wayne Routledge, who has made 12 starts for us and 7 substitute appearances, mainly on the right wing, is to be loaned out to QPR until the rest of the season.

Apparently Wigan and Cardiff City were also after Routledge but it looks as if QPR will win the chase.

We signed Routledge from QPR in January last year on a contract running until June 2013. Opinion has been divided as to how effective he’s been on the right wing but it appears he’s surplus to Alan Pardew’s requirements at the moment.

That may be partly due to Joey Barton’s recent effectiveness in that role and of course Gosling and Guthrie are now back in contention for midfield positions too.

Note that this loan move has not been confirmed by the club yet.

  1. Nico Kranjar coming our way ? Pienaar is going to the spuds and we let Routledge leave , just a thought have heard and read nothing .

  2. Would love Kranjar, Axel, our midfield would be absolutely class with him.
One thing I love about our team atm is for the first time in years we have a number of players that have improved in value and performances since they’ve arrived.
Put us in a lot better stead in the transfer market I think as young players will look at people like Carroll/Tiote/Simpson/Williamson etc and see that we are a great club to come to, rather than a club that is going to ruin your reputation and hinder your improvement

That’s the closest thing I read on twitter, ST. But that isn’t quite “I’m tranferring to Queen’s Park Rangers”, though it could imply that I suppose.

I wouldn’t write off Routledge so easily, Army. I’m not saying you’re wrong about Taraabt, but we know Routledge much better than we know him. Taraabt is also rumoured to be a bit of a problem in the dressing room.

  7. I hope we are looking to bring in another right winger because if not then the loan move for Routledge is stupid for example what happens if god forbid Barton gets an injury or suspension who would replace him?

  8. The only person that I can think of that is fit that has played there and was half decent was Nile Ranger. Ryan Taylor, Ben Arfa and Lua Lua all injured. The only other thing might be to swap Gutierrez to right and put Ferguson left because guthrie can’t play there he is a CM.

  9. i wud hav any1 but routledge hes simply not gud enuf lads!! krancjar or swp for me! swp is a headless chicken bt on his day is class !

  10. workyticket ben arfa has had issues with marseille doesnt mean hes gna b a buga at newc! tarrabt is a talent and i wud defo gamble goin 4 him!

Aye, that’s certainly a fair point, Army. I must admit that I was gagging for Ben Arfa. Chris Hughton was manager at the time and he was a very good social worker though. I’m not so sure about Pardew.

  12. Would love to see Krancjar but seems like it’s too good to be likely to happen. Here’s to hoping. If Routledge is moving out on loan, surely we’d have someone lined up to replace him. We need depth in midfield, esp given how many yellows we seem to be picking up and injuries are a constant threat. Though perhaps Ferguson is going to be getting some time on the pitch. Who knows…
