Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan in happier times. In his latest Tweets, Newcastle United has given his latest ‘insights’ on his dramatic transfer listing by the club, which I covered in a previous ‘blog. After announcing that he would be making an announcement about his future at the club at 4PM today, he was fashionably late, but eventually tweeted:
“Somewhere in those high echelons of NUFC, they have decided, I am persona non grata.”
“I am on a free but the honour of wearing those B+W stripes, surpasses that”
“One day the board might realise, what the shirt signifies. HONOUR and PRIDE. Thanks for your continued support……….. ”
Earlier today, the club announced on their official website that Barton had been transfer listed and that they had advised the player that he could leave the club on a free transfer. This has been motted for some time since the club had refused to offer Barton an extension on his latest contract, and his agent, Willie McKay announced that: (more…)
Joey Barton - GoodbyeIn one of the most anticipated Tweets in human history, Newcastle United dissident, Joey Barton, has been on his Twitta page again. He once promised on there that he would “I will tell all when the time is right.” Earlier today on his Twitter page, he made a series of Tweets, saying first, somewhat mysteriously:
“I’ve seen this happen, in other people’s lives and now its happening in mine………..”The Smiths…….
Then the mundane:
“Training done for the day, off to buy some books and have a coffee.”
Later he then tweeted:
“I wont be commenting on situation at Newcastle again, as I feel it helps nobody and serves no purpose. Hope u all understand.”
A little respect (just a little bit) Newcastle United have had a trying summer both on and off the pitch but how does that bode for the season ahead?
It’s a fine old kettle of fish isn’t it? This pre-season, that is. We’ve had some poor results on the pitch and the various missives from people like Nolan, Barton and Enrique have done little to enhance things off the pitch.
First up, the friendlies we’ve had. I’m not convinced as to how much of a yardstick for the coming season such games really are, but let’s hope they’re not a particularly accurate one.
One school of thought says friendlies are all about experimentation and that players don’t really get out of third gear for them, but another school of thought says that’s nonsense and that when players are on the pitch they’ll play with all they’ve got for a win.
When my mate – who currently lives in Hong Kong – visits, we traditionally have a ‘friendly’ 4-way competition that involves darts, pool, table football and – bizarrely – tennis. Whereas we might start off with a friendly game of darts, I can tell you that by the time we’re huffing and puffing in the fifth set of a tennis match it’s anything but friendly! (more…)
Time for certain individuals to keep quietSoon after Newcastle United’s 3-2 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road, Midfielder Joey Barton decided to once again share his opinion on the politics at St James’ Park, via his soon to be world famous ‘Twitter’ account.
Not content with sharing his knowledge on actual government politics, how clever he actually is, his GCSE results, or how rubbish American immigration are, Joey had this to say:
“If only we as players could tell the fans exactly how it is, without them above fining us lots of money. There will be a time and a place.
“If it wouldn’t effect team morale and cause unrest within the dressing room, am certain Jose’s comments would be the tip of the iceberg…..
“And again it would be left to those magnificent fans to pick up the remnants of their once great football club.
“If I wanted to leave, I’d just come out and say ‘I want to leave’. Things need addressing as am not prepared to go through a relegation again.” (more…)
Decision timeNewcastle United have been given one week to sign Mevlüt Erdinç before PSG listen to bids from other suitors. Oh, and Joey Barton runs rampant on Twitter.
According to yesterday’s French press Newcastle have one week to tie up a deal to bring Mevlüt Erdinç to Newcastle.
Newcastle’s €7.5m (£6.57m) for the player has been accepted by Paris Saint-Germain and it’s now up to Newcastle to reach agreeable personal terms with Erdinç to complete the transfer. If they cannot manage to do this, Erdinç will be made available to the other clubs interested in him, such as Lille and Rennes.
Erdinç has previously said that he would prefer to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems that Kevin Gameiro and Guillaume Hoarau are already ahead of him in the pecking order of PSG’s strikers and it is thought that PSG – now backed by Arab money – may yet recruit another striker too.
Erdinç in fact began his last game on the right wing for PSG. It’s not the first time he has played there and he can be a versatile player, although it is thought that he much prefers playing up front. If that’s his priority then it will surely be more likely at Newcastle than PSG. (more…)
