Pardew: “We’ve put a couple of offers in this week”.

He also said that he is searching for a replacement for recently departed winger, Wayne Routledge, who is now on loan at Queen’s Park Rangers. However he also noted that the target will not necessarily be a winger.
Starting with the Routledge situation, Pardew said in an interview:
“We’ve lost Wayne Routledge from the squad so I at least want to replace him. I’m not saying we are going to sign a winger necessarily, but we do want somebody to come in and fill that gap in the squad.”
Perhaps it may have been wiser to have found some kind of replacement before he let the player go if he is seeking a replacement at such a late stage. But Pardew did go on to confirm that he does have offers in for two new players, and is “hopeful” that the club will get something done in the final days of the January transfer window, continuing:
“I’m not anxious. I think this window has been quite normal. Everyone is waiting until the last moment. A lot of the deals are basically done, but people are waiting to see whether they get a better offer at the last minute. We’ve put a couple of offers in this week and we’re hopeful we’ll get something done. The way it’s looking at the moment that probably won’t happen until Monday, and we hope there are no last-minute hitches.”
He concluded on the continuing absence of Andy Carroll with a thigh injury, and how this hasn’t changed his thinking regarding bringing new players in, saying:
“I want to sign players, but I will only do it if the deal is right. I’m not going to be held to ransom. The deal has to be right for the right player. We had the news about Andy Carroll, and he’s still out. We’re going to be sweating on him for Arsenal, so that’s disappointing, but it doesn’t change my thinking in the transfer window.
“Maybe it would have if Shola, Besty, Nile and Peter hadn’t done so well, but we’re not going to be bringing in a panic buy. This won’t change the course of events in the next few days.”
One player that the club will not be bringing in is Aston Villa’s Stephen Ireland, who has been reported many times as being one of Newcastle’s main targets in this window. Villa manager, Gerard Houllier confirmed to reporters that the player will remain at Aston Villa for the forseeable future.
“Alan Pardew……………..has warned that he will not be held to ransom over any potential new signings at the club”
What Pardwho and Fatman have to appreciate is the squad as a whole are expecting additions to their numbers if for no other reason that it shows we are looking to improve. If we show no desire to add quality to this squad then what message does it send to those who are thinking about their future ?
Most players want to play at the top level and for sure they all want to win something. If there’s no ambition shown by the club then players will question why they should stay ?
